No patch today, been confirmed over at their forums, anyway decided to play one more Gwent game and the guy had 102 just for his close combat cards, had about 12 of them in a row, lowest was 8 some were 12 lol, anyway I let him win that round ,no chance of me getting anywhere close to that one.

Trying to pass the time while I wait for the patch, might do some online multiplay gaming .

Got to party with Triss today.
Also did the quest after that one
helping the mages escape from Novigrad. Cool quest. Tough choices. Also, Dijkstra's proposal to knock of Radovid... It SOUNDS appealing, which means he's probably lying or has some ulterior motive.

Triss has some really nice shoulders, almost as though they used tessellation. You can't see any edges or anything, so they used a lot of polygons there.

Can't wait to see her boob physics

Gwent is probably my favorite part of Witcher 3. I constantly find myself checking the map for new merchants revealed and then wondering if I've played them yet. It's a combo of luck of cards drawn, strength of cards in your deck, and strategy in playing your cards. Once you get a couple spies/decoys (northern realms), your chances of success shoot up.

Haven't really played any other factions at this point.

Yes, but you can still obtain the card anyway, and it redirects you along a different path. For me, anyway
that collection quest was not failed after the Baron killed himself--it just told me to find the card in his office and talk to someone else about playing cards

Right exactly. but for me
The baron was off to the Blue Mountains to get his wife healed up. If you kill the wispering tree and the children disappear, Anna becomes borderline autistic. If you release the Tree (and he is supposed to release the kids) the baron will kill himself.

I guess it depends really on if you want to just collect them or actually try and win them, some quests as you know can stop you from winning them.

The only ones you absolutely can't get that I know of after the story is done is from Lambert, Djikstra(depending on the ending you get), and the woman who runs the Passaflora Brothel.

Hmm, I'm loving gwent. Last night I played one dude for like an hour lol. Way too easy though, once you buy a few cards from Vendors, then win some unique ones in the quests, you're almost unbeatable.

Hope it gets more challenging though. Already completed that High Stakes level 26 quest when I was 14.

I don't see how, even when I cheated and gifted myself some cards I have to almost use my whole hand on the first round because their total keeps going up and it's impossible to beat it.

Then don't beat it. Throw a high card out get him to commit then use a decoy to put the high card back in your hand. They win the round but you keep your good cards.

Yea, once you have decent cards, it's all about strategy. If your opponent comes out with a ridiculous hand, just pass or try to get them to burn more cards. You don't have to win the first round, just 2 of 3.

I find the Northern Realms to be the strongest of my decks. Use the 22 strongest unit cards you have, remove the rest from your deck. I throw in a scorch, clear weather and battle horn, and use the double siege points leader card.

If you're having trouble with one particular opponent, you can always learn their deck and tailor yours to beat them. I've found with the above setup it's very hard to lose against anyone I've played, and most are very easy to beat though.

I've really enjoyed Gwent. Best mini-game I've played in a long, long time. It becomes a bit too easy though once you figure out some of the tricks and upgrade your deck a bit. I'm using an upgraded Northern Realms deck and have won probably 18 of the last 20 games I played.

You want to set up your deck to maximize the number of cards that you'll be able to use. Spy cards are the best, they give your opponent points but you draw 2 new cards when you play them. Revival cards are good too, they let you pull a card from your discard pile and re-play it. Decoys are also good to have, because if the opponent pulls out spies, you can grab them and use them yourself (or reuse the revival card to pull a second card from discard).

I'm fond of baiting opponents into getting over confident and passing in the first round. In my ideal game, I'll draw 2 spy cards, giving the opponent about 9 free points but leaving me with 12 cards after I've played them. Often then if the opponent has 25 points or so while I still have < 10, they'll go ahead and pass. But if I have the right cards I can generate 30-40 points with just a few cards (2x Blue Stripe Commandos + Commander's Horn = 32 points). So I beat them with maybe 8 cards left, while they're down to maybe 6 cards. Then I draw an additional card with the Northern Realms faction perk. If they get way ahead though, its well worth passing and losing the first round. I've had some opponents (monster decks especially) throw out 50-75 points or more on the first round. If you pass and lose just remember that you still have to beat them twice.

It's also good to know how the decks usually play, and stack your decks appropriately if an opponent is giving you trouble. For example monster decks can be very intimidating to play against but they're basically all close combat, so you can shut them down easy with a frost card.

Anyway, I didn't mean to write a whole essay on gwent.

