Best buy doesn't carry a variety of items. TVs I have used Amazon before but that is one thing I would look into a brick and mortar store. Does best buy price match amazon for movies? Even recently their movies were more expensive (you're talking $20 on amazon and $30 at BB).

I download all my games. I foresee BB being closed down.
Lol...best buy isn't going to close down because you don't buy games on disk.

Even if the switch to all digital were to occur, what would stop Best Buy from selling codes along with all their other electronics? Hell, it would be extremely convenient if I could buy a USB drive with the game on it (perhaps, sign up for a service and receive an official game USB thing that has some kind of authentication and go into a BestBuy with a "digital game kiosk" and plug it in) along with a code to activate it? That would alleviate all data cap issues people suffer from, and with a one time activation type code, the data itself isn't worth much. Similar to how other software is handled.

That's actually something I've been suggesting should happen long-term for a while. Stores need a digital distribution server and USB 3.0 flash drives to sell games through, as the digital transition occurs. It would allow stores to shrink, either lowering rental costs, or allowing them to rent to in-store space to other companies (like how Best Buy has Apple, Samsung, and Microsoft sections already).

It should happen someday, because it would decrease costs, increasing profits, and be a great option for those who want to go all-digital but are on DSL or something.

If my butt is going to a store, I'd prefer to get the physical media instead of downloading the rights to a game. At least that way I could either lend it out or trade it in. Not sure what the benefit is of using an USB drive.

Why? I have to pay tax and shipping. With best buy I only pay tax and they will match Amazon's price. No reason to use amazon anymore unless it is something best buy doesn't carry or doesn't have.

I like amazon for certain things but there is no advantage for me to shop there for movies, games, or TVs.

Don't say stuff like that around here or other tech forums.

Amazon is a cult and their membership is pretty vast among nerds.

I never thought Prime was a good deal but argue this with any of their apostles and you will soon realize that it is a religion of its own.

Everything is going all digital eventually. Even if you get a physical disc in the future, it will require a license to use (similar to how software on PC works, for the most part). The benefit to having a USB type model that we were discussing is for people who either have very slow connections or data caps. Downloading a 40GB game with you only get 250GB a month is a huge chunk of your usage right away. And, the model still works for B&M stores, as they get people in the door and likely get a cut from the USB kiosk.

The idea of used games are going the way of used software. Sure, it sucks for people who actually use it, but that ain't much you can do about it.

Depending on your usage, Amazon Prime can be a good deal. I regularly buy single items off Amazon. The free shipping alone adds up to more than the $80 I pay (soon to be $100...) each year, as I don't generally qualify for the free shipping due to only ordering a single item. Sure, I could hold off and buy everything at once, but I prefer not to. Add in the streaming movies (and now music and free Kindle ebooks) and it starts to climb in value.

The usb issue can help those with data caps but it's still annoying in my opinion to have only a digital copy.

Soon when they go all digital games I'll probably stop buying any games unless it's for pc. I've never bought digital copies unless they were only the free titles of psn plus.

Just got a redeemable code to join the EA Access beta. I'm undecided as to whether or not I will make use of it. I wanted it for Madden 25, but I'm now probably going to buy it from TD/BB for $20, then do the $35 trade-in at Best Buy for Madden 15, making having Madden 25 rather pointless, and I don't care about Battlefield or FIFA, while Peggle is $12 to keep.

Prime was a good deal, when it was $79/yr and no tax on purchases. Now the free two day air doesn't make up for having to pay tax and waiting two days to receive an item you want. Their movie selection is meh to me.

To each his own. I don't buy enough random items from Amazon to justify it at $99.

prime owns for xmas shopping alone. that itself is worth the price. i order like 1-2 things a week from prime. i still don't have taxes here.

ordered 2 4lb of protein and new electric tooth brush heads on sunday (got them today), and ordered new pots and pans last night and it'll be here tomorrow.

i pretty much buy everything but groceries and clothes from amazon. it's just too convenient, i don't have to leave my house to get shit. 1/2 my stuff comes the following day too.

I used a prime trial once and they have me 20 bucks credit too. I used that to buy a dowco motorcycle cover last year. Retail for 80 bucks I got it for 60 and lasted me for such a long time. Life time warranty too but some ahole stole it last week. Time to sell my bike until I can get a place or apartment with a garage.

