"A three-judge panel at the US Court of International Trade, a relatively low-profile court in Manhattan, ruled Wednesday to stop Trump’s global tariffs that he imposed citing emergency economic powers, including his “Liberation Day” tariffs imposed on April 2. It also prevents Trump from enforcing his tariffs placed earlier this year against China, Mexico and Canada, designed to combat fentanyl coming into the United States.

The court ruled in favor of a permanent injunction, grinding Trump’s global tariffs to a halt before “deals” with most other trading partners have even been reached. That means the bulk – but not all – of Trump’s tariffs are put in a standstill.

The order halts Trump’s 30% tariffs on China, his 25% tariffs on some goods imported from Mexico and Canada, and the 10% universal tariffs on most goods coming into the United States. It does not, however, affect the 25% tariffs on autos, auto parts, steel or aluminum, which were subject to Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act – a different law than the one Trump cited for his broader trade actions."

Bold is mine. The explanation made sense to me.

Here's Lawrence O'Donnell's comprehensive take on this ruling. Explains things pretty clearly:

No I didn't zoom and even now when you told me about it, I was like what? where?

Just realized it now and it's not a person on the left!
Pepe is there with 2 other people walking and he's 50% larger , so he's not hard to miss.

I spotted it, I think I may have seen it somewhere else. Thanks for explaining the symbolism. Seems that the nutzo right wing is very into arcane symbolism. Shows how wacky they are.

Lawrence was overconfident there that this was end of Donald's tariff gambits given today's appeals court's temporary stay on the injunction. We really need to jack up the courts in this country. The rule of law requires that courts' rulings have weight. I suppose the court of public opinion will matter. It has to be in the public's mind that the judicial system is as sacrosanct as anything including the executive, law enforcement, the military, the constitution itself. Constitutional law matters. Without that, the USA is insane.

Standby… another blatantly guilty and convicted celebrity Will be pardoned any moment now. Nothing to see here.
Trump thinks himself in the pool of celebrities and is jealous of his status there-in. Thus, any celebrity bashing him will get a knee jerk reaction from him, i.e. vitriol, invectives, hyperbole, what have you. He can't take criticism. He boils over in 3 heartbeats. He's truly a piece of work.

Trump believes that celebrity status gives a person carte blanch to act in accordance with an alternative set of mores to that of people who are not celebrities, such as pussy grabbing, etc. A nice thing to have, he fancies.

Corollary to this is his pardoning American celebrities WHO HAVE NOT BASHED HIM, in his mind sweetening his own celebrity status. He is fucking nuts, as is the nation that elected him.

So what happens if Trump just says they're going to continue to enforce/collect the tariffs?
He likes attention. Therefore "just says they're going to continue" doesn't fit his style. Disruption, threats, retreats, declarations of postponements... TACO. He will not simply stand his ground because Trump has no ground to stand on. Ultimately he's a sham.

He'll simply keep piling on tariffs on his own political net worth. The idiot doesn't give a flaming fart about the damage he's causing that servile party of his and the nation so long as he thinks he's getting more milage out of them/us without jeopardizing his own turkey neck, of which is already on the chopping block. He knows this is his last chance to get as rich as he possibly can so this is his obsession. This is what he is totally focused on and whatever happens to the nation and the party he leads is hardly any of his concern.

He's using the Republican party and the folks who voted for him as blockers and sacrificial lambs in his effort to leverage his position for reaping maximum profit potential and fuck all if they have to suffer for it because well, that's what they're for, right?

There is some interesting commentary on the steel tariffs on the Australian ABC earlier today.

Trump tried steel tariff's in his first term... its estimated that it saved a thousand jobs... but all the down stream industries suffered... and its estimated that it cost the downstream industries 75k worth of jobs.

Timestamp of about 3:30.

"It will cost about $1mil per job saved."

This is all about Trump looking good for a brief moment.
