I don't find the fan overly loud but I also normally have a 5.1 system cranked up or a headset on.

AC4 is very different from previous games. It could be a pirate simulation. Huge map to sail on and explore.

Mine is not loud either. I could hear it at times when nothing but the ps4 and tv is on when I used to play bf4. Definitely check out infamous and last of us. I'm getting the last of us for ps4 even though I finished it on ps3. I would like to play it again anyway. Plus the ps4 edition includes the dlc extra mission that came out a couple months back on ps3.

Best buy only gives you 10 bucks for the ps3 version as a trade in so I will just sell mine on eBay or something to get some money back for the ps4 edition.

My fan got really loud when it was in an enclosed space due to lack of ventilation. Now I keep it upright on the TV console and it hardly ever makes a noise.

Mine is laying flat next to the TV, open space (on top a table-like furniture). I wonder if standing it up like a tower will help...

I hear a lot of hate on Killzone, if it's that badly mentioned then it's probably not that good of a game, kind of like that last Wolfenstein game. Apparently FIFA 14 has mixed hate and love, some say it was the worst FIFA release to date from EA.

I bought Killzone on sale but got bored of it pretty quickly. Like everyone else said, there's not a lot in it to grab your attention and it starts to fall into generic military shooter territory.

There's not really a lot of games coming out over the next year that are really grabbing me either. Perils of being an early adopter. Everything I'm really excited about is on the Wii U of all things.

As for the fan issue, my PS4 is definitely a little louder than my PS3 Slim. I keep both side by side on the same shelf. However, I will say that the Slim has a louder BD drive. It tends to vibrate quite a bit when the disc spins up. I put some beefier rubber pads underneath to quiet it down.

If I had to guess, your PS4 is probably busted. The system is either too hot (poor seating on the heatsink?) or it isn't able to manage the fan properly, which causes it to spin at full speed all the time.

I've actually noticed a weird thing about mine... I told it to go into sleep mode last night after playing some games, and when I went downstairs a bit later, I kept hearing this very faint yet high-pitched beeping noise. I kept looking around, but I couldn't figure out what it was for the longest time. I noticed that my receiver was still on, and when I turned it off, the noise was gone. That seemed strange, but when I turned that off, I noticed that my PS4 didn't have its usual amber glow. It makes me think the PS4 might've been the cause of the beeping. This isn't the first time that I've found my PS4 turned off like that, but every other time, I assumed it was just a fluctuation in power from bad weather that shut it (and the XBOX One) off.

Is it possible you could take a video with your phone in a quiet area so we can see if we can hear it? Is it audible when the ps4 is idle or only when playing games?

If you bought it at a store take it back and ask for an exchange.

It seems quieter on the side... I played some more Contrast and while I did hear the fan, it wasn't as loud or annoying as before. And it was speeding up and down now and then. I'll try to make a video and post it to YT.

Problem is, my right leg's busted so I'm stuck in bed the next 9 weeks or so. And I bought the console online, so taking it back is a no-go. I'd need to start an RMA process...

Anyway, let me see if I can make a recording and I'll post it later.

Thanks!

Mine is standing next to my PC and I don't even notice the fan, funny because my HTPC has 1 fan (CPU) and I still hear it.

Jeez 9 weeks!? I'd go crazy after the second week.

All of my HTPCs are pretty much dead silent. In fact, one of them is absolutely silent given it has no fans... and the 3.5" HDD that was in there didn't like that fact either. So, now there's no more hard drive vibration noise either!

Torn meniscus here, pending surgery, given estimated 6+ weeks recovery time.

I need to figure out how to get my PC setup in my bed so I can Wildstar myself insane. Otherwise, I'll be forced to use one of these consoles. Haha.

Good luck with the leg, and I'd personally try to get that unit replaced. Initial launch PS4's had varying issues (mine suffered BLOD).

Whenever I do use my PS4 or Xbone, "loud" is not a descriptor I would use. Normally they are silent (With the Xbone being quieter).

Just thought I'd post a friendly reminder that I noticed this morning but had forgotten. Many PSN+ games offered for Free are Cross Buy. Meaning you can buy the game for PS3 or Vita and you get it for both platforms. Doki Doki Universe is also free on PS4 if you redeem the Vita or PS3 giveaway. On the Playstation App or the PSN website you can see all the PSN+ free games and what platforms it is available on. You can have it download to your console remotely. It may be a good idea to check here vs on your console to see if you can get any other titles this way as Doki Doki Universe doesn't show up on the PSN+ page on your PS4.

Strider and TowerFall Ascension are this month's freebies for PS4. While Doki-Doki Universe is a cross buy title for Vita/PS3/PS4, Muramasa Rebirth is available for Vita, and Vessel is available for PS3 along with Dead Space 3.

My ps4 was really loud laying down, but I bought some felt pads to put under the four corners to balance out since I got a wobbly ps4, and that seemed to help the noise a bunch.

They're all wobbly. Still not sure why, but Sony used a 3-point rubber feet lay out instead of four.

