The one thing that a lot of people tend to miss is that there's usually a staunch difference in the amount of tax that you pay via Use Tax vs. standard Sales Tax. When you buy something from a local store, sales tax typically includes state + local + municipal, which can be as high as 10%. However, Use Tax is typically just state tax. If I were to buy a X1 or PS4 from the local Best Buy, I would pay 8% sales tax; however, if I buy it from Amazon and pay my use tax like a good little citizen, I only pay 4%. The Marketplace Fairness Act should be like the latter.

I'm actually curious whether people are being unfairly charged sales tax. It just doesn't make sense why having a presence in the state means you should be charged full sales tax. I should only be charged local if there's a presence in my county, and I should only be charged municipal if there's a presence in my municipal area (city).

That's what they say. Probably true.

Microsoft really hurt themselves with the DRM thing. Back when the rumours starting swirling early this year, it was clear it wasn't going to go over well. Then at the February PS4 event, Sony strongly hinted that the PS4 would be DRM free. By this point, Microsoft should have quietly eliminated the restrictions, then denied they ever existed. Instead, Sony went with it and ran, and Microsoft flip flopped too late to really win over the fence sitters who have no brand loyalty.

I don't think it will hurt the Xbox One in the long run, but it will slow early adoption. It's the mirror image of the last generation. The PS3 was accused of underemphasis on gaming, and being too expensive. Microsoft is going to have to build a better roster of exclusive franchises. Halo and early DLC releases alone aren't going to do it this time.

Do you mean the ps3 didn't have good games at launch? Or that games were harder to develop for the ps3 because of the emulation layer ?

I do agree it was expensive and mostly because blu ray was expensive back then, first time it was being introduced for it's time.

It was a media system and a big part of the early criticism was shoving Blu-ray in there. It really was heavily home theatre centric at the start.

They shoved a Blu-Ray player in the PS3 like they shoved a DVD player in the PS2 like they shoved a CD player in the PS1. I've never heard that as an "underemphasis on gaming" nor would I agree with such a statement.

Proposed only and not passed, means this doesn't apply so I technically missed nothing.

Thus far amazon charges the state sales tax rate only for states in which it has a warehouse. Soon in my state of Florida they will have a warehouse in Orlando, thus I will have to pay the 6% state sales tax rate.

I still use it mainly for blu-ray, and now Youtube, Netflix and Amazon streaming. Its the main reason I am buying a PS4...hopefully a better, quieter version of what I have now. Eventually I will be able to play newer Hot Shot Golf and Naughty Dog games, but I'm really getting it for video entertainment purposes.

Is that hot shot golf that good? You probably need the camera for that. My ps3 now is used to stream movies and media from Netflix, my pc and so on. I have a bunch of games I won't have time to finish.

Its a port, but its not bad, especially for $20. I look at it as DLC for Out of Bounds.

You can use a controller with it just fine. Not even sure how you would do spin with a Move controller. Its a lot of fun. You can probably get HSG Out of Bounds used for cheap. I actually imported the Japanese version and beat it. Then beat the US version when that was released. World Invitational is a little tedious with the last course design combined with the Crown Challenges, but for $20 you will get your money's worth.

Hopefully when they do a PS4 version they will learn how to color coordinate the characters outfit pieces. I think I spend just as much time trying to make them look good as I do golf.

i just don't like the engine in world invitational as much as the engine in out of bounds. they are similar but also very different. a lot more randomness in the WI engine than OOB. it also just does not have the charm of OOB to me. like the music just isn't even on the same level. and the advanced swing in OOB is better than the advanced swing in WI. i haven't played WI in like 2 weeks already and don't have the itch to play it to be honest. i used to play OOB for hours on end.

infact, i may hit up OOB this weekend lol. also, OOB stayed fairly high priced for a long time, i'm not really sure why though.

and HSG really IS that good. much better than tiger woods golf imo. it's just a lot more fun and has a better engine than me, and the super shots make it much more fun imo. i used to LOVE tiger woods back in like 2004 - 2005, but then it got meh to me big time. also wasn't a fan of people averaging like -27 online.

