Already setup the speakers under control panel => sound?

I actually had to set 5.1 from within the Creative Audio Console to get 5.1 sound...choosing 5.1 in the Windows speaker settings didn't change anything for me.

yep, the funny thing is earlier betas worked fine, but had to f8 every startup.

I'm having problem with Vista not saving my video setting. Each time I reboot it defaults to the lowest screen resolution.

the nvidia drivers listed under video are actually for chipsets. There are no video drivers in there.

is there a way to disable "estimated time remaining" when transferring files? seems like this is severly lagging my file transfer speed as it's always recalculating the time left every few seconds. This is Vista RC2

thanks!

I'm ONE stop away from making RC2 my only OS. I have EVERYTHING working except for my brother MFC-640CW all-in-one. It installs the printer driver just fine, but I can't install the network scanner driver. If I can get that accomplished, I'm all set

I am missing the Creative gameport (I don't use it at the moment) and the WMD driver for that ATI AIW (which I use about twice a year). RC2 did fix the Intel ICH5R bluescreen during standalone setup and installing on a logical drive during standalone setup (been broken for the 3 previous CTP releases). I have not tested my critical apps yet (and no freaking chance until I finish doing the 16 band competition video). Critical apps are Avid Liquid 7, Hash Animation:Master v13, Sony Sound Forge 7, Call of Duty 2 MP ( - PunkBuster does not work under Vista yet and causes it to quit).

Nero 7.5.7.0 released yesterday is supposed to be Visata ready

and, to cr2250, yes vista boot pro third party software works great to remove vista without screwing up the XP install to the point it wont boot. Its basically bcd vs. boot.ini.

Was RC2 ever released to the general public? If it was, I missed it. Is there any way I can still get my hands on RC2? I'm finally getting ready to install RC1 and I'd hate to install if I can get RC2.

Thanks!

There's no legal way at this point to get RC2; it was only offered officially for a short time.

Now this is my major fear of vista. That my old hardware will not work for lack of drivers. Such as my canon scanner is not supported at this time and/or lots of software will not work properly. I may never want to afford the change.

Microsoft offered RC2 for download off their servers for only a short time. But the key thing here is the CD key that they only gave out for the Beta, and which still works for RC1 and RC2. They did not offer CD keys when they offered the downloads for RC1 and RC2, you had to have gotten in when they offered the Beta. So if you have the CD key, all you need to do is find a friend or co-worker with RC2, and copy the DVD. I don't think even Microsoft would consider this illegal, as long as you obtained a legitimate CD key for the Beta.

not true, key only works for one PC hardware hash, but can be used up to 10 times per key on THAT PC (2 keys were given out if you refreshed page)
If you activate, and give key to someone else, and they activate, key becomes blacklisted

5744 is available from any torrent site
Technically, its not pirate, because its a free public beta, so if you have an RC1 key you are legit.
However, MS does not like OTHERS distributing their stuff, and will stop them, but from the enduser standpoint, theres nothing they can say.

This isn't true at least in my case. I have it installed and activated on my Laptop and my PC. I have installed it with every version that has been public with the same key on both... using the same CD Key every time... No blacklist yet.

Yeah it's not true in any case. The keys can be activated on 10 unique machines an unlimited number of times.

Nope, that is not true.

Yeah, you can call the MS phone number and give a bunch of BS excuses and get authorization codes, and even a new serial, but online - no.
I do not wish to waste energy and go back in time and dig out blacklisted key threads, but with a quick google search, here's one, where a guy tried to authorize a key given by friend. He mistakenly assumes the key was used (or given out) 10 times by friend, but it prob only was used once, when he tried it from his machine and his connection, no go........

Well shoot...it looks like my buddy didn't have any slots left on his key (you can activate Vista 10 times with one serial key from what we understood). That means that Vista will only be on my system for the 14 days. If anyone has any slots left on their key...anyways, Vista 5384 x64 is quite the OS. I love the style of it! I couldn't get my wireless card to install at all, so i had to take my Tower to my cable modem physically plug it in...suck. And after all the effort, no activation for Christopholofigus! LOL Well, what can you do?! It was fun to play with at least. Now i can say that i have tried Vista and i am a computer uber geek.

You guys can believe anything you want, doesnt matter anymore anyway, RTM is due soon for builders, which will then be leaked instantly. And beta keys cannot be used for RTM.

FWIW: I do entertain the possibility that policy has changed towards the end of MS beta outputs, tho I doubt it. And MS doesnt have "unlimited" anything concerning their software.
I would be curious with the guy with Laptop what happens when he goes to update something at MS and latest WGA kicks in.

Nuff said.

Does anyone have a link to the Server Administrative Tools x64 yet....or do they even release that yet? I tried the Admin tools for XP x64, but it doesn't work in Vista x64.

Well I was a little off. You can active 5 distinct machines an unlimited number of times.

That's for keys from the connect beta site, I have no idea if the CPP keys were different. I doubt it, and if they are different, the only different would be in the number of distinct machines you can activate with a single key. They keys should all have unlimited activations on a particular machine.

Can someone please tell me what happened to the options to set up partitions and format my drive? I just got Vista installed and I didn't see any options to set up partitions or to do a full format of my drive.

Thanks!
