Why do you keep harping on games/consoles being cracked? What does that have to do with anything. It doesn't matter what Microsoft did with the console, it would be cracked. The PS4 will be cracked, too, it's no different.

Nobody will crack the PS4 because Sony is our savior and new gaming lords. Why would anyone have any ill will towards that company? They have never done a single thing wrong to hurt consumers.

Regarding the authentication check on Xbox One games. Has anyone heard if this is going to be for ALL games or just the disc based games? It seems like the reason for this 24 hour authentication check is to confirm you haven't sold/given away the disc to someone else. So I wonder if people choose to buy their games digitally and download them, which I believe are not transferable, it seems like there doesn't need to be an authentication check on these types of games? Wondering if anyone heard if Microsoft said this or not?

They said the same thing about Steam. That was almost 10 years ago. Still working. I highly doubt MS will shut down the Azure servers, unless the cloud computing buzzword dies down, which it won't.

That's where you and other XBoners fail with the Steam analogies, the PC doesn't have a built in shelf life like the consoles do. Consoles have a limited timeframe that they are relevant. This is also why people are so mad about this online authentication crap, I can open up a box and break out my old NES, SNES, Gamecube, PS, PS1, PS2, PS3, XBOX, Dreamcast whatever I want. Those systems will still work regardless of how long I play them after they are antiquated.

MS probably won't shut down their servers, they will however not keep allocated server resources to people playing their old hardware when they want everyone to upgrade to the new hotness. MS has a business interest in shutting down people's gaming and forcing them to upgrade.

They do this to businesses all the time by no longer supporting operating systems and forcing businesses to finally upgrade to keep receiving support.

PC games though HAVE been shut down and never to work again in multiplayer because developers shut down the servers. Steam may not have failed, but games on Steam have stopped working before and required hacks and mods from loyal fans to get working again.

Your XBone gonna let you hack the system to get multiplayer back in 8 years? 10 years?

Yah, it this is accurate, it makes it *FAR* better than the ps4 sharing system. This alone outweighs any negatives IMHO. I know its not cool to say anything nice about the xb1, but this is really frickening amazing.

What remains to be seen, if I understand it correctly, is how often you can change that +1 friend that can play with you. Do you pick the friend and then have to change it once a month, or is it forever, or is it any friend just whoever happens to be the first to try it.

Who gets to be head of the family, and what happens if they drop you off their list after you've helped buy 5 games?

MS will probably not let you belong to 5 different "families" at once, so you can't set up interlocking sets of families to control who owns what.

LOL, u so funny. Baby smacker loves smacking babies and iz teh witty

Seriously though. Sony will get hacked too, that is a no-brainer and your small mind seems to not have grasped my point so let me spell it out for you. MS did all of this to thwart hackers regardless of the spin which you believe. And the entire endeavor is alienating consumers and is fruitless because it will get hacked any way. And in my opinion, will actually draw more attention from hackers than it would have drawn. More people see it as a challenge means it gets hacked quicker. Just like Mass Effect on the PC when they had ground breaking DRM that could never be cracked, just as one example.

Can't wait to see XB1 and PS4 games on BCG

Harping? Because what do you think the whole 24 hour check in and everything MS has done is about? A fruitless endeavor to stop hackers which will ultimately fail and alienate would be buyers in the process.

What about that don't you get?

even if it gets cracked i doubt piracy will be that rampant, BD50s are not cheap to burn and downloading them is prohibitive due to size

every game on x1 is going to be digital, with the majority of them also being on disc. you won't have to burn them to anything, just send em to the hdd.

I disagree with you, the 24-hour check is a way to go disc-less without making it insanely easy for everybody to pirate games. Sure, it's to stop piracy, but not in the way you're thinking.

I'm sure you have a lock on the door to your house and car. Sure, somebody could still bust their way in but I'm sure you don't leave the doors wide open and then leave so anybody can come in and steal your shit. The locks are a deterrent. The 24-hour check is a deterrent.

Apparently he was referring to downloaded games on Xbox 360.

Xbox Support ‏@XboxSupport1 3h
@Jeffrey_Jue There was some confusion here. That tweet was intended to refer to downloadable games on the Xbox 360 actually. ^AD

That is good at least.
Where does it say it though? I don't see it? I even did control F and search 360 thinking it was for it before posting and it doesn't show up. I know it must come down to me failing at using shitty twitter.

LMAO. How is that good? So suppose you decide to DD all your games? Suppose MS doesn't like something you posted on their forums (or any other 100's of things we've seen happen over the years with companies in control of how you use your games? Why should ANYTHING prevent you from playing single player games that you paid for? How is that even legal? IDGAF about a ToS. What about having to be connected to the servers to even play your games to begin with? I would assume if you're banned you can't even do that since NOTHING works without it.

At least with Steam if it came to it, you can hack that crap. This thing is nothing more than a dumbed down locked down PC. The more I hear the more I think anyone considering purchasing this POS deserves anything that happens.

This isn't a step forward, it's control disguised as progress. Buy into it if you want, but you're a fool.

Although you'll notice the original question still doesn't get answered...

Can your xbone still phone home to let you play your games if you have no live account?!

I would think they ban your account from all the multiplayer servers. But your account should still be able to phone home. All they would have to do is set a flag when you get banned.

Unless they just ban your software id from the console then it would suck and that would be ridiculous.

I really hope that is wrong, wow.

It's nothing out of the ordinary, you agree with their terms for downloadable games. Pretty much any download games service is like that, you screw up and do something that's against the terms you agreed to, you get banned and lose everything tied to that account. I'm sure once the first one happens, we'll hear about it.

Everyone with a brain knows they won't keep their servers online forever. When they decide it's no longer profitable, or they want to change directions they will shut them down.

MSN Music store servers have been shutdown.

MS Gaming Zone servers have been shutdown.

XBox One gaming servers will be shutdown, it's just a matter of when.

You are usually wrong, and you'll be wrong again.

Steam servers.. oh no. Apple itunes servers... oh no. I know it sucks going to cloud services for games but, it is going to happen.. with Sony too. Developers and publishers have had enough of piracy / one week sales window for their games.. Sad but, its going to happen eventually.

I think this you will see in the xbox marketplace like you see right now. Xbox games can be purchased via the marketplace. I think you are going to see MS & Sony never again allow backward compatibility in favor releasing classic favorites via a cloud platform. I know you don't like it but, this is going to happen.

Backward compatibility is architecturally impossible. I'm not putting it passed them to do it on purpose to make you rebuy games you already have, but the simple fact is you aren't emulating a Cell on 1.6 Ghz 8 core Atom and they aren't going to add a Cell to the PS4 and make it $599 again. Ditto Xbox.

If anyone is being sneaky it Nintendo. Wii U is perfectly software compatible with GameCube games.

We got lucky a few generations because of massive leaps in technology that dwarfed the old system (emulation , Eg 360 playing Xbox,) or previous architectures incorporated into new systems (Wii is a GameCube, PS2 IOP is a PS1 on a chip, etc). We went from 700 MHz Celeron to 3 core 3.2 GHz 360. That's HUGE.

The PS2 is probably the most brilliant. The IOP is an important part of PS2 games but is capable of playing PS1. Unlike EE in the PS3 it wasn't just dead weight in PS2 mode, it was crucial for running storage, controller, sound, video codecs, etc.

Backward compatibility is a thing of the past now that consoles are as powerful as PCs. Like PCs the technological progress has stagnated and the technology over a 5 year period isn't going to be as massive like days past.

I for one would rather have a cheaper console than backwards compatibility. Sure I'll have to keep my old systems but a cheaper system is more important to me.