I'm sure it's fine. There's probably people who don't like it but want to get better at it for the quest lines and getting 100% etc. There needs to be a guide on how to win, what strategies work, deck building guides etc. I haven't looked for one but I wonder if such a thing exists.

A level 20 tree?? Didn't know trees could attack. I haven't played today since I'm waiting for the patch. I'm also usually too tired by the time I get home from work to play.

probably an earth elemental. I saw one once, and also ran like a little bitch. I found a place of power on top of a mountain, randomly, climbed down that hill after, and some tree walked out, 10 levels higher, and literally curb-stomped me from 30 paces away.

Reminds me I need to go back to that area and fight some of those.

How did you guys beat the howler monster? I am about four levels below it but it just destroys me. I can't even take a third of its health away.

Leshen's are basically walking trees.

I started a new game today and am skipping most of the side quests. I am not hunting every question mark on the map this time. I am doing the main quests and the contracts and any encounters with people offering quests as I go along. I actually found a few things along the way that I didn't see before since I did things in a different order. This time I went to the inn and the guards attacked me even after I offered to buy a round for them. Seems like there are more ways to do the same thing than I thought.

There are two ways to meet the bloody baron for example. The first time I didn't have to sneak in. I was let in by the guards because I never went to the inn to have the encounter with the soldiers.

So approaching 60hrs in, and I'd say if you have held off this long hold off longer. Basically:

- Engine is very well threaded CPU wise but Nvidia's Gameworks murders performance unless you have Maxwell or overcome it through sheer grunt. I doubt Nvidia's drivers will fix things for Kepler. Maybe the "Enhanced" edition. Yes you can turn options down but its ridiculous that unless you have the very latest and greatest nope.

- Newest driver did zero for my 780 Ti. Smoother maybe, FPS no. If anything with Afterburner game crashed out more frequently than previous with TEX exception/ulite (or something) errors. Unless the 390X is a failure this is the last time I'm buying Nvidia until they stop being dicks. Crippling Kepler and Gameworks put the final nail in the coffin.

- Multiple patches but bits still need refinement. Came across a quest with a missing letter, glitchy Roach/world especially coming out of water which the game randomly refuses or mounting Roach (not that way heh). Haven't run into the XP bug but game still needs polish. Animations outside of walking and running occasionally range from odd to broken.

- UI is console full screen rubbish. No section for letters. No section for contracts. No bestiary equivalent for herbs.

- Characters should have back story from previous witcher games in detail, not a wink and a nod that Geralt did something in the century plus he has been killing and screwing.

- Game needs rebalancing. Zero sense to come into Oxenfurt say and then get a contract 10 levels above. Or in Skellige. Or most other places. Yes there are some areas that are no-go until you level. It doesn't make any sense that the main story is levelled to you but contracts in the same area will kill you.

- Gold is next to useless. Add something to spend up. Seriously. I have 25K. If I was Geralt I'd buy both whorehouses in Novigrad and retire.

- Armour drops need adjustment. Fat lot of use armour I can use at Level 39 if I'm finding a diagram at Level 15. Gee how useful. Now lets wait a couple dozen hours.

- Skellige somehow doesn't fit in. Might just be me but going from war-torn Velen to random jarls is odd.

- Integration of previous games is poor just like saves from II. Game is geared for new console players.

Overall, its good but could be a whole lot better. And a lot of limitations I blame consoles as usual.

Strange. Most all the Kepler owners on Guru3D are giving extremely positive feedback for the 353.06 drivers. I've seen claims of up to 10 FPS for single cards, and up to 20 for SLI..

I would try doing a clean install for the drivers using DDU in safe mode, and reinstalling them.

I really have to recommend Gigabyte Overclock GURU II and use the minimum voltage offset to bump it even 0.012 or 0.025v to get overclocking stability. I got crashes every 1-2 hours with AB, and zero times in 10 hours after switching (with the newest drivers).

One of the most stable games I own with my 280x OC card, love the stability etc...

I just hope we get a patch out today since there are some nasty bugs I hear later on in the game and that's without the well known XP bug.

You know what is harder then that?....Playing bloody Gwent,I must of only won like three rounds out of 50+ ,so never won an actual game yet,so hard think I'll ignore all the gwent quests from now on,AI always has better or more cards then me,moot point I guess since I really miss the old dice game.

lol I have at least one gwent video of me winning; just takes a little practice and luck.

If you want I'll do a couple videos of gwent and upload them; win or loose First couple games I was like wtf; then slowly started to click what cards did what; when to play; making sure you don't run out of cards etc