I, too, put some extra rubber feet. Mine actually raise the console a little higher than the original feet.

I can say with certainty that my PS4 is definitely not wobbly.

Mine is on the floor under my little tv table but I have it sitting flat on a book. I haven't noticed it being wobbly either. It doesn't have large rubber feet it seems universally flat all through out.

It does have the rubber strips but the system sits perfectly flat, and when I press on any corner or side the only movement is the compression of the rubber strip as it absorbs the pressure of me pushing down on the top, but it only moves a few mm and returns to it's original position immediately after. It's firmly planted to the shelf I sit it on. I am lead to believe that anyone with a wobbly system has a defective unit, or the surface they are using isn't perfectly flat to begin with. I even checked it just now with a level and when I press on it, it doesn't go out of level nearly enough for there to be any adverse effects to the BD-Rom drive or HDD. With the amount of pressure I need to apply to make it move, it will not wobble during normal usage.

Maybe you guys wouldn't consider it "wobbly" but no other console I've owned or have sitting out with the PS4 (its about 10ish) have this odd tri-point design Sony went with.

Perhaps they changed something, but the two (and all the pics I've seen of launch units) have that 3-point design versus a 4-point which every other console has.

If you press on the left side of the console where it has no rubber feet, it will raise the opposite corner ever so slightly, and then it will dip back. This is "wobbling" to a lesser degree. It isn't stable/flat in the slightest. EDIT: Had to load the article in cache since it's blocked at work. If you load a disc, the console will shift, it is very minute (almost a non-issue) but again, I don't get why they went with this design. For starters, the disc drive AND HDD are on the left side of the console, when the laser motor starts to spin and the laser shifts reading, the console will clearly "move." It's something I noticed in my two units and I only know this because of my BLOD issue with my first unit I went through exhausting trouble shooting steps. Again - it isn't bad, almost a non-issue, but it is present and for anyone not using a stable surface, it could be a bigger issue.

This isn't a bad thing, just an odd design choice considering how robust the damn thing is built. Like removing one rubber foot from the BOM made any difference.

Yep, mine's wobbly too. I ended up putting some felt pads underneath. Now she sits nice and level. Just got them at the dollar store.

That isn't wobble. Read the article I linked from Kotaku closely. The console tilts, yes tilts, only when you push on it. The system doesn't wobble or tilt unless you put unreasonable force on one side. That's not design flaw, that's not an "issue", it's in your head and no it does not move when I put a disk in, at all. If yours does as you claim, then the plastic is warped or something because it does not move normally. The vibrations of the BB-Rom drive should not be enough to make the console physically wobble. Vibrate? Yes...even my PC vibrates a bit when I put a disk in.

I did read the article, so you should familiarize yourself with the word "wobble".

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/wobble

1a : to move or proceed with an irregular rocking or staggering motion or unsteadily and clumsily from side to side
b : tremble, quaver
2: waver, vacillate

I never said it was a design flaw, I specifically said it was a queer design choice.

And it isn't "unreasonable force". You tap it down, it wobbles, you hit the table (if isn't full solid wood weighing on it's own hundreds of pounds - I use this exaggeration to imply a solid table/desk/cabinet/etc) it will wobble.

I made sure to say extensively - this isn't bad, or at all a big issue, but is is without a doubt a damn odd design choice considering how robust the rest of the design is.

Again, this is not "unreasonable force":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYLxeRvMkmc

Even the video from the Kotaku article you linked:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1cZjmx7qfM

Again, that is wobbling.

EDIT: Do a simple test, put it on a surface that isn't solid, then bump into the surface (ie a table) and watch/listen to your PS4 shift in movement - it wobbles.

EDIT #2:
I wonder if this is what the other user reported experiencing:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9KtSHOCmaE

When I got my second unit and verified that it worked, first thing I did was put 4 new little rubbery feet. My console is rather silent. But this video demonstrates what kind of issues someone who doesn't have a solid surface can experience.

You are describing vibrations, not wobble. My PC viobrates too when I put in a DVD but I don't say it wobbles.

When you push down on the console that is unreasonable force. You aren't supposed to push on it at all, you are not supposed to stack stuff on it etc either. What you see on those videos is tilting the console by purposely pushing on one side. You have to physically apply force to one side and it's not just a little bit, you have to press pretty forcefully to make it move. I have tried it.

Wobble is this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okmYTgOaGw4

Precisely, but if you push down with force on the glossy side it will tilt down on that end. You have to apply physical force that is way beyond normal conditions.

People on the internet make it seem like it's moving all over the place all the time like a jumping bean or something.

EDIT: Do a simple test, put it on a surface that isn't solid, then bump into the surface (ie a table) and watch/listen to your PS4 shift in movement - it wobbles.

I have a small TV tray that isn't 100% solid, I set the PS4 on it. I wiggled the tray and the PS4 didn't have any noises from smacking the surface.

That video, to me, is the BD-Rom drive vibrating while spinning and reading the disk. I do not see the system wobble nor does that sound remotely like a plastic on wood sound at all.
