I am going to get the game, but I don't have it yet. I will be dissapointed if the game doesn't live up to my expectations, not because Id and Raven can't make a game like Half-Life2. But because they can't seem to acknowledge what they've done right in the past. We need a competitive FPS now more than ever and yet no one can make one. Everywhere I turn I see FPS games with stupid vehicles and massive outdoor environments. And yea, those are fun, but they aren't competitive, they aren't the proving grounds of a 1 on 1 battle. Why can't Id accept that this is what they did best and do it again. Why is that so hard? Why does every environment have to be logical, squad based, gloomy, slow moving, depressing. Why can't I have a fast paced game with illogical environments, rediculous enemies, and perfect deathmatch.

All I can say is, I didn't even bother with Quake 4 because I figured it be like another cheaply thought out game, similar to Quake 3 and after Doom 3. It proved me that ID can't do SP or FPS games anymore.

In a FPS game, you have to incorperate SP coop, esp from ID.
I rather be playing Doom, Doom2, Quake 1 and Quake 2 than Doom 3 and Quake 4.
Sure graphic isn't as great but the gamplay is far better where its actually worth the time. You would think they would learn but they are just like any greedy and well known business now. They start off good to give a good impression then if all goes well... they take it for granted and abuse... its a simple concept in business. Rainbow Six 3 is even better then Quake 3 imo~ Its sad how big company has to depend on hackers/modders to create conversions then buy them out like CS.

Oh well, for those who aren't very patient and just impulsive. go for Q4 but for those who really truly enjoy gaming or FPS I should say.... don't bother unless you get it for free

But i would wait to hear a response that they have it in stock at least but saying they cannot sell it. Then i would know they currently hold the game and then maybe ill drive to the store and take my chances from there.

Quake wars is not Quake 4. Quake wars is mission based, good guys versus bad guts.

OK, so I went out and got it at Best Buy... played multiplayer for about an hour, and here I am. So, after telling you guys that... I can also tell you that I feel like I have mixed feelings after having such high hopes. I can tell you what I think:

it feels like a faster Doom III, so that means that it has the look of Doom 3(which were awesome by the way) and the speed of a not so fast Quake 3 and it definitely doesn't seem as fast as UT2004, IMO. I'm mostly referring to the Multiplayer, I haven't even played the SP yet. Weapons are good for the most part... I even thought the Railgun was fine. One thing that really bugs me is the lack of double jump. The speed is nice but it seems like it could be faster... maybe that's just me. The interface is very much an improvement, with the ability to record stats and stuff.

The problem is that it is all stuff that looks so familiar, and that seems to get under my skin. I mean, it's all stuff that we've recently seen in Doom 3 with hints of our beloved Quake 3. So far, it seems as though I have mixed feelings. It just doesn't seem as engaging as other Mplayer games, I find it hard to picture my heart pounding in the heat of battle. The maps also seem kind of unoriginal, but that is something that may get corrected with time, along with a couple of patches to take care of other "stuff."

However, I don't regret picking it up... cuz I know there will be a good community base and I know I will enjoy playing it, I just don't think I'll become as addicted as I'd like to be. But don't forget, this is just my own opinion... should I have picked up F.E.A.R. instead? I dunno... but I did have a dream about Q4 which would probably explain why I got it first. Anyway, I'm one of those guys who is glad they got it just cuz it's Quake 4.

If you'd like to find out for yourself I suggest that you get the game yourself

Hey swamyg1

Could you give the SP a try and let us know what you think?

I'm one of the seemingly few who like the SP in Q2. Would be very interested if this game has the graphics of D3 combined with the SP of Q2.

I did that last year with Doom3. I checked online... EB had it listed as in stock, called em... "yep, it's here..." Get there... "Oh, sorry, those are the pre-sale boxes..."

Sorry, but these are all the reasons I love Steam... Preloaded HL2 a few weeks before it came out, unlocked the files the day it was released, and started playing right away. I don't understand wny more companies haven't adopted this type of content delivery system.... I don't need a box... Just gimme the damn game.

FEAR shipped to retail before its release date. Quake IV shipped yesterday. The earliest most places will have it is this afternoon, if they're quick about getting deliveries put out on the shelf.

All I care about is the MP- Quake4 looks real good in that dept.

Quake 4 MP is very weak. All the reviews said they focused too much in the SP department and the MP seems to have been ignored for the most part.

iD is losing their magic touch... let me correct that, they lost it when they released Doom 3.

The same could be said for Q1 and Q2. They focused on the single player and just tacked on the multiplayer after. In fact, most of the MP maps were just reworked SP maps, but MP was simple and it just worked.

I don't think most game reviewers are even qualified to review something like MP Quake. They just see that it only has the basic multiplayer mode (dm, team dm, ctf) so they give it a bad review, even though that is exactly what it's supposed to do.

I opted to go with Quake 4 as my first choive over FEAR, in spite of the glorious reviews for FEAR. If you check out the "official" FEAR thread, you'll see that they've already released a patch... I'm sure the game is awesome and I'm definitely gonna get it, but I will let them work out the bugs first.

Well I'm a big Quake fan. My girlfriend at the time almost broke up with me because of Quake (I was all of 19). She eventually did break up with me but I got my revenge by getting her new boyfriend into computers and addicted to Quake 3 :-D.

What I want from Quake 4:

- Great graphics and soud
- Hard hitting weapons
- Lots of Strogg ass to whip
- Cool sci-fi environments
- Instant Spawn Multiplayer not based on this boring thing called reality

From what I can tell, Q4 delivers on all of this. If I wanted all of that other stuff that other FPSes did, I would play them. As it turns out, I want what Quake does, and it looks like I'm goona get it.

Been playing Q4 SP for the last half hour.. FRIGGIN SWEEET! This game kicks ass! I love having a squad with me! I'm glad you can attatch the flash light to some guns and also not have to worry about the flash light losing battery power.

Thanks supafly!

Maybe we'll get some FPS feedback soon too. FEAR looks like too much of system hog for it's graphics IMHO. Hope Q4 runs better.

Getting a steady 60 fps here. Doesn't seem to go above that and rarely drops below 50 fps. Looks like it's locked at 60 fps.

Settings/Specs: 7800GTX, 1 GB (other 1 GB is on RMA), 4400+ X2 Processor, 1280x1024, 4x AA.

The graphics are excellent and the game is silky smooth. Doesn't feel like a Quake game though.

Quick caps: 1 and 2

I don't know what FPS I'm getting (yet) but I can say it is smooth as silk on High settings in 1600x1200 w/ 4x AA. It doesn't look to have a built in benchmark util and I don't have FRAPS installed right now.

This game is far more enjoyable than Doom 3 was... when I played Doom 3, I felt like I just wanted to hurry up and get to the next level.. didn't care if I cheated or not. Q4 feels more immersive, like you really are thrown into the war - and the objectives (so far atleast) make sense for the continuation of the story.
