I purchased one of the refurbished Xbox one bundles from the MS site yesterday. I picked the Halo MCC as my free game, and today I got an email that the console and the game shipped, but I also got a surprise in my email that also contained Forza 5 as one of my digital games.

The site states that you get 2 free digital games - some stupid dance game and Ryse. However, I received a code for Forza as well! Not sure if MS is doing this as a bonus, or if the system made a boo boo....

when i first saw the listing on ms store yesterday, it had those 3 games included, plus the 1 you could pick yourself. then later yesterday, i saw forza was no longer included on the site and it looked like they replaced it with 1 month of xbl. did you also get the 1 month free xbl?

Yes I did. I guess that I bought at the right time then!

yeah that is a pretty unbelievable deal - 4 games, 1 month of xbl, and an x1 for $330. pretty crazy considering it was $500 for the console alone a year ago.

(and yes i realize its a refub)

and i'm not sure what you mean about KI. they have multiple versions. the combo breaker version you can buy online too, it's the $20 version. the ultra one is the $40 one. i'm not sure what the ultimate version is though.

The issue is that you cannot gift digital-only games, and the highest tier version of Killer Instinct is digital only. I'll probably just settle for the combo breaker pack, but I'd like to drop the nostalgia bomb with the remake of the original game.

Was Forza Horizon 2 supposed to be on sale today? I got my one from the MS store on Thursday night and it was selling for regular price. Still picked up Destiny, FIFA, and Shadow of Mordor for cheap though.

Hm... Best Buy seems to be giving deeper discounts if you're a GCU member. I went to buy my brother Killer Instinct, and it went from $15 to $11. I saw that they also had Shadow of Mordor for $25, so I decided to see what that would go to, and it was only $20. I couldn't resist. :$

Oh, yeah, it gives you the 20% off on Black Friday games as well. Got The Elder Scrolls Anthology for $12 and Metro: Redux for $20 myself, along with a couple of gift purchases. I might use the last day to add a $24 NBA 2K15 purchase to that.

It took MS a while to figure it out, but it does sound like the XBone outsold the PS4 during this Black Friday weekend. Considering it was $499 with a useless Kinect a year ago but now $320 with a free game... that's a big price cut. But it was totally needed.

I'd hope it outsold the PS4. They dropped the price almost depressingly low. It will supposedly stay around $349 until years end. I don't see how they can raise it back up though. I'm glad I didn't get one at launch, I'd be a little miffed. I think I'll wait for the redesign before picking one up.

Yep, XB1 outsold the PS4 over the weekend 53% to 31%.
http://blog.infoscout.co/gaming-consoles-black-friday/ Looks like the price drop and other promos worked great for the XB1. It doesn't "even" the war but I think it finally has overcome the negative PR for it.

Those are horrible numbers for the WiiU though. Even the Xbox 360 outsold it 9% to 6%.

I am not really concerned about the Xbox One winning anything, but I hope they continue to sell well in order to give 3rd party developers motivation to put effort in Xbox One games.

They got a year of awesome gaming that wasn't possible on any other platform.

That sentence sounds like it came out of the mouth of a CEO lol.

Every console and PC had a great year in gaming. Launch guys had to get the pack-in kinect and spend $500 without a game. One year later, $329 with two games + another free game. I'd be miffed, as I said. I'll probably pick it up when they release the redesign sometime in a year or so.

i'm not miffed at all. i knew i was paying about $750 for killer instinct as soon as i saw the prices of the xbox one + joystick + game. no regrets here.

anyone who bought it at launch for $500 and had no clue what year 1 of the console was going to be like is just an idiot with their money.

I knew I was going to get it as soon as they reversed some of the original decisions. No regrets. I wanted Forza and Killer Instinct even if I didn't play KI as much as I thought I might. I got my use out of it thats for sure.

The sales helped a lot. I'm glad I waited and the reason being was the price and the Kinect. If I had hd cable I could have used it but no regrets. This year was great for both systems I feel. With trade ins and discounts I didn't see a reason not to have an Xbox. I didn't think I would be into the Xbox exclusives either but I'm enjoying them a lot especially ryse and horizon 2, playing through halo games that I didn't get to play.

I just got the ps4 first since I was more familiar with its games and most of my friends also got one soon after launch. I'm also glad they reversed the drm stuff too.

The only exclusives I want to play on Xbox are the Forza games. I have no need for a Halo bundle. Sunset isn't my type of game either. I can see people wanting it for KI, but I'm not a fighting game type of person. I'm waiting for an excuse to buy one and the $329 almost had me picking one up. But $300+ just to play Forza is a little much, especially when I know I'll burn out on them in a week or so.

Didn't see this mentioned but I think it is useful info. If you have a lot of games installed on your console and don't want to uninstall them you can move them to a USB 3.0 external drive. I had a USB 3.0 drive doc and used an 320GB drive I pulled from an old laptop. When you first plug it in it has you format it then asks if you want to set the external as your default install location for new games. You can change this at any time. You can highlight a game in "my games & apps" and press the menu button and select manage game. From the next screen select where it says the game's size and where it's located. You can move or copy it to your external drive there. Then you can sort the games you have installed to show only what is on the internal drive if you want. I freed up a bunch of space this way. I went from 90% full to about 20%. When I want to play one of those other games I can just turn on the drive doc and load it up.

With the external solution, does the console require a full format? For example, I want a bigger HDD for my PC, and my One's storage is also wearing a bit thin. Would I be able to get a 3-TB external, then use only 500 GB or so for the One, letting the rest of the external hold PC media?

Yes, it does a format of the external HDD. I haven't heard for sure, but I doubt you'd be able to use it for both.

It formats the whole drive to some format I don't know. There was no way to specify the size. I can try plugging it into my PC and seeing if I can figure out the format type. I'm going to assume though that a PC won't be able to read it.

From what I read it formats the drive for the Xbox. It will no longer be a writable drive on your pc. I mean your pc will see it but you can't write stuff on and off of it unless you have Windows format it again.

Yeah, and I'm wondering about re-formatting just a portion on the PC. Would the Xbox be OK with that, or no?

I don't think so. Unless, the external drive itself can manage the different partitions, the Xbox is likely to just format the entire physical drive.
