As a Person, I disagree. Trump is only "better" because the political system he has taken control of isn't/wasn't a Dictatorship from the start.

Nope on this.

Social credit scores, Hong Kong, Uyghurs, Chinese immigrants, the inability for most people to move to different parts of China (especially rural people): all of these things disagree with you. The millions of Chinese who would love to immigrate to America, even with Trump in charge, would disagree with you. The few thousand Americans who will immigrate to China during Trump's administration might agree with you, but you personally wouldn't go live there and neither would I.

This isn't an endorsement of Trump. It is an endorsement that Xi is so, so much worse than even Trump. It's OK to acknowledge that Darth Vader is bad, but Emperor Palpatine is far worse.

That is the System. I wouldn't want to live there either. His character and demeanor is what I am talking about. He strikes me as someone who could have a serious conversation without coming across as a psychopath or moron. Putin might fit that, but if he mentioned nukes....

I am talking about Trump failing so he is weaker at home. This will give him strength. Like I said, this is just supporting his power. To me, that is bad. You are thinking way way too rationally about these other government's own successes rather than the overall big picture of Trump.

I stand by this is a bad outcome.

Don't know that it's "bad", because I don't really know what I'd consider a "good" outcome. It's not the worst, I think.

I think you are right that Trump will paint this as a win for his 'tough negotiating tactics' and thus it will encourage him to keep on doing this stuff, and his fans to keep on voting for him, so in that respect it's not great.

On the other hand, I distrust my own nihilistic instincts that would like to have seen him go through with it and cause complete economic chaos. I don't agree with myself on that one.

No, all the blunders are from his ideas. He is not a well educated man, the image you got is highly tailored through propaganda, it's God making.

He removed the term limit so he can be emperor for life. He even wrote his name into The PRC Constitution for crying out loud.

I don't know on what basis one would compare the two. Better or worse for what purpose? The contexts are so different, that it seems an entirely meaningless comparison.

Mr. Tariffs exploded the trade deficit to a new record due to frontloading.

https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us...-december-imports-hit-record-high-2025-02-05/

The U.S. trade deficit widened sharply in December as imports surged to a record high against the backdrop of tariff threats.
The trade gap increased 24.7% to $98.4 billion, the highest since March 2022, from a revised $78.9 billion in November, the Commerce Department's Bureau of Economic Analysis said on Wednesday.

Economists polled by Reuters had forecast the trade deficit soaring to $96.6 billion from the previously reported $78.2 billion in November.

edit: relatedly, it me. I bought stuff likely to be tariffed come January so I am in this figure. Not that I'm sitting pretty I'll be spending less and the economy is going to see the other side of the roller coaster hill soon because there are millions doing the same.

If there is a better argument that Americans simply demand cheap Chinese shit and will probably try to kill anybody who takes it away I'm not sure what it would be.
I don't know why people buy that shit. Yes it's cheap. It's also that cheap for a reason. I'm not saying people should only wear Versace stuff. But goddamn, a $5 dress brand new should send some red flags

When you live in a country that's religion is basically disposable bottom dollar consumption it's not really a surprise.

Also, for anyone that allegedly cares about human rights, you should absolutely not buy that stuff that is basically manufactured with horrible labor practices.

But lots of people on social media demanding instant gratification and new things all the time, to then go with their private burrito taxis driven by serfs. "No ethical consumption in capitalism, so I may as well just support the absolute worst practices until the revolution."

I’ll tell you the reason I buy it. 1) the quality on some of the stuff has actually been better than the name brand stuff. 2) it cuts out the middle man (aka Amazon). 3) why the f should I spend more and support American businesses who don’t support Americans (because their factories are outside of the US, because they pay their workers shit, because they pay very little in taxes, because their quality sucks)? I don’t give a shit about brands anymore, they may as well say sucker on it.

That’s not to say I won’t buy a quality product but if I’m not gonna get quality no matter where I go then I’m not spending more just so some other American can make a profit off of me. I’d definitely feel differently if I felt this country was actually trying to be better but it clearly isn’t so I’m not going to handicap myself for some moral principal that most of my fellow Americans aren’t going to abide by.

As a side note, I was one of the few people that supported the TPP, which had improved worker rights and working conditions and a majority of Americans, including most people on this forum, did not support it.

Tell me why I’m wrong.

Trump killing the TPP is another one of his moves that hasn’t strengthened but weakened American power.

Hah. I know a few three time Trump voters that he totally fucked over with that one and they still love him.

Even economic ruin won't convince the core cult that he's a moron who hurts them.

Trump doesn’t get all the blame here, democrats were for it before they were against it, including Hillary. It was just another thing republicans successfully rebranded and democrats caved.

Even if the country falls, they will believe them. There is no salvation for them, they follow fake idols.
