Why do you need an external drive for multiple games? I have almost 10 games installed on my XB1.

Really? Just looking at the used up section when a game is installed makes it seem like there is less space available.

I think what I'll do from now on is just disconnect the internet while installing then connect it to let it download the updates after it says ready to play.

Is there a way for the system to recognize your WiFi password so I don't need to enter it each time I reconnect?

It should remember at least one WiFi network by default.

I'll have to disconnect the internet on each install. Going to test it out today since I have more time hopefully after work.

I'll do an install of cod with internet hooked up wireless vs internet turned off and check the time difference.

Picked up ryse for $20 on craislist but I hear that install is huge as well so I probably won't try it tonite.

Well, with CoD, the install was (not sure if it is still) broken to where the game could get stuck in a loop between installing and DLing the patch, if you told it to update during the install. It was a pain for me, ended up spending 2 hours trying to install the game when I got it as a result.

Also, I noticed that my console was installing and patching Halo at the same time. That's probably why the progress bar gets stuck for a while, as mine got stuck at 2% for a long time as well, then sped up after that. However, once I got in (before everything was finished), it showed multiplayer install progress at 40-50%, meaning it was installing both things at once. If the progress bar only shows disc progress, that might be why it seems to get stuck for a bit.

Yea halo was stuck at 1% for 20 minutes when I decided to cancel it, take the disc out, disconnect from wireless, put disc back in, then let it install.

I then enabled my internet after it said I could play and then updated the game which took another 15-20 minutes before I could get into the menu and wait for at least halo 1 campaign to finish before starting to play.

Although it would be nice if the system remembered my WiFi after I choose disconnect because typing the password in each time after an install is annoying.

They really need to figure out how to make it like the ps4 installations. Install from disc first as much as you can, let the user in the game and either show an install bar or let them play a portion. I know it does this now, but it always tries to download the updates first before installing the game even if you have the disc version.

Can you just turn off your router instead of disconnecting wi-fi?

That's even worse going back and forth between rooms. So odd it won't save settings. I wonder what the ps4 does, I have it using Ethernet adapters so I'll have to check it's WiFi settings as well. Maybe both consoles don't do this.

Can I get some feedback on the Kinect option. Worth it, yes/no ?

If your attached devices support it, there's something cool about walking into the room, saying "Xbox On!" and having the TV, receiver, and console all turn on at the same time.

If only they would setup the Kinect to blast out an IR code to turn on the remote as well....

I have a problem with this sometimes as well. It used to be far more frequent, but has slowed down (possibly, due to my simply having less time to sit and play). I will get disconnected from the internet, but remain connected to the router. The only fix is to redo the connection wizard.

What kind of route do you use, might I ask?

You could just:

1. Decline update (you can play the campaign without it)
2. Get to the "Ready to Play" point of the install
3. Start the update

It's not automatic that way, but the effort is minimal.

I use a linksys e1200 N router. The Xbox isn't more than 10 feet away and has never been disconnected. But the ps4 has the option to disable the internet with a check box and if you enable it back it connects to
whatever wireless access point you had.

You can't decline the update unless you previously disconnect from the internet, and enable the internet when the disc tells you ready to play.
At least that's what halo did last night. If you are connected to the internet and pop the disc in to install it will just begin downloading the update during the install.

There is a pop-up that warns you that the software you are installing requires an update.

Yes that's after I disconnected the internet, installed from disk, reconnect, I got the pop up. If I don't disconnect and just pop the disc in, I just get the installing bar. If it would just save my wireless info after I disconnect in settings, I wouldn't mind doing this for each game I install.

It's just odd. For me the updates install quicker if I turn off the internet and let the disc install then reconnect and let it update after I launch the game. Otherwise, it just sits there saying installing forever.

I had the same experiences with CoD and Halo, that upon putting in the disc, the game began to install and gave me a pop-up that there was an update. I had the option to accept or decline it, and this is as a person whose Xbox is never taken offline. I can't really say what your situation is, but I can say it's likely atypical.

Well last night cod installed in about 10 minutes. But I played single player for 2 hours and multiplayer was still not done installing. Will the install continue since I quit and took the disc out, next time that I pop it back in to play? I guess sometimes it's subjective on the update and how big it is. Although fun, the game is a bit darker than I prefer..on the first mission I could barely make out the enemies. I'll need to mess with the in game settings.

I haven't installed Ryse yet so I'll try that tonite and I may just hook up the Xbox to ethernet while the ps4 is not being played.

Do the games install automatically? I popped sunset overdrive in and entered my AC codes before going to sleep. Woke up with it still being like 40% and nothing downloaded..

Did you have the power setting to instant on? Are you wireless?

All my installs have been wireless and some games just take longer although you should be able to play single player not mp since that takes longer to install.

Same issue I run into with some of my games. The install is not really a full install because it downloads updates before it starts installing from the disk. They need a Que and to have the updates download in the background while the game is read from the disk for the first time.

I played cod for 2 hours last night and the multiplayer section was almost completely installed.

Not sure. I'll have to check when I get home tonight. Also noticed the system was off when I woke up. Probably why nothing happened. I'll have to check settings.. all I had time to do was hook it up and enter codes.

The console will shut off after one hour of inactivity by default. Games on disk do not install automatically by default if I remember right. You have to click install disk.

They do install on their own. When I put a disc in, it starts installing on its own. If there is an update now I seem to get the update pop up before the install begins.
