Sigh. So what. When these interviews were conducted, he gave the answers that were correct as of that moment. Big deal. The company decided to make a change. Somehow that makes him a liar? Orth is the guy who "resigned" after getting into a flame war and insulting some towns around the country. He was largely criticized by this same community for being a general jerk. This is the guy you are now holding up as a martyr? Seriously?

This is hopeless. You win. Happy?

How about we discuss something that actually matters now. Has anyone seen or heard anything more detailed about how the Xbox One is going to work with TV? What I've heard is no DVR capability, but will it actually be able to tune live TV? Any chance it might actually be able to connect to something like an HD Homerun Prime from Silicon Dust? That would be interesting.

I'm sorry, I thought we were discussing a game console.

Hmmm... thread title says Xbox One. Microsoft is positioning it to be more than a game console, so I think my question is valid. I am trying to have a discussion, but some people seem insistent on turning this into anything but.

Any insight to the question I actually posed? No? Thanks anyway. Anyone else?

The "surprises" is what I'm basically waiting on before I decide which system to get at launch. I'm not spending the money on both but have "day one" pre-orders on each, so for me it's waiting to see the confirmed launch day/window titles, what they look like, and what the finalized OS will look like.

I much preferred the 360 OS (each iteration, anyway) to the XMB of the PS3. I still don't care of the XMB at all, it's too simple and too "menu-y" for me.

At least it was clear where the games were and not hidden behind ads.

I have no problem with either and think that will not change

Because I am not a paranoid, tin foil hat wearing, nut job. Benefit of the doubt simply means I will accept their word until it is proven otherwise. I'd rather accept the word of the identified MS employees rather than the word of some anonymous blog.

It has nothing to do with being "blind", "lacking backbone" or any of the other nonsense being tossed around. It's very simple. I always do my homework before making a purchase. I never had any intention of buying either console on launch and would have confirmed everything before making any purchase of either console. We are MONTHS away. A lot can and probably will still change.

And yes, Impulse, two people at Microsoft tweeted categorically denying what that anonymous blog said. I think the links are further back in this thread.

EDIT: This is the post. http://forums.anandtech.com/showpost.php?p=35170671&postcount=2948

The government denies stuff all the time and I don't trust them either lol

They said you would be able to stream tv to it. Nothing like a dvr I think yet. And later there will be sensors you can buy that wire to your other tvs so that the kinnect or whatever enables streaming of tv to the other rooms. Im getting a ps4 but if I do end up with an Xbox later I mainly will be gaming with it so I haven't bothered to research more into the entertainment sector of it.

I think it just works as a pass through for your cable or satellite box and has the guide etc available. I'll be honest though, I didn't pay one bit of attention to this past the "it doesn't work as a DVR". I will never use it

It doesn't stream any tv. All of does is pass the tv signal through and present an overlay on top of it. Nothing that hasn't been done to death many times over already and not one has taken off. Microsoft does have enough money to throw at it to keep in going though.

yeah the tv stuff is worthless. instead of pressing input switch on your tv, you say something to kinect and it puts on your tv just passed through.

i'll stick to using my normal tv input. i've never ever been multitasking on my 360 and watching tv at the same time and don't see it changing anytime soon. unless the fantasy football stuff is cool then i may actually use it. but we'll have to wait and see how it really is.

For me since I use my DVR and on demand service more than watch live TV, passing through live tv without access to these other services is useless.

be happy you didn't really start coming till later in it. it's amazing how there were like 3-4 people on these boards excited about the xbox1 before the DRM 180, but this thread had like 2x the amount of posts than the ps4 one because 95% of the posts were people letting everyone know how awful the xbox1 is.

I am excited for xbox one and was one of those posting. Sad to see all the BS that this thread turned into.

Yeah I don't see it doing more for tv than what a roku can do. You will have access to Netflix, hulu, any other streaming services you can find. What they mean by total entertainment room as they have mentioned is what was already said here, pass through so you can say stuff to Kinect and it sends signals.

I think it's a nice feature not having to switch inputs but my biggest problem with it is just having to leave the X1 on at all times. I will typically unplug my consoles if I know I'm not coming back to them within the next few hours. With that said, not switching inputs is nice but not worth the trade-off, for me, of having something else constantly draw power in my home.

Xbox has a tv interface that is supposed to interact with your TV set top. I don't know how this is going to work? I'm hoping more than just "here's what's playing"... maybe setup reminders about shows?

Really? Unplug it? In standby a ps3 draws 1.8w is that enough to be noticeable?

It's there to monitor your tv viewing habits. That's it. They could introduce further features later on, however at this time, it's a glorified remote and neilson box. This is why no one is really talking about it, it isn't that much to get excited about.

SO discussing concerns is BS? Interesting. I suppose voting is BS too, since you know, it's about concerns and looking to the future. This thread is BS if you're just here to play lip service to a company.

I agree...I was totally 100% against the xb1 after the TV and DRM revelations. After the change I am actually willing to toss money in with them as well as ps4. I was not willing to do that before. Discussing what you are concerned with and why, offers an opinion that might help someone with their decision. You can never have too much information on a product as a consumer.

Well it helps if the people who disagree with you aren't constantly tossing out "fanboy" and "haters". Just dilutes the conversation.

As with you though, it went from no buy to I might.

I tend to unplug my consoles as well. Always plays hell with with the cordless controllers being dead when I actually want to play them :/