To each his own, is very true.

A few years ago, I got Prime right before Christmas, with the intention of cancelling it before the 30 day trial was over. I figured I'd never order enough stuff from there to make it worthwhile. Turns out that my family found it so convenient that we now have Amazon boxes on our doorstep about twice a week. Just got some Sennheiser headphones and pair of shoes for myself, and some hair product for my wife today. The headphones were definitely cheaper than I could find anywhere else, and the shoes and hair stuff were no more expensive than anywhere else. At the end of the year, there's no doubt my family finds more value than the cost of Prime. And then the streaming video/music service is just a bonus.

I had my motorcycle stolen from the apt. complex I was living in at the time. Quite frustrating.

lol I was awarded a Yukon bicycle for my effort at work 10 years ago, it got stolen a week later. I only got to ride it once.

Things I've learned from this thread: Never get a motorcycle. 100% of motorcycle responses in here have been about theft, which doesn't bode well for other AT users who get bikes.

Mine has not been stolen. As soon as my cover was taken off my bike I called my friend and had him keep it at his house. But anyway sorry for the distraction.

As per Major Nelson

Starting in the early access program later this month, new social features making it easier for gamers to connect with their friends and new ways to access their TV and entertainment throughout their homes will be coming to Xbox One. The updates include:

* New “Friends” section – the new Friends section has been available for a few early access Preview members and we’re expanding it to everyone enrolled in the Preview program. The new Friends section enables users to see at a glance what’s going on with their friends. They can stay up-to-date with their current activities, the most popular games their friends are playing, and a Gamerscore leaderboard to see who has improved their Gamerscore over the last 30 days.
* Snap Center – Some of gamers’ favorite features in the Xbox 360 guide, are coming to Xbox One in a way that’s now truly be side-by-side with games. Messages, friends, parties, and achievements will all be available in the new Snap Center, providing a seamless way to switch back and forth without having to leave a game.
* Threaded Messages – keeping gamers in their games while they multitask has been a huge focus. The new Messages app features threaded messages with the full conversation history – including embedded links to Game DVR clips – that can be viewed without interrupting gameplay.
* Media Player – a new app will be available soon that enables users to play media files from either an attached USB device or from a network connected home media server that supports DLNA protocols. The preview version of the Media Player app will initially only support USB devices, with DLNA support coming soon. Xbox One will support more formats than Xbox 360, including support for dozens of new file formats like mpeg 2 TS, animated gifs and mkv which will be added by the end of the year. See below for additional file formats.
* Xbox One Digital TV Tuner – announced last week, this new accessory will enter a limited preview program in Europe (UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain), in advance of its retail launch beginning in October.
* Stream TV to SmartGlass – launching first in markets receiving the Xbox Digital TV Tuner, Xbox One owners will be able to stream their TV across their home network to their smartphones and tablets using the Xbox SmartGlass app. They can also pause, play and rewind as well as change channels, without interrupting gameplay on the Xbox One. This will work for SmartGlass apps on Windows, iOS, and Android.
* Boot to TV – Now Xbox One owners will be able to set their console to boot directly to television when coming out of connected standby.
* Live TV mini guide – for markets where OneGuide is available, a new mini guide on the bottom of the screen will display details about the TV content that is currently playing. Users can quickly change channels and see what’s on other channels, while still watching TV.
* Country Expansion – we’re doing a lot of work on the backend to prepare for Xbox One to launch in 29 new markets in the coming weeks.

Starting today, Forza 5 offers a new car pack... For free.

2015 Mustang
Rolls Royce Wraith (first time RR has been in games?)
Renault Spark (all electric Formula E car)
-two others?

The Spark also kicks off a Time Lap competition, in which the winner gets to go to some cool racing event in Europe (Germany, I think.)

Forza Horizon 2 is up now. Looks freakin' amazing, as we already know. "Instant multiplayer" with no waiting, powered by dedicated servers. "The most social racing game ever made," the developer said. (Seems like a poke at Drive Club, doesn't it? )

They showed a couple of the "arenas" for multiplayer modes such as Infected. Those look like a blast to play!

Showed some of the Free Roam mode, which the developer touts as "no rules", they show cars going off road and seem to be able to drive wherever they want.

Forza Fuel is some sort of rewards program for both in-game and real world items.
