While I don't think the immediate and always "witty" reactions are realistic, I understand it's a show, and me and the wife are enjoying it. Not much good stuff is on TV these days, so it's a treat when therei s.

But seriously, some of the plot points can be seen coming from outer space. Sorkin has an odd way of making his dialog vaguely inaccessible to make it sound smart while simultaneously writing the most transparent plot that you can accurately predict the course of the entire show from the first 5 minutes. I still like it, it's just frustrating getting the "big reveal" when you've been pretty sure that's what the last 40 minutes were grinding towards.

This is a pretty fair assessment. The dialog is entertaining and witty but that Jim Don Maggie love triangle couldn't have been more telegraphed. The first episode the MacKenzie character basically says what is going to happen.

I'm not surprised the show was picked up for a second season so fast. It strikes me as an extremely cheap show to put together aside from salaries. In other words it doesn't need to have a massive following to pay for itself, just a decent one. Its a decent show but being so grounded in the real world I don't know where it will go long term, I expect it'll run out of gas pretty quick.

I enjoyed last nights episode (8-13-12 The Blackout Pt.1)

I especially appreciate all the attention that was given to Olivia Munn's ass.

Clearly this show knows whats important.

And I would like to personally thank the producers for giving us a perfectly framed shot of Olivia's ass before the end so we could decide for ourselves.

What a phenomenal episode. Tea Party exposed, Maggie proving to be just as big a douche as Don, and TMI destroyed. God I hope this shows doesn't get cancelled.

BTW, Munn is staying...SWEET!

I love this show.

And so is Terry Crews with another 100 death threats.

Also, how does Sampat get so much fine p*ssy? That Natalie Morales was way hot.

I like the show a lot but it's getting too political.. then again, what news organization doesn't have an agenda..

the show was greenlit for a second season somewhere around the 4th ep i think.

which really doesnt explain the whole sloane don out of left field reveal. they had enough time to at least drop a few scenes in the last 2 eps to lay some groundwork for it.

the whole ep was written as a wrap up hedge for not getting a 2nd season, solomon-nsa and the idiot question girl were ready to tie the ribbon on this thing in case they only got the 1 season. i had recently re-watched the 1st ep and the whole notepad was clearly and unambiguously set up as the "turning point" for macwill way down the line.

given that they are already past halfway in all of 2011's major events, Sorkin better hope there are some real surprises in the 2012 elections or he's going to be out of material and way short on enough distance to make hindsight contemplative.

They mentioned several times in the show that the major turning point of NewsNight 2.0 was that they wanted it to become the source of real and useful information for US voters, so getting political is pretty much a requirement.

I am really liking the show. I'm a fan of Sorkin's work and I'll have to say it's doubtful that in this day and age it can go as long as West Wing (7 seasons), but I'll take whatever I can get. Right now at least I'm guaranteed to get 1 more season of it, so I'll take that.

Great finale episode. I'm glad Sorkin wasn't tempted to end the season
with a shooting (like West Wing)
, especially with the way
that last scene was setup ("a hundred more death threats")
.

He said he's going to stay a year/year and a half behind present day. I think that's pretty easy when they do episodes about the personal stuff with events sort of tossed in around it. Going from event to event would make it move pretty quickly to present day.

not sure what he's going to do now that his surrogate alter ego Olbermann is off the air now. im pretty sure the writing staff for season 1 was raiding the Maddow show for most of their material. given that he's firing the staff and going with all new for season 2, there may be a different flavor.

[for those that dont know, Sorkin writes all the episodes and has the writing staff do research and minor suggestions]

The fact that it is only ten episodes a season is a manageable amount for Sorkin to do the whole thing pretty much by himself.

What really helps a Sorkin show is how good writing really makes the actors look good.
Olivia Munn is going to be able to land some movie roles based on her performance in this. Other actors will want to get on the show as well.

He claims that he didn't fire the staff and that there were only a few changes. ( http://www.deadline.com/2012/08/aaron-sorkin-denies-firing-newsroom-writing-staff/ )

It is pretty obviously that he is mashing up Olbermann and Maddow though. She's really embraced talking about voter ID laws and generally pointing out the tea party stupidity. Olbermann, of course, is a big dick so that fits right in with MacAvoy. Sorkin cannot resist being political with these types of topics. They explained in the show that there aren't two sides to every issue. Often times one side is "right", and the other is batshit crazy. Some times a journalist should take a stand. Voter ID laws are designed to disenfranchise democratic voters; we shouldn't play chicken with the debt ceiling; etc. Issues like that do have a right side.

I would like to have sex with Olivia Munn.
Who wouldn't? I know gay guys who want to have sex with her...lol
Olivia is so yummy.
why does olivia munn always have the constipated look on her face?

She's hawt. I could forgive this imaginary "constipated look" if it existed.

The show ended on a very good note. Loved the dialogue even if it is "stylized" and no one talks in witty snappy dialogue all the time in a newsroom.
