Haha, yeah, i remember that. In general I have pretty bad luck with electronics that are made for viewing. I've had clouding/flashlights, dead pixels, stuck pixels, fucked up coating on EVERYTHING i have purchased. I've had dead and stuck pixels and clouding on apple products and samsung products (mainly what my last few purchases have been). I'm getting sick of worrying and returning stuff. It pisses me off when I see someone post a picture of a perfect screen, but what can you do, lol. :|

Anyone having trouble with AT&T LTE in Boston? I'm in an area right now that should have super strong coverage and the iPad will only connect to HSDPA+ 4G.

The 16gb wifi was in stock at Burlington (MA) Mall at lunchtime. Getting closer to raising enough dough for it.

Here's something I don't understand...when people say that this new iPad isn't enough of an improvement, what more exactly could they have done? Besides a better processor, of course. I guess a better FaceTime camera.

My screen is definitely a lot more yellow on the new iPad than my iPad 2. Apple has done this a few times on their iPhones so I imagine I'll get used to is once I stop comparing the two devices (and get rid of my iPad 2 ).

The screen resolution though; instantly noticeable (obviously). I like it so far.

The user at other forum said this:
mlwang posted:
Based on my experience in dealing with LCD products, Apple may say this is an acceptable specs, as they testing spec is at 50% (for battery life), and they may say no user will set it at 75% in the dark without degrading the viewing experience.
That is not entirely true. The iPads with backlight bleeding issue exists even at low brightness. That's the key!!! Mine showed bleeding real bad at 23% brightness!!!! that's when I took it outside in the porch at night with light turned off. And mine wasn't considered nowhere near severe, either. It's actually pretty descent one.

Don't get in the belief that this will only exist at 100% brightness that is just flat out wrong..... I actually encourage people to test at low brightness tests, like 50% and 25% in dark, dark room. Maybe even down to 15% brightness!!

And cheez, actually, the backlight bleeding should only be visible at very high brightness in dark room. You won't be able to see it at below 30% brightness.
No, it was very visible, actually, terrible at around 23% brightness (that's the setting I use for normal viewing) when I took it to the bathroom with lights turned off. It looked equally as bad when i took it outside in the porch with the light turned off. It looked discusting. D:

If I lowered down to 5% or 1% I couldn't really see it... as the screen looked it it turned off.

If you see bleed at 23%, it's actually very severe. I have never seen any that shows bleed at lower than 40%. The lighter ones barely show anything at 80%.

My mom's white iPad 2 is actually also almost perfect. It shows some slight edge at 100% in complete darkness.

I don't think mine was considered anywhere near severe, because the bleed wasn't noticeable in a lightly lit room, at 23% brightness. There were users reported with highly noticeable light bleeds / blotches in fairly BRIGHT room! like all lights turned on. There are pics of these on the internet. Now that's called severe, not mine. What I'm trying to get at is, iPads behave different from one device to another, with this bleeding behavior...

Not that I'm saying this is a huge mega problem. Light level of bleeds / blotches, I can deal with. Just would be nice to see all of them with zero bleed at any brightness levels. Of course, I still wouldn't get it cause it's not for me... but that's beside the point.

I'd love to see those reports if you can find them, because I'm sure I have seen at least over 50 different iPad 2 from stores, from friends, and from exchanging mine 3 times. It's no where near that severe.

I'm actually extremely OCD about that kind of issue, too (just like I'm OCD about audio quality) so if there is hard evidence that it does happen, I'd love to know about it.

Anyway, iPad 3 is here. Still waiting for it to sync, so I'll check backlight bleeding later.

^ Oh congrats on the iPad 3.
Are you going to test for light bleed tonight? Please test professionally! (Oh I know you do, you the end user)

And guys, and girls, pleaes be honest about what you see in the screen at complete darkness. I know that some people lie or don't want to admit that they are getting light bleeds.

Hey TheSTU, did you get your iPad 3 yet?????? Where's yours. PLEASE TAKE ME OFF YOUR IGNORE LIST!!

I have minimal bleeding in a couple of the corners on my iPad 3 but so far it's not as annoying as the yellowish tint the screen seems to have. Really hope I get used to it or it's going back. Either that or I have to drive an hour to the nearest Apple store.

LTE ended up working just fine, maybe there were some delayed activation things...

I also don't see any LCD bleed or yellowing at max brightness.

To be honest, I don't know. That said, I got my iPad 3 this morning and since I sold my iPad 2 on Monday have been without since then. Other than the screen being sharper, I can't tell a bit of difference while using it. Some stuff might be negligibly faster, icons are blurrier (until updates come out), but restoring from iCloud backup has this iPad feeling exactly the same.

I really wanted the upgraded screen, since its almost like looking at a printed page, but I doubt I'll use the camera. I did get the VZW 4G LTE version but haven't tried that yet.

Physically (apart from the screen) I did notice the increase in thickness, which I like honestly, and I think they changed the home button from my iPhone 4. Feels mushier. I'm fine with that too.

Overall I feel like its worth upgrading from an iPad 1 (or none at all) but if you're happy with iPad 2 you could skip it. Just don't compare the screens. I did also get an Apple TV, and AirPlay Mirroring is pretty fricking sweet! Just can't wait to JB it so I can have it access remote HDDs without iTunes being open.

Also, for what its worth, I have a corner of my screen where it isn't bonded correctly or something and has pretty bad backlight bleed. I'll take it back in a week or so when I have time.

From what I've seen before, 'yellow tint' usually happens because people aren't used to warmer color palettes. You could probably trade for a set w/ cooler colors, but this will come at the expense of colors that look deader overall.

This is a bit odd. My iPad is a bit yellow vs my white 4S. I might take it up to the apple store to compare.

Okay, so for some brief impressions with mine:

1) Good news: ZERO light bleeding even at 100% in pitch black (I turned off all lights and so on). Lucky me.
2) Real Racing 2 HD looks absolutely stunning. Infinity Blade II also looks just as stunning, but it seems to be lacking higher-res textures.
3) This screen is ridiculous. I must admit that I didn't feel the "impact" at first, but then when I started to look for fine details in images and websites, that's when I start noticing the difference in resolution.
4) Contrast ratio seems a lot higher than on my MacBook. Black level is amazing on this thing.
5) My screen is a slight red tint instead of the yellow tint. It's not drastically different compared to my phone, and it's closer to my MacBook than to my phone.

So iPad 3 owners who had iPad 2's, all I need is one answer:

is an extra $150 (my cost to upgrade iPad 2 -> iPad 3) for the screen worth it?
