yeah, nothin

Did you RTFM? (For the Wii, that is?)

You need to pair the remote and console together (red connect button under the battery cover and beside the SD card slot, respectively) before the Wii will recognize any new remotes.

No you dont. I have never done that and use any of my 3 remotes to play any of the sports games. Holding down 1 & 2 buttons together for about 15 seconds adds the remotes just fine.

asked this earlier but has anyone been able to find component cables in stores?

my nintendo.com order I guess is not backordered. its so nice of them not to email me to tell me that but rather I had to log on to find out. yet I notice they are still taking orders too.

considering that it tells you when you order that the cables won't be available until mid december, why would you expect a email saying it was backordered? they already told you up front.

Have you even looked at the site?

they've showed what's quoted since 11/29. Before that it was NOT avaliable to purchase.since people rushed to buy it. back then it said they wouldn't have any till mid december. If they didn't have any now maybe they shouldn't be taking orders.

As of Wednesday, November 29, 2006, we will be resuming shipments of all back orders for the Wii Component Video Cable.

The Wii Component Video Cable allows you to hook your Wii console system to a high-definition TV (HDTV) or enhanced-definition TV (EDTV) to view 480p progressive output. 480p progressive output displays at a higher resolution than standard 480i resolution. Click here for more information on hooking up your Wii using the Component Video Cables.

Please note that your TV must be a high-definition TV (HDTV) or enhanced-definition TV (EDTV) to view 480p output. You will also be required to change your Wii settings from Standard TV (480i) to EDTV/HDTV to view 480p. Click here for details on changing your Wii console system settings or check page 44 in your Wii console system 'Channels & Settings' manual.

You cannot see Wii progressive display output when the Wii console system is hooked to a TV using any other kind of cable.

NOTE: This component video cable is for the Wii and will not work with any other system. In addition, the Nintendo GameCube Component Video Cable will not work with the Wii.

Due to limited supplies, Wii Component Video Cables orders are limited to one per household. Any duplicate orders will be canceled without notification

yeah i looked at the site. it said that they wouldn't be available until mid december when i ordered mine. that was a few days ago.

Well this weeks VC games kinda suck. In other news, there are rumors of 'something' getting released for free on 12/25 or right before. Some people are saying it might be Super Mario Brothers.

Every Monday starting Dec. 4, Nintendo will add classic games to the popular new Wii? video game console?s Wii Shop Channel. Four games will be added at 9 a.m. Pacific time on Dec. 4. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week?s new games are:

Donkey Kong Jr.? (NES®, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points): Based on the popular arcade game, Donkey Kong Jr. is the sequel to the immensely successful Donkey Kong®. Players play as Donkey Kong?s son, Junior, and rescue his dad, who has been kidnapped and imprisoned in a cage by Mario?. Players use their jumping and climbing abilities to clamber up vines and chains, gather vital fruit and keys, and open the cage to free their father. Make sure to avoid the pesky birds, nasty electric sparks and creepy chompers. Four different worlds filled with numerous climbing and jumping puzzles await in this timeless classic.

Victory Run? (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, 600 Wii Points): Victory Run is a rally racing game, made up of eight different stages set in different countries from Paris to Dakar. Players can race across highways, deserts, savannahs and coastlines. In order to advance to the next stage, players must dodge traffic and cross the finish line within the time limit. Players can upgrade their race car with such parts as tires, gears, engines, suspensions and brakes. Driving on rough courses and hitting obstacles will cause damage to individual parts, so making repairs is critical. Choosing the right setup of parts may be the difference between winning and not finishing the race at all. So go out there and prove to the world that you have what it takes to take raise the gold cup in Victory Run!

Columns? (Sega Genesis, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points): Players test their hand at the ancient Phoenician game of Columns. Multicolored gems drop from the top of the screen into a pit. It is up to players to quickly arrange the order of the jewels into lines of three or more as they fall. If gems pile up and reach the top, the game is over.

Ristar? (Sega Genesis, 1 player, 800 Wii Points): Greedy, an evil space pirate, has corrupted the kings of the Valdi System?s seven planets and enslaved the people who live there. The plea for a hero is answered by Ristar, who uses his amazing extendable arms and courage to save Valdi from Greedy.

I paired mine following the manual's procedure, but if that works, that's a lot easier.

Gamestop wants $19 or $17 for a used one. too much for used imo. don't know of any pawn shops

When I took my wiimote over to my friends house I had a lot of trouble getting his Wii to sync my wiimote. The red buttons did nothing for us, though we didn't really RTFM or give it a lot of time to decide what to do. The only thing that worked was the in game menu for resyncing wiimotes, we had to resync all wiimotes while my wiimote was blinking and then it recognized. Exiting the game unsynced my wiimote and we had to do it all over again. but other then that the wiimote worked normally after it synced.

well, considering my remotes are already paired and work in wii sports w/o issue... I don't believe that's it.

someone mentioned having to hold down 1+2 for 15 seconds... that seems a bit non-intuitive.. but i'll try it.

I would have never kept my PS2 following your logic. The PS2 had like one good game (SSX) the entire first YEAR. The 360 was also pretty slow the first year but has now picked up considerably. You're ditching a brand new system just a couple of weeks after launch.

My plan is thus: I will sell for retail now, that way 6 months - 1 year down the line if the Wii has gotten my interest back, I can buy one. If not, then my wallet will have never have known the difference and I won't have a little white box sitting on my desk to remind me. If the thing had depreciated in value already then it would be a different story.

