I'm just irked when games do something like that. You had to resort to Google to figure out what should be a basic combat mechanic. I had to resort to Google just yesterday to figure out parts of an Assassin's Creed 4 minigame that weren't adequately explained in any documentation. If someone has to resort to Google to figure out how to perform a basic action in your game, that's a failure of the game design. And I'm not the only one who felt that way about The Witcher (2); virtually the only complaints that anyone had with the game was that the developer did a poor job explaining the combat mechanics and controls. But that's a big issue in my mind, and I hope it's something they address in the third one, because it looks fantastic.

Ah, gotcha. I agree, it was mostly a "figure it out on your own" kind of thing. I didn't mind that, and just used Google for a tip or two. I agree that you shouldn't have to do that though.

My problem with the combat is that the controls aren't responsive. I had to switch to a 360 gamepad because I thought the delay was due to my wireless KB/M, but that didn't fix anything. (also, the button arrangements to pull off the combos just don't work for me on standard KB/M, and I didn't want to spend the time to fiddle with it. I can still use keyboard for menus)

It's a twitch based game where timing is very important. It seems like ~20% of the time, I will get a near 1 second delay in response, and I'm talking about very simple moves, after finishing the previous move and all that. I don't see how that is acceptable, to be honest. Delays like that in this game are punishing, and when it is the fault of control response and not the player, I don't interpret that as a legitimate component of difficulty.

@zin

Are you talking about Witcher 2? Because I played the entire game on keyboard/mouse and I don't remember noticing any delay.

Although it has been a while. Maybe I'll go back to playing it from the alternate storyline this time.

Sounds like a problem with your system. I have multiple playthroughs of Witcher 2 on KB/M and I've never had any delays, let alone anything resembling a full second. In fact I found the combat to be quite fluid and intuitive after some practice.

I found that the controls with the KB/mouse was complete crap on multiple systems. The first Witcher was more responsive, but very awkward. The second was intuitive, but feels like playing in mud.

I love how bold and ambitious CDPR is. I mean, to release a multiplatform game on next gen consoles and PC only to preserve your vision of what the game should be, rather than releasing it on the last gen consoles which would result in a totally inferior product is definitely commendable.

GoTY already!

I hope it doesn't release at the same time as Dragon Age 3. I'm getting both of those games and given that both games will be absolutely massive and the snail's pace that I usually game at, I don't think I will be able to finish them within even three months. I'm already backlogged big time.

Games are just getting bigger and bigger it seems, but is that a good thing or a bad thing?

Like a good book or movie, if a game is really exceptional, you never want it to end. On the other hand, there are games that are too short and the buyer feels cheated, or the game was so bad it wasn't worth one hour of time spent playing. Open world RPG's lend themselves to long play times due to the many quests and replayability as a different character. The bottom line is if you like a game, it can never be too long.

Several gaming websites will be showing CDPR's lives stream Summer Conference at 2pm EST today. They will be showing brand new game footage, and will also have new details concerning preorders and the Collector's Edition.

Link to GoG website where you can watch the event.

Although I'm enjoying Watch Dogs at the moment, I feel that being a cross generation game really diminished it's potential; especially on a technical level.

Witcher 3 on the other hand is next gen and PC only, so I'm hoping that it doesn't suffer from having to have downgraded assets because of some ancient consoles..

Given the tone this company runs on and how they've handled Witcher 1+2, i'm expecting and confident of great things from the this.

Feb 2015 is unfortunate, but I would not be surprised if theres further delays.

Damn, that was beautiful and hearing Charles Dance voicing the nilfgaardian emperor.

That looks outstanding. I hope it's slightly more forgiving to newcomers than the last one; couldn't get into it because I couldn't figure out what anything did.

Absolutely beautiful. And again CDPR gives out more in the standard edition than most companies do in the collectors.

If anyone's interested here's the secret message that the devs always put in the trailers.
-----------------------------------------------
"We missed you!

Today we got a look at the third trailer for the witcher 3 wild hunt. We hope you liked it!

There's much more to the game that it's just impossible to show everything within two and a half minutes.
Most importantly, we showed you a preview of our main characters:

Geralt's close friends and some of the last witchers remaining in the world. Vesemir, Eskel, and Lambert will play a big part in the game, as well as their famous fortress, Kaer Morhen.
You also got a glimpse of the renowned bard Dandelion and the sorceress, Triss Merigold.
Emhyr Var Emhyreis, Emperor of Nilfgaard, the most powerful man in the world of the Witcher also made an appearance. Recognise his voice?
And then there was Ciri!
And Yennefer!

By the way, if you're new to the series, don't worry, the game will provide you all the information you need to know, and you'll start loving (and battling) characters in no time!

Also you've been asking many questions about gameplay features and we're finally ready to answer some of them:

Yes, you will be able to fight on horseback.
The crossbow. Yup, Geralt has a ranged weapon. Because monsters fly and you can't stab them.
Remember swimming and sailing? You'll be able to dive and search for a lot of hidden stuff too. There's a whole underwater world to discover.
Horse racing anyone?

You also got to hear more music from the game. This particular track was composed by Marcin Przybyłowicz and Percival. We'd love to hear your feedback on our forums, facebook, or twitter etc.

P.S. Have you seen the Witcher 3:Wild Hunt Collector's Edition video? What do you think of the figure?
P.S. If you still waiting for more, please be patient, we're just warming up!"

I'm not holding my breath. This should have remained a PC exclusive series. No 2 was seriously tiny and cut back compared to No 1. At least its not running on old gen.
