i agree with this. while i am 100% NOT excited for the kinect, and plan on putting it in my closet, i can at least see that microsoft has a direction they were trying to go with the x1 by having it packed in. so now when devs create kinect games, there target customers will be x amount of people who bought the x1. it won't be x-people who dont have kinect. so i can totally understand why they did it, even if i'm not excited for it.

Honestly, what benefit do you really think that we're going to get? The Kinect sold a lot of units, but arguably, the only good game that we got for it was Dance Central. A few games added relatively worthless tack-ons, but by definition, nothing that necessary. The problem is that since the games require you to have a physical input device (i.e. controller) already, how is a voice command going to best a physical button press? Voice commands work well when they're efficient. I use Siri on my phone not because I look so hip doing it, but because I can say things faster than I can type them. Actually, that kind of gave me a good idea. What I would really like to see is the ability to quickly respond to messages through voice. I actually have a full-fledged keyboard hooked up to my 360 upstairs because I hated using the controller (even with a chatpad).

Also - anyone who thinks the EYE will be a failure just because it's not bundled is a moron. Any game released on both systems will have all the same functionality with the EYE as it does with the Kinect.

And both features will be gimmicky

That could be true. The demo I saw on the ps4 eye was very responsive and worked the same as kinect 2 in most respects.

Why would you need to change it if you can plug in an external drive?

External HDD's that are 3.5 inches need external power. 2.5 inch HDD's that don't are too small.

External HDD's cost more than internal.

Why limit me from doing something? Fuck Microsoft. Thats why

Fruit Ninja GOTY material right there. Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI, Half Life, System Shock 2, Deus Ex, all dethroned.

USB is slow

USB3 won't be slowing down ANY dino drives that still use 1950s magnetic track and head technology....

It barely caps external SATA 6G SSD and only sequentials on the fastests SSDs. Your 90 kb/s random access external disk is fine.

i have no clue, that is why i said i'm not excited for it. but i'm also not a game developer i just play them.

if anyone saw that ps4 demo with the eye camera and the ps4 controller, that was one neat fucking tech demo. even if it isn't something i wouldn't use myself, i can see how other people would love that. i immediately thought how awesome it would be for kids when they showed those little critters running around infront of them on the screen and how you could interact with them.

the n64 rumble pack was a gimmick at first, now it's integrated into every controller. analogs were new at a time too and now they are integrated into everything. then nintendo brought motion into the console on the wii, and now it's integrated into every console. i'm at least open to see what they can do with it even if i'm not excited in the least about it just now.

also, major devs aren't going to invest in making a game for an optional peripheral unless ms is paying them to do so. at least with every x1 out there devs know that there will be a kinect there as well.

The Kinect adventures actually was pretty entertaining. I was playing it with my 10yo bro and having a good time. Only thing is the camera was probably only 75% accurate. Very lame.

EDIT:

And near the end it just kept losing track of one of us.

That would be cool if you could hook a NAS up though wouldn't it? Copy stuff to it over your network, streaming movies and games and everything off it.

I believe this should be possible with both consoles. Games maybe not but mvies and music and such

Pure SSD SAN and Infiniband home LAN is the only way to go.

Do PS4/Xbone even have 1 gig Ethernet ports?

I'm probably not familiar enough with NASes. Could you hook it up via USB to the console and also to the network? Then the console would use it like local storage.

ps3 couldn't run a lot of native hd codecs from usb, but you could stream them from your pc using the ps3 media server software and it would transcode on the fly. i would stream 1080p videos from my pc to my ps3 all the time no problem. it just sees it as a drive on the ps3 when in the video section. you could set up a nas like that as well, but your nas would have to be shared from your pc i think so that it could stream through the ps3 media server.

My ps3 has an ssd. Overkill yes but way faster than a spinner on usb. Also no CPU overhead on sata

When you know you have one you can put not often used commands on voice. Like the MW series, make the airstrikes and crap like that a voice command rather than digging through menus. Also stuff like squad control would be useful. "squad, on me" would be more fun than digging in the menu for it, and a lot more natural. I think the best idea I came up with the kinect in other games is to use it like a track IR headset. -Lean, view direction, stance control.
