already been discussed in here. because pc gaming has been like that almost since the dawn of time, and because pc games don't cost $60 brand new and can be found a lot of the time 1/2 off on steam a couple weeks out of release.
Also because Steam isn't the only game in town. You can buy retail games, can buy Steam, GoG, Origin, etc, etc. Because all the competition is there, pricing is outstanding on PC. Outside of super rare titles where pricing stays super high for a long time (usually Blizzard stuff), you can get a deal on almost anything, sometimes
even during launch week if you look hard enough.
Also, there's no publishing fees/platform fee BS, so the indie side of things is ludicrously vibrant on PC.
XBL is the antithesis to free and open competition on the platform, by design.
It would be equal ONLY if :
You *had* to pay $XX/mo for Steam.
You *had* no other choice if you wanted to play online
You *had* to pay your Steam account to play Netflix/etc
You *had* to register ALL games you buy with Steam, no matter where they came from
You *had* to go online at least 1x every 24h to play SINGLE PLAYER
You *had* no real way to give a game you bought RETAIL, OUTSIDE of STEAM to a friend, unless certain criteria were met, THEN the game was bricked forever after.
I'm glad people have started to wake up and smell the crap that Microsoft's been shoveling, it's only getting amplified this upcoming gen. They had multiple advantages this gen, like :
*- Great multiplatform versions due to PS3 being stupid hard to dev for
*- Early launch
*- Lower price of console
*- Better controller (subjective? I actually like the PS3 for many titles, though I like Dpads), but I would say that it seems that clearly most preferred 360 controller
What's on tap for the new one? Advantage 1, 2, and 3 look pretty doubtful. And the negative waywall DRM universe of crap they're pushing with Xbone is *not* making it look like even #4 to help in the least.
Basically unless Sony really fumbles (anything is possible, after all), Xbone is going to have a hard time.
