On my 970 I get between 45-70 riding around on my horse in the open world

On Ultra graphics with hairworks disabled, Post processing set to High

And yet most people might think im crazy but I prefer a locked 30fps over 45-70

I'm using adaptive vsync. Tearing is pretty minimal as long as you're not turning in circles and your framerate averages high. After going to adaptive vsync, I can't see wanting normal vsync again, variable refresh rates or excess performance to spare (to lock a framerate) please.
I can't do 30fps though. Might as well buy a console then.

Do people really like the way that sharpening enhancement looks?
Yes.
But mostly it is used in combination with certain types of Anti-Aliasing. AA does not only work on edges of models or objects, to smoothen the jagged outlines. It also works on textures. The new modes of AA (FXAA and TXAA) not only smoothen edges and textures, they also make the overall picture more blurry. As a side-effect.

The sharpening is used as a counter-measure to that blurrying.

So if you don't use any AA, then you probably don't need any sharpening.

But if you use in-game AA (not sure if that's FXAA or TXAA, but it is one of the two), then sharpening will "undo" the blurrying.

I use in-game AA, plus SMAA from SweetFX. I have in-game sharpening set to low. Plus sharpening in SweetFX. (Using KPutt's preset). So two forms of AA and two forms of sharpening. That might sound weird. Or might sound like overkill. But I think this gives me the nicest image quality.

BTW, after the patch it seemed I could not set FastAttack and StrongAttack to keys on my keyboard (I use Y and U). Only to MouseLeft or MouseRight.

I edited the input.settings file, and now it works. I rather not mess it up by experimenting more (you need to change a few dozen lines). But was I the only one with that problem ? Or does everybody use LeftMouse/RightMouse for attacking ?

Well minor complaints aside which are largely around control... I feel a bit too disconected from Geralt in my movement in the world and i'm not fond of the jump deaths which don't make sense for the height vs damage taken related to a man of Witcher Status.

The one major bug I had was regarding an XBOX One Controller in the Witcher 3. If I start the game with the controller plugged in, then the game executable as seen in Task Manager will intermittently take up 99% CPU usage and the game will freeze for 2-5 seconds. Then the game resumes for a period of time before this happens again. It's random, but it sometimes occurs often enough to destroy immersion. Up to 5-6x in one minute.

If I start the game, and then plug in the controller, this issue goes away entirely.

Anyone else using the XBOX One controller connected via USB and having this issue?

A friend visited last night and brought their controller. It was an Xbox controller, but IDK if it was from the 360 or Xbone. Only played perhaps 2 hours, but no issues.

The game is horribly unresponsive.

After rushing through the initial dialogue and cutscenes and roaming around a bit I realized I had better play through the Witcher 1 and Witcher 2 before I dive into this bad boy. Or atleast Witcher 2. Might just watch all the Witcher 1 cutscenes on YouTube but W2 seems like a must play before this to really appreciate. ANd not only that but I feel I better play through Skyrim and Kingdoms of Amalur as well, lest those games feel like sorry pieces of obsolete crap by the time I finish Wild Hunt.

So in other words, look for me to be necro'ing this thread 2017/2018 #toomanygames #toolittletime

No issues with the XB1 controller via USB.

I do also take issue with the movement and the jump deaths. Had so many awkward ones and of course they occur after not saving for 15 minutes. They seem to be way too random. For example, killed a deserter and went to loot his body. Suddenly another guy appeared and the loot button turned to jump and off a cliff I went.

Finally got back into it in the past couple days. Not sure if it's patch 1.04, but my mouse has been bugging out lately. Mostly I'll start the game and the cursor is still there (interestingly to the top left of Geralts head), and other times the cursor disappears in menus.

Also had 2 crashes tonight.

Still, I'm in Vergen now and rather enjoying it!

No, it just looks like a mess of oversharpening artifacts, like many of those horrible mods people apply to Skyrim etc. The low setting is pretty subtle, but the game still looks better without it.

Dunno, running with everything on ultra, removing sharpening clearly makes textures look blurry.

Am I stuck in this quest now? The wandering in the dark one. I beat the golem and now I'm up to the gargoyle but I've run out of consumables and my armor is shot pretty much. Pretty soon my swords will be too. I'm level 6 now but I don't think I'll get past this one as I've read there is another boss too.

Hopefully I can load another save if they were not overridden with auto saves. I keep exploring and trying to do side quests and its as if I'm playing it wrong because I get nowhere. I should have just looked for the barons family instead of seeking keira the witch. Got caught up and I feel stuck now.

The newest Nvidia drivers caused me to crash for the first time. Quick check on Google, seems others have similar issue.

I'm rolling back to GTA5 release drivers which were more stable for me.

With Keira? You have one more boss, but he really isn't that tough with proper oil + dodging skills. He looks scary, but he really isn't all that bad.

TBH, I haven't noticed too many problems with damaged swords/armor. I just hack away until stuff dies, even with swords at 0%. I have to dodge more, but whatever.

I feel that the swords crap out way too quickly, but I suppose that is more realistic. That being said, armor is way the hell too resilient in comparison. I mean, demon scratches my light leather armor one or two times, that shit should be worthless without repairs, but I rarely see an armor piece dip below 80% before it gets replaced. .

Maybe we could have two official threads

Witcher 3 Story/Gameplay discussion
Witcher 3 Technical/Performance discussion

so we dont get spoilers

For people who have made it through the main quest in Novigrad to the point of meeting the lady bard (very minor spoilers):
when she finished singing, a woman, who appeared to be the tavern keeper from White Orchard, walked in and accused me of murdering Temerian soldiers in White Orchard. I haven't a friggin clue what she's talking about, I don't remember killing Temerian soldiers unless some of the bandits/deserters count. Also, I didn't demand any payment from her cousin hiding from the griffin at the beginning, so she was happy with me last time I talked to her.
That was just a random thing to happen out of nowhere. Will it be brought up again or resolved somehow?

Also, I found the trollololol near Oxenfurt. He cracked me up.

ugh, the movement in this game just feels clunky to me

its like when you go from standing still, to first start moving, or quickly change direction, there is always like this frame-skip, despite being locked @ 30 fps (and GPU not even struggling, only running 50%)
