That is just so stupid though. When CoD4 came out, the leveling system was revolutionary. Normally that mechanic was only present in RPGs. It was fun leveling up your guns to unlock new attachments, leveling up your character to get access to new weapons and equipment, etc. But it completely defeats the purpose if there is now a system that will grind for you while you are gone. Why even bother playing the game at that point? Isn't gaming supposed to be about playing a game?
i agree with you that cod is a terrible example of that, but i kind of see his point. one mobile game that does this is nemo's reef. when you plant different corals and harvest them and stuff, it can take hours to harvest them. some things take 72 hours. but you don't have to have the game open for 72 hours straight. while you are not playing and your phone is off of the game, it's still harvesting it. so if you harvest something that takes 72 hours to harvest, then close the game and open it a week later, that item has been harvested.
so in that sense i could see something like that being kind of neat.
