Hi everyone,
It's been a while since I've posted a message, but I wanted to start this thread to discuss the benefits and drawbacks of all the various VOIP companies out there. In this day and age, it almost just doesn't make sense to have a land line anymore. Thanks!

Packet8 has been unreliable so I cancelled it and got broadvoice. On general it's been great except once in a while. I also had some trouble dialing numbers. They also don't have all their features available yet, but I don't use them so I don't care. Their phone support is good.

I haven't used Voicepulse personally, but I only hear good things about it.

I think my friend has "Vonage", not sure tho. He pays $20 or $30 and get ones 'hardware' phone line and one 'software' phone line. The hardware line uses a real telephone, while the software line uses a headset and dialing program on the computer. It's pretty dang cool.

I use Cox for my broadband connection. It goes out now and then, and it usually goes out intermittantly every night for awhile, just for a few minutes at a time around midnight or later. Anyone know if that would affect being able to make calls? I don't know how calls are routed through the system...I'd imagine I wouldn't be able to make calls while the connection was down, but then, I don't know how it works.

i've had packet8 or about a year now.
At first it was a bit flaky, but a firmware update ( from 1.0 to 1.234 or something) and setting the DTA310 unit as a static IP on my LAN instead of DHCP has made it rock solid.

I use it for all my toll calls, and if i could get my home # and area code transferred to it i'd dump my landline in a heartbeat.
