Clearly explained by Trevor Noah. Also when those gains are realized they are taxed at the capital gains rate currently 0-15%

Here a fix to make billionaires pay their fair share. Pass a law any compensation by a company can only pay a max of 20% in stock. The rest must be salary. This way they pay close to the same rate as working stiffs.

I think the simplest way is to make asset-backed loans be considered income.

There should probably be some exceptions. Like excluding mortgages on the primary residence, plus maybe $100k/year for car loans, etc. And paying back the principal of an asset-backed loan that was taxed should be a tax deduction.

Nope. You know that stock compensation is taxed as regular income right? More than half of my wife’s comp is in stock and we pay regular income rates on it. Then when we sell and if it’s a gain, which is not guaranteed, we are taxed at 20% for long term plus 3.8% for Obamacare.

The reason billionaires don’t pay taxes is because they realize the benefits of their equity via low interest loans with stock as collateral. Start by making that a taxable event.

Some of them also just cheat on their taxes ala Dr Oz not paying lots and lots of Medicare taxes.

Bernie was right, billionaires should not exist. I used to think that was a bit too radical of a premise, but no more.
Most people don't really understand how ridiculous a billion dollars is. I'd venture almost all of us would be thrilled to get a wage of $5000 a day, think of what we could do with that. New house, new car, hookers and cocaine every day. If we worked that same job since the day Columbus landed on Hispanola without a single day off we still wouldn't have earned $1 billion. Eat the rich.

Is wife receiving shares or options? I am 90% confident options are not taxed. In Elon’s case having options for millions of shares of stock that are in the money can be used as an asset to borrow against. So totally tax free access to obscene amounts of cash.
