If they remove installing to the HDD and playing without the disc, I will be in here bitching. I didn't give a shit about the requirements because I could have this feature, but I might lose it because a bunch of whiners are complaining they can't sell their games...

Can't sell your groceries either, but nobody boycotts Publix... (best terrible analogy ever right?)

Goes both ways, you're whining about swapping discs.

If Microsoft reverses course, it's a good thing for everyone. Yet, the same lot of you will still be in here bitching about something.

yeah i'm sure the focus of the ms hatred will be on the kinect now since there won't be much else. maybe the $100 extra price tag too, which is tied into the kinect though.

i too am wondering how the hell they are going to do the installation to hdd thing to not have to play with discs. the only guess i have right now is that EVERY game will have a DL version, and those are the only ones you can install to the hdd without a need for a disc. hopefully we soon will know!

i just hope this doesn't fuck up the killer instinct launch title for some odd reason lol, since apparently that game was going to come preloaded on the x1. that is what was said on one of the late night shows a few nights ago.

Yeah, and I'm glad consumers actually won this time.

This still doesn't change my mind. I'm still going with a PS4 at launch. It just opens up the possibility of owning an Xbox in the future.

If anything, this has to prove that MS actually listens to their fans and wants to make them happy. It will suck to see the full installs go away, because I liked the idea of not needing the disc around to jump to a new game if my friends got online.

download the game from the marketplace and i don't see why you couldn't do this. this SHOULDNT change the fact that they stated that EVERY game will be available on the marketplace.

Yep, I am. That is the single reason I modded my 360. That was a feature I was looking forward to and they are removing it because a bunch of troglodytes cry about change.

LOL so now this is a bad thing to get consumer rights?

Just buy the game from Xbox Live and download it digital.

So this pretty much confirms that the cloud power was bullshit marketing for DRM....lol.

Some people were actually defending that shit, "You can't have this game without the power of the cloud!!!"

I have 5 mbps download speed in town, so getting a 40 gb game could take me a couple days. Plus, I like the idea of trading a game that I am completely done with, so the system was something I was excited about. With that being said, this is good news and will make me keep my day one purchase and I will probably just skip the ps4 for a while.

There is no change happening. MS announced change and is now not doing it.

I guess I will have to download every game from Xbox Live now. =( I wonder how that will work. If I will have to wait for it to complete or will I be able to download and play at the same time after a certain point like in D3?

Last week at E3, the excitement, creativity and future of our industry was on display for a global audience.

For us, the future comes in the form of Xbox One, a system designed to be the best place to play games this year and for many years to come. As is our heritage with Xbox, we designed a system that could take full advantage of advances in technology in order to deliver a breakthrough in game play and entertainment. We imagined a new set of benefits such as easier roaming, family sharing, and new ways to try and buy games. We believe in the benefits of a connected, digital future.

Since unveiling our plans for Xbox One, my team and I have heard directly from many of you, read your comments and listened to your feedback. I would like to take the opportunity today to thank you for your assistance in helping us to reshape the future of Xbox One.

You told us how much you loved the flexibility you have today with games delivered on disc. The ability to lend, share, and resell these games at your discretion is of incredible importance to you. Also important to you is the freedom to play offline, for any length of time, anywhere in the world.

So, today I am announcing the following changes to Xbox One and how you can play, share, lend, and resell your games exactly as you do today on Xbox 360. Here is what that means:

An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.

Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today – There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360.

In addition to buying a disc from a retailer, you can also download games from Xbox Live on day of release. If you choose to download your games, you will be able to play them offline just like you do today. Xbox One games will be playable on any Xbox One console -- there will be no regional restrictions.

These changes will impact some of the scenarios we previously announced for Xbox One. The sharing of games will work as it does today, you will simply share the disc. Downloaded titles cannot be shared or resold. Also, similar to today, playing disc based games will require that the disc be in the tray.

We appreciate your passion, support and willingness to challenge the assumptions of digital licensing and connectivity. While we believe that the majority of people will play games online and access the cloud for both games and entertainment, we will give consumers the choice of both physical and digital content. We have listened and we have heard loud and clear from your feedback that you want the best of both worlds.

Thank you again for your candid feedback. Our team remains committed to listening, taking feedback and delivering a great product for you later this year.
Boom!

Developers will still have the option to enforce activation via XBL and PSN so while this answers the whole MS enforcement question, at the end of the day it might not mean anything. If developers/publishers still persue activation on both the PS4 and XB1 that is. Anyone who thinks that companies like EA and Ubisoft aren't going to still push forward with DRM themselves are out of touch with how the industry is progressing. Maybe not on release day, but in the coming years it's all but certain. MS created a situation where they benefitted financially from the sale of used games, but ultimately they aren't the ones who really want used game sales completely gone....that's the developers.

Basically if MS reverses their whole position it puts the PS4 and XB1 on a level field, but it doesn't actually change anything in the long run for either console. That said, this is good news for those who want to buy/sell used games and for those with iffy internet connections so I think they should consider it a victory. Also, I give props to MS for listening to the masses. Obviously they are only doing it for economic reasons and not out of the kindness of their hearts, but its still a hard thing to completely reverse a core software policy that has guided development. Who knows how much money they spent trying to come up with that digital strategy.

Now if they would just remove that Kinect requirement I'd be a day one buyer

You can still buy the game from Live if you don't want to mess with discs.
