My 1st gen PS3 60GB was loud ass hell and did indeed run hot but it wasn't as bad as my launch edition 360 that sounded like a blower. Had to blast the sound system up to drown the noise out but now i have a PS3 Slim which is very quiet barely hear it at all and my 360 slim is quiet too but you can hear the disc spinning but its not bad.

The launch 360's fans were pretty small. Think they were only 60mm if that. Plus it got hot so they had to run at full tilt all the time. Bigger fans are quieter because they don't have to turn as fast to move the same amount of air.

The Phat PS3 has a big blower fan in the bottom with a laptop style heatpipe. The 360 used a traditional heatsink with two small ducted fans. RROD was mainly caused by inadequate ventilation. Where as the YLOD I suspect was caused by lack of ventilation at the top of the PS3's case, where the power supply is.

RRoD was also due to crappy solder as well I believe. That, and people usually ended up putting everything in a AV cabinet with no ventilation anyway.

They're even worse than you remember... 40mm! D:

If I remember correctly, RRoD was an issue of low-thermal solder + bad thermals + motherboard stress. The whole point of the x-clamp mod is to avoid any warping of the motherboard, which should avoid having the chip not seat properly. Part of the x-clamp process is running the system without a fan until it overheats, and then you leave it like that for a minute or so in an attempt to reflow the solder while not under stress.

Sony Computer Entertainment President of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida has confirmed the PlayStation Vita can only be used as a PlayStation 4 controller for games "specifically programmed" to utilize it.

The clarification came via Yoshida's Twitter account, when a user asked if PlayStation 4's portable buddy could be used as a secondary controller. "In a normal sense, no," responded Yoshida. "Unless a game is specifically programmed to allow such use of PS Vita."

While not every PS4 game will take advantage of the Vita in this way, Sony is still promising that virtually every PlayStation 4 game will be playable on the handheld itself via Remote Play.

Am I the only one that thinks console integration with portable systems is an utterly worthless feature? They serve two different purposes and don't need to be integrated.

I don't plan on using it. I don't have time enough to play ps let alone a hand held.

But it is a feature that will increase development time and likely create problems with just the console game! Isn't it great?!?

I see it that way too, it's pretty dumb. All the crap about tablets/phones/handhelds being connected as additional input devices is just idiotic. I thought that was Nintendo's big mistake with WiiU. Instead of making slightly better base hardware (graphics/ram/etc), they shoved a tablet in there which really makes for a questionable design decision, and ties them to difficulties in price cutting.

With the Vita/Phone/etc controller support, it's just extra PITA for devs and customers alike, it won't make for better games, just more hassles.

Vita remote play is integrated natively into the PS4. Devs don't need to optimize for it, it will work out of the box. If they want to optimize the use of the Vita it is up to them.

I know CD Projekt RED is optimizing Vita remoteplay functionality for the Witcher 3.

The Vita is dead anyways, I was considering buying one but the new Pokemon game looks so good.

That isn't the same as a developer allowing the vita to function as a controller for the game when played omnthe ps4.

Rumor: Potential PS4 release date: Oct. 21st
Source: Some guy on the internet.

http://www.reddit.com/r/PS4/comments/1kabae/possible_ps4_release_date_leak/

"Rumor: Our internal product release schedule from head office dropped yesterday and on Oct 21st an unnamed Sony console will be launched. Fyi all console revisions like the ps360 slims and Wii Mini were listed as ps360 & wii mini. Previously the wiiu, 3ds and vita were also only listed as Nintendo/Sony Console in the product name column.

Disclaimer: I just work at a very large retailer, managing the electronics sales force and nothing more. I have nothing to do with purchasing, nation wide merchandising or shipping. I am not trying to play this off as I have connections at Sony, or I am some sort of insider. It's that just yesterday we received a product release schedule from our head office and I thought this is OT itt. These schedules btw, are for internal use only, designed to allow us time to create our instore merch plans. If the launch date for a product is unknown, it's simply marked TBA. The only time a date is ever included is when we have received confirmation of said date from the product company."

Possibly that is the date they are getting their shipments? I know places generally get items in early and aren't allowed to sell them until a certain time. We got Halo 3 in at Gamestop a week before we were allowed to display or sell it. I know a few people who get Jordans from retailers early because they got the hookup.

Would be cool if it's true. Which means I have to start saving money towards the games I want to buy. Most likely I won't be able to get all of them at launch since they won't all come out In October.

Would be rather funny if the PS4 released a few weeks before any of the games. >_>

Yeah most games are suppose to be out in November. I had a list from gamestop and was told that those in the list would be out at launch but I lost the damn thing. If all the games I want are out at launch then it's about time I blow the dust off a credit card and use it for at least 3 games.

When I worked at TRU, we got the PS2 a week before the street date. The Xbox and Gamecube also came in a week prior. At gamestop we got the 360 a few days before it was to be available. We got them on friday to be ready for tuesday.

I wouldn't be surprised if it will be available the first week of November. Stores can get them early just not allowed to sell them until street date.

I think the rumors were Nov 14th, so 2 weeks is a bit more than usual, but who knows. They might have moved the date up because MS could announce their release sooner. They obviously have retail units (albeit ~20 as of a couple days ago).

Hopefully we will finally find this stuff out at Gamescom. I mean, I am surprised we don't have a firm release date right now. Cause I know a lot of people buying both don't want to be blasted with two consoles in the same week unknowingly lol.

Personally I'd like at least a week to feel my way around the systems and tinker with the settings and browse around the menus etc. before the next one drops.

They could be doing the apple thing. Wait until a week or two then tell you it's releasing on a certain day lol
