In the long run I couldn't care less why they caved. I'm just glad they did.

Now just get rid of that kinect requirement...

I wonder if they are going to reverse on the 'only one XBL gold account per console required' now that the family sharing plan is dead. Thats why they quit selling the XBL family packs earlier this year.
I think they've got to clarify what's going on with family sharing, too. Clearly, you're not going to be sharing your disc-based games. But, strictly speaking, nothing should be stopping me from sharing my downloaded games. So, maybe there's still some hope for a few of the cooler features. We'll see.

Well as someone who was very vocal on these issues, and very critical of Microsoft, I just want to state that I'm man enough to give credit where it's due. Well done Microsoft! Thank you for listening to the gamers and the majority of people who didn't want the online-requirement/DRM stuff. Props! We have a good and proper race now, and this is good for all gamers, regardless of whether one plays both, or prefers PS/XB/Nintendo/PC/whatever. This is evidence of a company hearing their base, and responding to it. Way to go.

But you still want their headquarters to explode and every employee to die a fiery death, right?

Had we all behaved like you then the DRM requirements would still be in place. Just admit you were wrong and everyone else helped you get a better product. Just say thank you gracefully.

I imagine the product is indifferent to him as he didn't care before whether he got used games or not. But yeah, this is a big win for consumers. On to the required Kinect...

Just imagine if MS released a launch console $399 without Kinect. Epic battles to be had!

I'd really like to see that product too, Kinect is a big turn off to me. I'd like to see MS compete at the same price point as Sony this generation. I imagine MS has other things planned for the future for Kinect with advertising though.

The problem is they (not just MS) keep pulling crap like this all the time. EA, Ubisoft...it's always something and then they later pull back then turn around to do something else just as bad or worse. Vicious cycle if you ask me and just give it time, MS will add some funky firmware update eventually that will cause another ruckus.

Wait, credit is due to a company that tried to take away the freedoms of its customers, and only begrudgingly gave them back once enough of them complained?

Yeah, credit worthy stuff...

Of-course MS will slowly move back to their original plan, if you don't think Sony will gradually start heading towards a disc-less digital only eco system over this generation you are deluding yourself. It is where the future lies, MS just tried to jump right to it which was retarded.

They did not help me get a better product. They helped me get a product using antiquated garbage because troglodytes can't live in the now.

They will always offer the disk. That's how the retail outlets that sell the console will make any money too and you know, advertise their product?

Finally, Whitten could not give any reassurance that Microsoft will not change its policies in the future.

While I understand they can't comment on future policies and don't know what the future will bring. They really could have said something that would give you a bit more confidence as well, especially with TOS being allowed to change at will.

It just gives an uneasy feeling with all that has happened, you know?

Yep I know...other forums I lurk at are still mistrusting of MS with people saying "they are just scared cause Sony has all the support now and think they can have us buy into their system and lock it down later" things like that.

At least...if I can be offline with the disk that's enough for me.

Of course, but I mean disc-less as in you don't require the media to use the product, its literally just an alternate distribution method. people can still buy a game from a retailer and display the pretty box on a shelf if they so want but the game is digitally authenticated and works without the media present ala steam.

Sony announced their console first but didnt come forward with any details at all until MS did. I've been wondering if Sony had similar plans as MS and then after sitting back and seeing the initial outrage if they changed their mind like MS now have or if they were truly always going to be 100% DRM free etc.

Well, a positive move is a positive move. This is good for gaming. We just have to stay vigilant. Of course I don't trust them. If they get a large install base, it may be awful tempting for them to try it again, but I doubt they'd survive the backlash part two.

It's not like I'm giving them a free pass, but I'd be a bit of a hypocrite if I didn't give them some kudos for backpedaling off the most heinous aspects of the XB1.

what are you talking about? you act as if the console was out and i already purchased it and was thanking ms for all of these policies. the consoles aren't even out for 5 months.

if you actually read my thoughts about all of it in this thread instead of jumping on the bandwagon, you would have seen that i already expressed my displeasure with the policies they had in place, just that they would not really effect me that much. im one of the people who should be thanked as well.

then all of the sony fanboys/ms haters had to basically pick apart ANYTHING ms which got annoying as shit.