That game was great, I just don't know what happened it fell off the earth. I remember the first one on dreamcast, then shenmue 2 on Xbox. I was eagerly waiting each year but nothing.

Well, you can't deny that a large number of sales were solely due to the blu ray player. I wouldn't say that the PS3 didn't emphasize gaming, but the blu ray was a HUGE value add. Many folks purchased it for that very reason.

That game was great, I just don't know what happened it fell off the earth. I remember the first one on dreamcast, then shenmue 2 on Xbox. I was eagerly waiting each year but nothing.

Shenmue 1 and 2 cost $70,000,000 to make and had disappointing sales. It was said that in order to turn a profit every dreamcast owner in the world would have had to purchase the game. Obviously that's unrealistic. Yu Suzuki decided to drop the game because it wasn't selling and cost more than it was worth. I loved them but I understand it's not really an action game. Kind of a life simulator with some fighting and some minor rpg stuff. I really enjoyed the story and characters. It was the first game to have every character in the game voiced not just text. I am a huge Shenmue fan, originally this was to be based off the Virtua Fighter games with the main character being Akira. It was in development for the Saturn before it was shown as a Dreamcast title. It really pushed the edge of the capabilities of the hardware at the time. There's been rumors going around for a while about possible Shenmue 3. The latest one revolves around Yu Suzuki having a talk with Mark Cerney and this idea that Cerney will get funding for the project on PS4. This is unfounded and based only on a picture of them together that appeared on a Twitter feed a while back. Fans want so badly to see the story finished, and find out what Lan Di is after. It's not at all dissimilar to Half Life 2 fans wanting to find out what happens next after a cliffhanger.

Ironically it was the game that defined what an open world game could be. So many activities, different things during night time and lots of people to interact with. Shenmue 2 had over 700 different characters all voiced. Way before GTA 3 and others grew the popularity of open world games. A game way ahead of it's time and a very underappreciated game. Sega did so many things on the cutting edge of gaming, I really miss their style. They have't been the same in years.

Even the music...just brings it all back listening to this almost brings a tear to my eye.

Pretty much this. I don't think Sega's and Yu Suzuki's heart is in it anymore. Not at the cost that it would require.

Yeah it's just sad. Listening to the music brought back memories. My cousin and I stayed up all night one time during Xmas vacation because we wanted to finish the first game on dreamcast.

If they ever did make a third they would also need to re-release the first and second. I had no idea it cost nearly 700k to make that game. But it's not hard to see now for what type of game it was back then.

I spent so much time just wondering around in Shenmue 2. I don't think I even finished it, I don't remember.

I wish some other company would pick it up and do something but that's highly unlikely. I can't think of another game that compared to it. Maybe the last of us with the story and how it pulls you in.

I already have a launch day PS4 on order from Amazon. I'm struggling however to find any games that interest me. Hopefully, I can just download and play some Sony games; I never had a PS2 or PS3, and there were plenty of games I missed.

there is some "collections" game they have shown, but i'm not sure if it will be available at launch. if you have missed ps3, then that game will hold your attention for months to be honest. it has a TON of AAA games in it.

Supposedly that collection of 20 or more ps3 games available as a download from the store and I've heard it's suppose to be 60 bucks. The pic we saw long time ago mentioned it would be available at launch. Which makes sense because of the few launch titles.

Has anyone else seen this article? The title is very poorly thought out and borderline troll bait lol. Still I wonder how this may affect the future. They do mention that this will take time to develop for and optimize.

And then they said he wasn't a gaming God... This is a man who singly handedly ported Doom to iOS after his engineers said they couldn't get it to work.

However, if you read further they investigate how the hUMA will help games if they can do it with the new consoles.

For the record Carmack said they were close, not the same.
