You shoulda come West to the mountains. I won't leave (and drive down off the mountains) during the Summer. Too d@mn hot for me.
I've been to Dallas, I didn't think it much better than other low-lying areas in the SE, as far as heat & humidity goes. But I do think Houston was worse.

IVe never heard a foreigner say "Yea NOrth Carolina is the first place I want to go to in the States
I don't know that's it's many's first place, I'd guess Disney World, NYC or SoCal. But we get a bunch, mostly middle age and those with families. In fact, a lot live here in my little resort town (French, British, German, Persian etc). Our "sister city" is in Germany.
The
Biltmore House ( a few mile away) is a huge foreign & domestic tourism spot. It's the biggest "American Castle", built by the Vanderbiult Family. You'd be surprised how women love it.
Again, the Blue Ridge Park is the most visited national park in the US. You get lots of foreigners crusing through it too. If their gonna camp around, they'll likely end up here in the Pisgah National Forest etc. Ton's of waterfalls and natural trout fishing streams etc. Also, this is a top spot for competitive/professional Kayaking, some of the USA's best most difficult runs.
The Cherokee Indian reservation is here (Western NC), and has a Harrah's casino.
Lot of movies made here (Last of the Mohican's etc)
There are a lot of "elite" destinations and old & very famous (among a certain very wealthy set) resorts here. Prolly from Vanderbiult days.
The ("royal") German family that owns a much of BMW has a home here. (The BMW plant in Greenville is about 40 minutes away down off the mountains). Otherwise, historically, a lot Euro royalty used to vacation here, and had old grand homes that still exist in restored state. So did many polititions from the early 1900's.
A lot of celebrities have houses here, e.g., Burt Reynolds & Lonny Anderson, Andy McDowell. Bunch of pro golfers (Tom Fazio's office is in town here, he's a famous golf course designer), and Arnold Palmer was here last month, overseeing his new golf course. Bunch of other rich people like George Steinbrenner. The guy who owns Circuit City etc.
Prolly a lot more going on here than you'd think.
