I use my keyboard and mouse and usually don't mind switching around the weapon wheel for the signs. I was going to use my xbox 1 controller but I've gotten used to the keyboard and mouse.

As for witcher senses, stay within the circle and you will find items to examine. There has been a few times I've gone out of the area to get a better view and then I find what I need to examine.

I don't think I've come to a point where I find items outside the circle that are ahead of what I need to be looking at, usually if that happens you advance to the next part of the quest.

You should be running 16GB in a gaming anyway. I've clocked both V and Witcher III cracking 5GB RAM in total including 8.1. 8GB is just enough but you can forget about RAM for now just by doubling it.

Also don't fiddle with the page file. Leave it at automatic. Windows isn't stupid it knows what its doing.

So just curious, are most of you using kb/mouse or controller?

I am liking the game fairly well so far. I have to say though that I am getting tired of the "find x,y,z" with your Witcher sense and then have it not be in the area indicated by the circle that is supposed to locate it. Seems like they took this annoying mechanic straight out of DA:I. Interacting, like for picking herbs and looting stuff is similarly annoying in that you have to stand in just the right spot. I was asking about controller, because this seemed to work better in DA:I with a controller vs kb/mouse.

It would also be really nice if they had a hotkey for each of the Quen signs instead of having to scroll the mouse or go out of the game to switch signs. This mechanic seems definitely one that was designed for consoles and could have been much better implemented on PC.

Started with the kb/mouse, but switched to XB1 controller after about 4 hours. Struggled with the first werewolf and seriously thought about not playing anymore.

You can get 140 to 200 hours of playing time out of this game if you do it all,by the end you are around level 35 or so and everything is too easy.

By design you'll find some contracts way above your level,so come back later which I've had to do for quite a few fights early in the game.

Don't forget your potions as well, they can be really useful in battles, also upgrading to better armour and weapons etc and don't forget your skill points for your character as well.

Last if you find it too hard can always drop down the game difficulty.

Way past that now after switching to the controller. As of now, I have 75 hours into the game and at level 32. Since the switch, the game became almost too easy and I had to bump the difficulty up. Just my opinion, but this game feels like it was meant for the controller and kb/mouse was an after-thought.

The only problem with the keyboard is the running-speed.

1) With the keyboard you get 3 running speeds. Normal running speed (pressing w), walking (toggled by pressing a key), or sprinting (w plus keeping the shift-button pressed). That's awkward.
2) And it's inconsistent (toggle for walk, keep pressing for sprint).
3) And the speeds are different indoors and outdoors.
4) And there is "momentum". It takes Geralt a second (or longer) to start running and stop running.

This makes you bump into things. It makes you feel very clumsy. Maybe the momentum thing is done for more immersion. But it completely missed its point. It makes you aware you are playing a (clumsy) game, and that you are not really a witcher.

Maybe playing with a controller makes this less obvious ? Analog speed ? (Although I think there are still only 3 speeds, because there are 3 animations. Maybe the transitions in speed are more fluent ?)

Maybe the controller is better for movement. But the drawback is that a controller is always less precise for look-around than a mouse with mouse-look.

====
I myself try to get the best of both worlds.
I play with a joystick and a trackball. The trackball is just like a mouse. With 4 buttons. The joystick is for movement. And the buttons on the joystick (20 of them, 38 if I use the shift-functionality) for abilities. I play all my games with this setup. Since 1999 (playing Unreal).

Recently I started using a free utility called x360ce. It allows you to use one or more input devices, and make them look like a gamepad. I started using this for GTAV. (Because digital left/right makes steering cars a big pain in GTAV). And now I use it in TW3. It allows me to program my joystick for analog movement, just like a real gamepad would. Very convenient. It improves movement in the game a little. Unfortunately the movement still feels pretty clumsy, because of the momentum.

Windows automatic management equates to "make the page file match the size of the installed RAM". That wastes a lot of space if you have windows installed on a SSD. If you have enough RAM to keep up with your program usage you're perfectly fine setting it to like 512 MB. Just don't turn it off entirely.

Ran into that myself. My max carry is 130kg I am hoping once I get to skellige I can find a bigger saddle.

The biggest one you can get is an additional 100.
You can get it in novigrad. there is a merchant near the king of beggers behind a locked door.
If you follow the main quest for Triss for a bit you can get to it

It is available somewhere else as well but cannot remember where

I see, I just finished that quest yesterday so I'll have to go back there and check.

Those are zerrikanian saddlebags, notch below them are "rugged" ones. Those can be found in Novigrad, Oxenfurt and Skellige isles. I have not seen any in Velen or WO, I really cleaned those areas so feeling confident to claim that none can be found in Velen or WO. You can find rugged ones in Velen.

I'm nowhere near finishing the game and I'm level 42. I did clean up every side quest though so far.

I beat the game last night. I cleared everything in Velen/Novigrad, but only scratched Skellige. I think I finished the game around level 34, and with the full mastercrafted feline set, full fast attack (plus cat perk) and full survival, the game became rather easy towards the end.

But I pushed through honestly to settle the story - once I got the mastercrafted gear around level 30/31 - I put the 10% quen sign glyphs in all of the armor slots, and had planned to put all the highest upgraded runes in my weapons but it wasn't needed.

There's actually only one thing I wonder about in this game (I got the "happiest" ending). When you're in Skellige on a main plot point at a banquet, there's this fist fighting tournament in the corner of the banquet. I could only beat the first guy at that point in time, and I really wonder what the reward is if you're able to win that tournament. Any of you know? I don't have a save from that time to go back and try it myself.

On the whole, the game is a masterpiece to me. If I had more time I would have done every single side quest, question mark, point of interest etc. because it really is an immersive game.

I thought we were gonna get wolf school gear. Honestly I don't see why there isn't a set of masterwork gear for the Wolf school. It's Geralt's school after all.

Last week was the pig quest wasn't it?

that was the previous week. I think you time-warped/were unconscious last week? :hmm:

But I believe the wolf gear/Triss slut clothes only released late Thursday/Fridayish. They weren't on Steam Thursday morning, anyway.

I see that's why I'm behind, I thought it was 1 per week. Just finished getting the wolf set. Love the armor, not so much the weapons but they're ok I guess.

Well, I finished the game tonight, 130 hours in. I got what I'd probably consider the best ending
Ciri becomes a witcher, and Geralt is with Triss
. Nice
plot twist
on the ending, I thought.

Here's hoping that one of the four remaining free DLC is NG+. And hoping that when they do an enhanced edition that they add some more closure for the side NPCs. That's my only realy complaint with the ending.

I know its been said already, but the side quests in this game are very good. I haven't done a whole lot of them in Velen yet because of my low level, but a memorable one for me so far was the one about old lady's manor, cool turn of events based on previous game choices.

Yea sometimes the quests are more interesting than the story. They are pretty unique and worthwhile unlike many other games.
