1: No pause in tariffs yet.US and China are having an initial meeting in Geneva this weekend. Not out of the realm of possibility there is a pause declared for some amount of time. If such a thing happens every container ship afloat off Asia will set course for the US immediately drowning us in imports again and overwhelming the ports. Ships piling up off the ports. Warehouses will overflow. Railroads will choke on the sudden glut of traffic. Air freight rates will achieve low earth orbit. COVID all over again.
Companies will dump every dollar they can find into importing as much as possible as quickly as possible forgoing other investments in labor and capex.
This is no way to run the world's largest economy.

2: Trump can easily change his mind again before they arrive. The uncertainty has done most the damage so far. Companies stopped making orders.
3: Factories have already closed in China. Some of those products will never be available to us again. Especially not at the price we were paying for them.
