What sense does this even attempt to make? If you already had the Kinect, how does them dropping it effect anything? Also, it was never mandatory (well, mandatory to buy).
When Sony put out their Move for the PS3 I had great hopes for it. It was better tech than the Wii but Sony didn't back it like how the Wii had its tech as the central piece of its hardware. Since it was optional then there was not enough support for the tech so support dried up quickly. I did enjoy playing the Sports games that came with the bundle and Tumble was a lot of fun.
By separating the camera from the console, you are now creating an issue where not every console will have the Kinect so now there is less incentive to add stuff for the Kinect in games. So that moment for me felt like being back to the PS Move.
I did enjoy playing Killer Instinct, Forza and I will miss out on Halo. The reason that I bought into the XOne was for the kinect in the hope that it would offer something to differentiate itself like the Wii U has for me. Not having that same support kills it for me. It might not for you and that is fine.
I am quite happy so far playing with the PS4 and the WiiU.
