<< What are your thoughts on the Pledge of Allegiance and The American Flag in public school. >>

I personally prefer to recite the Pledge to our American flag rather than to a future "U.N." flag. I recalling having to say the Pledge each day at school. I remember numerous flags both inside and outside my school. It is a bit of brainwashing. Would I have picked up strong patriotism without having recited that Pledge a million times? Probably, but who knows?

How do you all feel about the Star Spangled Banner sung at sporting events?

Not all of you are christian but most of you are and its your official religion.

<< Going to church doesn't make you a Christian. People understand that. >>

Ok People understand that, but why dont you understand that pledging some oath doesnt make you anymore of a US citizen as the ones who dont pledge that oath.

Most of us Christian? As much as statistics are bias, look at them (again?). Find out and say something close to the truth before you fire off comments like that.

Did I say "you must do this to be a citizen!" ?
no.
I just said that a for-real citizen would grow to respect his country.
Is that too much to ask?

Okay, here you go: You go over to any Marine who has seen serious, hardcore battle. You say "hi." Then you say "I don't really care about you. I don't really care about the flag. I don't really care about what you're doing for the country, the flag, or me. I don't care if you die."
Lets see how many weeks you're in an iron lung in the local hospital.

Czar, it's actually a very nice school. Students and teachers get along really well, everyone, from the members of the religious clubs to the members of the heavy metal video club, feels that they have the freedom to express themselves without fear of humiliation or rejection from the others. Tolerance and empathy are mandatory. The kids all seem to like it that way.

shit, people.

I'm not forcing people to! Why is it so hard to understand?

I'm saying people should, but I'm not trying to make people. I will die fighting. Other people who aren't as patriotic as I am probably wouldn't. Good for them (?). But should I get shot down for being so gung-ho for the USA?

"...yeah, I live here, but I don't really care if this country flourishes or even survives."

Let me ask you all something.
<--CHEER FOR OPINIONATED!-->

when you sing the national anthem, do you get goose bumps? Does it affect you at all?

I do. Sometimes my eyes tear up. (no, I'm not joking) I love my country with everything in me. I would gladly lose my life if it meant that people like you could go on spewing noxious gas called opinion.

That sounds better, sounds actually like a very good school, I was starting to think it was all about some christan cults, "Tolerance and empathy are mandatory" thats true, something more people should posess.

If you won't publicly pledge allegiance to the flag of this Nation, then to what Nation do you give your allegiance?

Sure you are not forcing it on people, just you are suggesting that people who dont say the oath are less than you.

tell me idiot, when did I say you said that?

Czar,
When I see someone staring at the flag going by in a parade and they're sitting down or still have their hat on their head, I do think less of them, yes.

Such a small mind not to be able to comprehend respect, whether they like it or not.

<< You go to any marine who has seen hardcore battle . . . >>

They are all getting pretty old now. Vietnam vets are mostly in their 50s and the WWII and Korean War vets are close to being in iron lungs themselves.

BTW, the 'Nam vets WERE seriously disrespected by the majority of Americans for too long.

Not saluting the Flag, pledging allegiance or singing the Anthem does not make for disrespect for the USA. There are a lot of patriotic flag-wavers that are are on drugs in jail or don't pay their taxes. No one can generalize on this.

EDIT: FFMCobalt, that is YOUR conscience. Other Christians take the Bible's commandments more literally according to THEIR conscience.

If allegiance to this nation will not come out of your mouth, then your committment is not real.

<< seriously disrespected by the majority of Americans for too long >>

I am honored to show my respect for my country and flag by covering my heart with my hand, but I don't know what the guy next to me is thinking or feeling so who am I to be his or her judge??? I think patriotism is a good thing to teach my kids

With Freedom comes responsibility.

Freedom is not the ability to use the benefit of this God given Nation to trample the contribution of the Just.

Even so, because of Wisdom, the Just forgive you and encourage you to join with us in committment to the maintenance of Freedom.

So little you are, going to namecallings. Anyway I did not SAY you think less of people because of your radical opinions, I said that you are suggesting it, and now you just prooved it. Respect is something that is earned, people can earn it, not a flag. People who lived 300-400 years ago should not be respected but remembered, if you respect someone you think highly if him, you forget his flaws and mistakes, we should never allow history to repeat itself.

Thanks, FFMCobalt!

I was just pointing out that it is very possible to be good loyal citizens without making an outward display of patriotism. And that is is just as possible to be "flag-wavers" while disrespecting this nation and what it stands for. (And visa versa.)

Christians are bound by their conscience. It is not an identical situation for each person's conscience.

<< Oh yeah? Who the fsck are you to make that judgement. How am I to know that when you are saying those words that your heart is not saying something else? >>

Out of the abundance of the Heart, the mouth speaks, and by their fruits you shall know them.

That's how.

OMG, Czar, I called Red an idiot after he did to me. Not you. Having personality problems, are you?

I recall being accused of forcing my radical beliefs of patriotism on people when I am only suggesting it. Logic isn't your strong point, is it.
