This year seemed to have better sales than last as far as my wishlist was concerned. I grabbed a few games, but nothing like previous sales.

A very restrained Steam Winter Sale this year.

I picked up only Transistor and Ashes of Malmouth (Grim Dawn DLC).

No. That might be a mistake. I figured I'd play through Ashes and by the time I finish, Forgotten Gods and/or Crucible will be on sale again.

To be honest, I'm starting to get a bit burnt out. I'm on my Ultimate difficulty playthrough, Act 2. I hit the level cap at 85. Getting the level cap removed was my primary motivator for getting Ashes.

But this probably has a lot to do with the holidays.....I did nothing but drink wine, play my guitar, and play Grim Dawn. A pretty damn good holiday!

I'll slow down a bit on Grim Dawn (I'll start Transistor soon as an alternative).

But then again......I spent several minutes in the shower this morning contemplating switching to a different weapon (a new legendary axe I picked up....remember a few months ago when I was so excited about getting a Legendary? Well now I have a ton of them and most don't fit my build).

This new weapon has vitality damage so I'd have to switch around some of my skills and maybe devotions. But I could end up more powerful!

I'm starting to realize....this is the beauty of Grim Dawn.

I think I even commented about how you'll be rolling in new legendary gear before you know it. That's one of the best aspects about GD is how much gear suits different builds and given how fun the game is, it never really feels like a grind starting a new character. Forgotten Gods adds a ton of stuff to an already massive game, not to mention this is made far easier by being able to start new characters right off the bat in Elite or Ultimate. I think FG also adds the transfer tab in your stash so you can move legendaries between characters without the use of a third-party utility, but that may have been added normally or with AoM. I can't honestly remember. The new area, however, I couldn't really get into. Maybe it's because I live in the desert, but I loathe playing through desert sections in all my ARPGs (Champions or Norrath, Titan Quest, Diablo 2, PoE, etc.). Doesn't matter what game, I just hate the desert areas, but Crate listened to the fans when making FG and strayed far away from how they handled the desert areas in Titan Quest back in the day. No more massive hour-long walks with nothing to see but the same dunes over and over again.

Yes, the transfer stash is part of the base game now....just an extra tab on the smugglers screen at Devil's Crossing, Homestead, and Fort Ikon.

The great thing about Grim Dawn is that there always seems to be something to work towards/look forward to. I'm now Nemesis status with Aetherials, Undead, and Ctholonians (spelled wrong). Looking forward to my first random encounter with a nemesis boss.

I remember my first encounter with a Nemesis boss. That particular boss has been nerfed since that encounter, but given how OP he was coupled with my horrible resists and gear in Ultimate led to me just exploding before I even saw what hit me. I remember walking forward towards a group of enemies, then a ton of AoE effects went off on top of my character and then I respawned.

I remember walking forward towards a group of enemies, then a ton of AoE effects went off on top of my character and then I respawned.

Well.....that's basically what happened to me yesterday. I ran into my first Nemesis boss (Benn'Jhar). I was excited when I saw a skull on the map moving towards me rapidly. Before I could even get a wendigo totem placed, boom - I was respawning. Next couple of tries, I lasted long enough to see that he was hitting me with chaos attacks.

Check the stats, sure enough Chaos resistance was only 57%. Craft some components, switch some gear around and got my chaos resistance up to 83%. Several deaths later, I was getting frustrated. Ultimately, it took a 45 minute kiting session to wear him down to death. My hand hurt by the end.

But it felt good to kill him (and get the achievement).
