Wait, so EVERY xbox one game needs to be authenticated with a server in order to play? Even if you don't copy it to the HDD? Why? That's not good. Not good at all, especially if you want to gift it to someone from a different country or if you don't have internet access. I had no idea but, if true, this sucks.

you really should go over to xbox.com and read about the xbox1, because from your post, i gather there is a lot of basic information you don't know about it.

Has anyone else confirmed this? I would love it if it's true, but it appears to be FUD at the moment, gamestop web site still has Xbox One listed on there. It does look to be doing very very poorly indeed vs. PS4 in preorders, but I see no indication that it's pulled.

Edit : the web site let me add both the Xbox One and PS4 as pre-orders.

Another source said, "GameStop has ceased taking pre-orders for Xbox One. Employees from a number of retail locations around the country tell Polygon that the company reached its launch-day allocation last weekend. The company says it is still taking orders via its online site." http://www.polygon.com/2013/6/19/4445098/gamestop-hits-xbox-one-launch-cap-ceases-pre-orders

Retail locations only get a certain allocation of stock. I assume the online orders just come directly from a distribution warehouse with quite a bit more stock allocated. That means they have sold out of their stock faster than the PS4 stock. Now, we don't know which has more available, so we really can't assume it means anything except the Xbox One stock has exhausted faster than the PS4 stock.

Good...it's a win for consumers. If this happens and turns out to be true, I may actually be able to buy one.
Yes if this is true, it is a great thing. It also shows that they are listening to their consumers and quick to take steps to make them happy, which is a good thing.

I think it's true we have multiple sources reporting on it right now.

Wow what a turn around lol.
Very quick, E3 is just over a week old and they are doing what they have to do fix some issues for a lot of consumers. Good for us gamers.

So when Halo releases I'll buy a Xbone I guess. I was just gonna skip it entirely. I do think Halo is dried up, but I enjoy the universe enough to stick with it if the reports are accurate on this.

Do you have that much faith in Halo though? I thought Halo 4 was just crap, and I feel like I was one of the few people still playing Halo for the single player. Totally not worth buying a whole new console just to get the latest Halo games.

The very most I would do is wait a while and get one after a price drop, but even then I can't see myself justifying the cost of an Xbox One.

w00t! We win. Fuck. You. :awe:

Hopefully this makes DRM a dead issue for a long time.

and if no one knows what he's talking about yet ... from badb0y in the other thread.

insane if this is true holy shit! but to be honest i said plenty of times in this thread that there is absolutely NO WAY ms could launch without making a change to drm, kinect, or price drop after the backlash they received after e3.

With how the system is designed (installing to HDD and the disc no longer being needed), I don't think they will remove the DRM completely. Possibly, they will lengthen the need to check requirement (like 30 days or so should be reasonable). I don't see how they can keep the installing feature with no activation / authentication. That feature will either have to be removed or keep some kind of DRM. Otherwise, you will just pass the game around.

Like I said, I enjoy the universe, and some of the online. I don't think 343 can do as well as Bungie but still. What can I say?

Even so, it'll be quite a long time before the game releases. It's not like it's coming next spring. It may be a long time before I grab one. I didn't use my Xbox 360 very often until I sold it after Halo 4 (which I will agree was not the finest work in the series, maybe the worst).

This news at least opens up the possibility of me owning a console in the future along side my WiiU and PS4.

Simple...check for the disk. See disk? Load game from HDD. Should be an easy change. Or do like steam, verify once and that's enough for a couple weeks offline.

The change I want to see is locking down the game if I lend it once. If you require the disk in the drive then if I have the disk my friend is SOL which is ok with me.

holy shit if all this is true...

No more always online requirement
The console no longer has to check in every 24 hours
All game discs will work on Xbox One as they do on Xbox 360
An Internet connection is only required when initially setting up the console
All downloaded games will function the same when online or offline
No additional restrictions on trading games or loaning discs
Region locks have been dropped

then DDAAMMNNN way to go ms! looks like you may be right back on top!

MS is wanting to do away with needing to disc swap (which I am all for because it is stupid, see ME2... even after installing all the discs, I need to switch between them. I can't just keep the first in...). They, at least I hope, will not go to the same method the PS4 is going to use and the current 360 is using.

I think they will just lengthen the time required between authentication. Like for Steam it is 2 weeks in offline mode. Starcraft 2 is 30 days. The trading still has to be deauthorized, otherwise, the disc free method no longer works. You buy a single copy, and pass it around to anyone that wants it. You all install and "authenticate" with the disc and then can resell the game, while keeping it. That IS piracy.

If Microsoft reverses course, it's a good thing for everyone. Yet, the same lot of you will still be in here bitching about something.

If they remove installing to the HDD and playing without the disc, I will be in here bitching. I didn't give a shit about the requirements because I could have this feature, but I might lose it because a bunch of whiners are complaining they can't sell their games...

Can't sell your groceries either, but nobody boycotts Publix... (best terrible analogy ever right?)

Disk swap? If the games are on Blu-Ray you can put the entire game on one disk.
