Same here I also was in the closed beta. It's nice if you have time to play in the alotted rental period. I'm also on a 50mb connection via Ethernet adapters and I had no issues.

Lucky me...I still have a PS3 to play the games they are offering lol

The prices are for lack of a better word, insane. You can buy used copies on disk for less than they want to stream some of the titles.

Any of you guys have experience with headsets other than the Gold one? I'm looking to order one in the next day or two, looking for recommendations. I've read different "reviews" but they're all over the board.

I use a Sennheiser PC360 with an adapter which is now branded as the Game Zero. Basically the same thing. I like it a lot. I don't like fake surround at all and prefer stereo for a headset as the clarity is better to me. It has great sound clarity even for music too. I use it daily after it starts to get late and I cannot use my sound system.

The only drawback for the PS4 is there's no option in the PS4's software to adjust volume priority for chat vs game audio. On the XB1 there is a setting where I can set it to 50/50 or adjust the chat volume up so I can hear people over the game. There are two solutions, which isn't ideal. One is to adjust the volume of the game down inside the game's audio options. The other is to set the device options by holding down the PS button on your controller and set only the chat audio to output to headphones and then run a splitter to your receiver and use that for the game audio to the headset. Then you can adjust the volume of the headphones on the PS4 to max and adjust game audio down via your AVR volume control. Neither is really ideal, best way would to have a slider to adjust the chat/game audio balance like the XB1 has.

Crikey PlayStation Now is expensive. Lol at Sony for claiming EA Access was a bad deal for PS fans. Definitely needs a subscription service. If they can keep pricing in line with something like GameFly.

Fortunately I've still got my PS3.

Yea who has time to rent for only a day and it isn't even cheap. Gamefly used to be like $9 a month at one point and you kept the disc as long as you needed and returned it when you were done. I don't know their pricing now but I'm not going to use ps now either. I probably also would not subscribe to any other additional services since I usually just buy the games I want.

A lot of the PS3 games on there are pretty cheap to buy used anyway. I looked up MGS4 and GameStop only wants $10 for it now. So you get to keep the game indefinitely, and play it at the highest visual fidelity with no lag, for only $2 than it costs to rent for the week.

That really is the issue with the pricing structure. $7.99 for the week wouldn't be so bad if these games were new releases. That's comparable to what the brick and mortar stores were charging before they all shut down a couple years ago. But it's too much for old titles.

Game Access, which is the Canadian version of GameFly, charges $18/mo if you just want to take out one game at a time. I think GameFly is the same now. I think that would be pretty fair for PS Now.

$18 a month is kind of a lot but if you could keep it one at a time until you were done I guess some people would use it.

Personally I only wanted backwards compatibility to play ps3 games I already have which I never managed to finish. But once a new console comes out those games don't get used much anyway and trade in values are near nothing.

I agree. They want like $2.99-$6.99 for a 4 hour rental. That's insane...paying for a demo at that point. For some games 4 hours isn't even past the prologue. Take Metal Gear Solid 4 for example. Four hours won't get you past the first major codec conversation lol. It needs to come down to $2.99 for a day and go from there IMO. Some games can be beaten by a determined person with all time dedicated to the game, in one day. Or offer me a monthly subscription and let me have any game I want for a week at a time. If I select another game, lock me out of the one I had previously. I'd be ok with that once we get rolling with PS1 and PS2 games. I may even subscribe at that point just to play a bit of an old game I remember but don't own. The "pay for each game rental" idea only works if you give us adequate time for reasonable cost, and the prices aren't reasonable. 30 days for $14.99? Pfft...buy the disk for $20 and own it forever.

Extreme example. Darksiders 2 is a $4.99 4 hour rental and 90 days is $29.99. You can buy the disk from Gamestop for $19.99. They wonder why we don't embrace digital? Simple, Darksiders 2 on PSN costs $39.99 still, that's 2x the cost for a digital copy vs buying it on disk. Plus what's worse is the streaming version of the game not only looks and runs worse, it doesn't support any of the DLC or add-on packs.

Less extreme example, dead or alive 5 is $19.99 on PSN to own. 90 day rental is $14.99. If you know you will play it longer than 3 months, buy the game for $5 more.

I'm sorry Sony, love ya but I'm not bending over for ya.

I was in the closed beta before they charged you to play. It worked great for me but I have to 50Mb connection connected with a LAN cable.

Nice... now that it's in open beta, we can talk about it. I had just about the same experience as you. Although, I thought the experience was pretty poor on the PS3. It wasn't so much an issue with the streaming, but the interface -- it's so darn slow! Sony really needs to realize that the PS3 is slow as molasses when it comes to anything but the XMB and to stop making stuff so grandiose! The PS Store takes 20+ seconds to load and PS Now is even worse!

Now, on the PS4, it works great. I played that zombie game... I think it was Kill All Zombies or something like that, and I was able to use navigate through hordes of zombies coming at me from all directions without any issues. That just tells me that I wasn't really suffering from any poor lag that made the twitchy, twin-stick shooter game unplayable.

There was one difference though... back then, it was all free to play. There's no way in hell I'd pay their prices to play those old games! D:

They want us to go digital but no way with those prices. Any time a new system is out you can find those games in the bargain bin at game stop or Wal-Mart randomly placed on shelves for less money. I wish I could get something for the 10-12 ps3 games I have left but sadly they aren't worth much. I used to have a lot of ps3 games but gave most of them to my brother.

WTF... turned on my PS4, selected my account and I'm waiting... and waiting... can't move the selection frame and it seems it's doing something but nothing is happening. It's not hanging cause I can see stuff moving on the screen...

I tried shutting down, no dice. Same results....

Don't tell me my PS4 died or something !!!

EDIT: OK, restarted twice and it managed to login. It still took a while and the UI was a bit choppy for a few seconds. Ehhhh....

I don't know what they were thinking regarding the 4-hour and, to a lesser extent, 90 day rentals. I'm at a loss as to how that 4-hour duration even made it to beta.

Cool, I appreciate the info

I'm going to try out the Gold headset with the profile for TLOU, hopefully it sounds good. I already have a wired stereo headset that works through my receiver, I just don't like the wires.

I got an email saying they will change prices of some 4 hour rentals to $1.99. Still no point for me, who wants to pay for a demo anyway.

He makes sense saying you should not rent for 4hrs. Then says the prices for 7 days are only available for some games. While other games are only available for 90? I don't know but it seems he disagrees with some things but not all of it.

No rental price should ever exceed the market price of a game. The only way the math works with the high prices is if they are assuming that external retail/used markets don't exist. I wonder if this isn't a precursor to something more dramatic down the road.
