Just got finished with Season 5 tonight.

Hands down the best TV drama ever created.

I loved the realism in the violence, language and cinematography.

True. The Wire is mentioned on ATOT once every 4-5 days it seems.

i love its portrayal of the ineluctable (and some wuold say inherent) imperfection, corruption, bureaucracy, and conflicts of interests of those in position of authority and influence (police, government, and to lesser extent media).

real good wake-up for you naive ones on anandtech.

and obviously its a fictitious show but it is loosely based in truth and the themes above are simply of nature

I've heard about it, when O&A were still on terrestrial radio, they raved about it on a regular basis, I've just never watched it before.

I think ATOT is well aware of it. There are, however, a lot of people out in the "real world" who have never heard of it. And among those who have, there are a fair number who dismiss it as too dense or hard to follow because they want CSI or Law and Order drek and get a deep show instead. Definitely the best TV series ever created.

I know it's a nitpick but I wish it weren't letterboxed. Apparently the creator wanted it to look like a TV show, so he insisted that it be letterboxed. Not a huge deal but it annoys me a bit. I have the entire DVD set (got it as a Gold Box deal a few months ago), but have only just started watching it.

I think he's referring to the 4:3 aspect ratio. On the DVDs you get the usual black bars on the sides because of this.