I've got a deal possibly pending with nutdotnet right now (If you're reading this, check your PM), but keep me in mind when you "sell for retail." I want a system for personal use.

Amazon has them for $27.95 free shipping and no tax (at least for me).

Woo hoo, just beat Trauma Center, the last couple mission were fairly tough the the second to last was probably tougher than the last.

Not sure what to take on next, my GC controller are still on their way so i cant play Pikmin 2 and RE4 and Ultimate Alliance are still in the mail. Im holding off on Zelda until I get some component cables. Looks like more Wii Sports for me!

How to beat the GUILT on Amy(this doc's sis)? I killed the first part but the 2nd part is really hard, I can't keep track on all the things that's happening. When should I draw the star?

Yay... my Wii console from walmart.com arrived today (and, for anyone wondering, all the games shipped separately with their own invoices, and I have had ZERO problem returning them and getting refunded).

My component cables from nintendo arrived today as well!!!! Yay again!!

I guess I know what I'm doing tonight!!!

I will be returning 2 classic controllers to target since I bought some gamecube controllers. If anyone is interested and purchasing them at retail plus shipping, PM me.

With very few virtual console titles, and the fishing game being a flop, there is no longer any hope on the horizon for me and my Wii. I'll probably just buy a wiimote and nunchuk for playing at my friends house. Goodbye Nintendo. Goodbye Wii.

Heh, nothing like judging the longevity of a system based on having it for a few days at launch.

Although you've been determined not to like it from the start, so you're fufilled your own prophecy.

I don't get it, would you rather a person make the judgment without ever having owned the system? Or do you want them to use thier psychic/hiro-nakamura powers to bend space and time to predict the future of a thing? Ive made a good effort haven't I? Is my assessment off? also its been 2 weeks since launch.

Not owning and judging it would be like judging a book by its cover. Owning it for 2 weeks and getting rid of it is like judging a 500 page book by its first 5 pages.

It's all up to you, but it seems silly to get rid of a console 2 weeks after launch, because there are not enough good games. There's not enough games, period!

By that same thought process, every console ever released would be garbage. Obviously theres nothing stopping you from getting another wii later down the line, but it's not going to be any cheaper for a long time, nor is it going to depreciate significantly either. 1 year from now you could probably still sell the system for near retail (thats ebay for ya), or you could sell it now, and pay retail and tax+shipping all over again. How will you know it's gotten better unless you have one, anyway?

You were doing it the hard, wrong way. Just press home button, go to wii remote settings, click reconnect, and hold 1+2 on all wiimotes in the order you want them. This way it won't permanently screw with the permanent syncs of either remote.

The d-pad on the gamecube is completely unacceptable to use for most VC games, but the GC pad makes a very good n64 replacement. I'd keep the CC controllers, but you're going to make some people very happy by selling them. I didnt finally get one until just today.

Also, a question for anyone with the classic controller and a NES game:
Are the NES A and B buttons mapped to A and B on the classic controller, or B and Y?

None of that is for certain. Whats wrong with selling it now and buying it again later? Its certain that I can sell it now for retail or even profit, and certain that I'll be able to buy it again later from a store for retail. Retail is not going to go up, but it is certain to go down. Why would I invest 300+ dollars on something that I'm not going to use?

And I will know when it gets better through online reviews, offline reviews, and possibly playing the games at my friends house.

Nothing wrong with it per se, it just seems silly. A lot more fun Wii and VC games are coming very soon, and there are a good deal of fun launch titles. Wii sports, zelda, monkey ball, rayman and trauma center are all very well worth the money. Elebits very soon, wario ware and Wii play in a month.

If you can make a profit, you might as well go for it, but I wouldnt expect supply to outstrip demand until late january at the very earliest.

Thats exactly what I was describing...

I should have been more clear...I was just talking about using the red sync button....thats just screwing with the Wiimotes head.

I think I answered my own question by plugging in my classic controller and firing up mario 64. It's mapped to A and B. Thats retarded. It's so much harder press A and B at the same time with a single thumb than it is to press Y and B, which is why just every super nintendo game every created took that into account. Even super mario all stars used Y and B for B and A.

They have GOT to update this and let us remap default buttons for the systems, or at least this single option...should be an easy fix, at least.

oh that hurts... a lot.

also, I figured it out for super monkey ball.. whoever said you have to do the connection in the home menu, thanks.

that game is also very disappointing. A lot of the mini games could be a lot better if they just did a best out of three. Some games just starting it and you are already done after two seconds.

controls are also way too sensitive in some games.

there also should have been separate save slots for single player. we'll see how it pans out with people tomorrow.. or else I'll probably take it ebay or sell it cheap here.

or possibly trade w/ an excitetruck owner

Trying to decide on Carbon vs Ultimate Alliance.

Anyone played either of these? Are places actively renting out Wii games yet ?

Monkey Ball is a bit disapointing. They went for quantity over quality. More than half of the minigames are trash, and its cumbersome to keep going in and out of the menu to select games. The few good ones, namely the brilliance that is monkey target, got the short end of the stick.

Funny thing though - monkey battle has the best FPS controls out of any FPS released so far. They got the bounding box just right.

They really need to make monkey target it's own game already.

And yeah, remap buttons pronto. Im seriously not even going to consider buying any more NES or N64 games until then. Our thumbs were not meant to press those two buttons at the same time, and for old school difficult NES games, thats an absolute necessity. It's also pretty silly to have to press the little Z-buttons at the top for the Z button on N64 games, when the Y and X buttons go completely unmapped.
