according to some things i've been reading today, don mattrick is part of the reason that rare started to develop a buncha crap games, specifically kinect stuff. and that guy on twitter is apparently an ex-rare employee.

EDIT:

quick google search on his name + rare...

Rare is sadly a shadow of its former self. It doesn't even get to work on Killer Instinct anymore.

MS is stating her was "fired" as per a scheduled exec shuffle, nothing related to the Xbox One launch / announcements at all. They might have timed this shuffle to coincide with the announcement just in case something goes "wrong".

I highly doubt that. Everything I have read said it was a suprise, and how many high level execs already have a contract with another company the day that the are fired. He had this lined up or has been working on leaving the company for a bit.

That is what I said? I had a typo and meant "nothing related to the Xbox One..." This was scheduled well in advance, and could have been scheduled around the time of the Xbox One announcement, just to hedge their bets.

But, just like in VC&G, whenever Jen-Hsun Huang sells stock all the AMD fanboys chime in on how it is proof nvidia is failing or doing bad despite the fact that high level executives have to schedule sale of stock like a year in advance to avoid insider trading.

Whatever the reasons internally, I think it was for the best with MS and the XBone. The guy is a certified douchebag. MS can now focus on healing relations with customers and not get distracted by his previous comments and focus on making and selling a good product.

i just played killer instinct at evo. game is going to be so awesome.

i only played 3 matches and played each character each round.

jago felt pretty familiar.

saberwulf felt like a mashers dream come true.

glacius i was not a fan of. not a fan of his new design in general either. just feels and looks like a totally different character. doesn't even have his fireball that bounces across the screen. and the ice puddle uppercut is totally different.

also, i'm nto a fan of the stock te sticks with the square gate and loose joysticks, so i was having trouble with some moves in general too.

i'll post some pics and vids when i get back from my trip though. paid $10 to get in and was there for like 45 minutes or so. watched them play on the big screen for a bit then got in line to play and had to leave after playing 3 matches (which was the limit) cause i gotta go eat for my wifes birthday!

EDIT:

here is a match with a 90 hit glacius ultra. this guy was apparently on like a 30 game streak.

I saw some Killer Instinct thing on the schedule for Sunday; is that where they're announcing the next character?

Yeah one of the first things I did with my stick was double up a seimitsu spring with the stock sanwa spring for increased tension. I kept the square gate because I can find corners easier but I haven't played KI in so long I dunno if the square gate will be a hinderance or not. I suppose until I get a chance to try it I won't know.

Thinking about it a bit I may wait for eightarc to come out with a multiconsole stick so I don't have to do any of the work.

What if I don't want the same character I've been using? I don't know that I'd automatically want it to select Fullgore if I want to try using Jago.

Interesting, but it's an instant "leave this feature off" for me.

It sounds more like it would remember your favorite characters, not just one. I pictured it putting your most used characters at the top of the selection screen or something.

The problem I have with that, is isn't that the whole effing point of the unique gamer IDs? It should be able to do stuff like that just based on you logging in. Plus, what if you're wearing a hat or one day you wear glasses?

Yeah, I took it to mean it would select your char as in highlight it by default but not actually choose it, that would be very annoying.

If your friend logs in and you jump in the game to challenge, maybe it can recognise your favs and set it up for you. No more "hold on dude I gotta go to the options and set my buttons". I can also see it putting the character list in order from most played to least played. That could work for me. I thought about it a bit this morning and if it works properly then it may be cool to have that.

That is the point of unique gamer IDs (or gamertags in the Xbox world). The Kinect will recognize you and automatically switch to your gamertag and your settings/favorites. It's easier than having to log in or switch your profile each time. It sees you holding the P1 controller, for example, and switches to your info for player 1. Of course, you then run into the question of whether not you'll have to register your face with each new X1 console you use, or if that data will travel with your gamertag, requiring just a password login at each new console you use.

It's a neat concept. Not earth-shattering new or life changing but neat nonetheless. If you insist on still logging in and setting your stuff manually, I'm sure that's an option as well.

Considering you can turn off all the Kinect features, there has to be the option of the current system of selecting which profile to sign in to.

I am wondering how well the facial recognition software used is though. I know the software DMVs tried to use to determine if you already had a license on file (it is extremely easy to obtain a fake ID but getting someone else's birth certificate and getting an ID with your picture and their information), but it was fooled if the person smiled. I sure hope we have come a lot farther, but I don't know.

The automatic ID is nice if you have multiple people that regularly use the same console.
