lol I have at least one gwent video of me winning; just takes a little practice and luck.

If you want I'll do a couple videos of gwent and upload them; win or loose First couple games I was like wtf; then slowly started to click what cards did what; when to play; making sure you don't run out of cards etc

There is a video I believe at their forums,I know the basics but when you lose ten games straight to same guy (after buying better cards from merchant and have barons one as well)you just give up with a lot of frustration and think why did I waste all that time.

I have pretty much given up on Gwent now and concentrating on my weapon and armour upgrades, just crafted the Witcher cat enhanced weapons which are not bad at my level 19.

Only problem is way overpowered now and still got quite a few main quests to do in Novigrad but avoiding due to the well known XP bug issue.

Leshen's are basically walking trees.

I started a new game today and am skipping most of the side quests. I am not hunting every question mark on the map this time. I am doing the main quests and the contracts and any encounters with people offering quests as I go along. I actually found a few things along the way that I didn't see before since I did things in a different order. This time I went to the inn and the guards attacked me even after I offered to buy a round for them. Seems like there are more ways to do the same thing than I thought.

There are two ways to meet the bloody baron for example. The first time I didn't have to sneak in. I was let in by the guards because I never went to the inn to have the encounter with the soldiers.
I'd be interested in knowing how long it takes you this time around. Most of the question marks I've found are monsters I can't take on yet. I still have quite a few of them in velen.

On a weird note, my horse disappeared at one point. I didn't have the x prompt to call him until after I finished a quest dealing with that peller and after it auto saved the prompt came back.

Little tip on weapons:Sometimes you don't know which one to use ie with some having critical damage ,hit bonus etc ..Anyway I was told to check your dps on the character inventory screen it gives you the stats when you have a weapon equipped.

probably an earth elemental. I saw one once, and also ran like a little bitch. I found a place of power on top of a mountain, randomly, climbed down that hill after, and some tree walked out, 10 levels higher, and literally curb-stomped me from 30 paces away.

Reminds me I need to go back to that area and fight some of those.

Heh, yeah I took on that same guy. He got aggro'd when I was taking on some wolves and I uh....did not last long. Tried to fight him alone but I just couldn't do any useful damage to him. Now I just run away from him.

Found an earth elemental out by some water, game wouldn't even tell me its level it just had ?? Marks, I tried but did effectively nothing to it. Maybe one day!

However being nearly level 11 now I took on the Griffin contract and was finally able to fight the wyvern successfully! I'm now decked out in Griffin gear from swords to boots:thumbsup:

So much loot on that contract trip! BTW, you can still fast travel if you are overburdened! Walked out of there 92/60, and sold it all off. Yes, I'm a loot addict.

I think I'm finally getting combat down took on like 20 pirates at once last night. Quite fun to just bounce from one to another knocking them down. Also, this game gets pretty graphic with the dismemberment. I blew up some bandits with a bomb which blew one guys legs off and his guts were spilling out and some others just lying around. D:

Still nearly 30 hours in and feels like I've hardly done anything. On 2 I'd be done or nearly done.

My one ui request, let me read things before I put them in my inventory, not only one extra step, its sometimes hard to find what I wanted to read.

Something that is driving me absolutely crazy is the lack of permanent markers in Novigrad. When you're close to an armorer or weaponsmith an icon will pop up and let you know you're close to it. But if you leave the area you need to find it all over again...wandering around town for 20mins looking for a weaponsmith is driving me nuts

+1

Even the merchants that you find randomly are not marked on the map...

Get the master armorer and blacksmith and you will always see them on the map, but then even regular ones show on the map for me.

Was there a patch released today?

nope not today

Man they need to release that patch. The XP thing is a serious bug, they should hotfix it.

I did hear tomorrow but that could change,I have a couple of grey quests in Novigrad about 8 levels below me so doing them since XP won't be an issue for those ones.

Forgive me if this has been answered, but I'm considering getting this and I'm curious if it's a good choice for me. I really tried to get into the Witcher 2 because of strong reviews, but I could never get into the combat system. Is the combat system in this more n00b-friendly (something more like Skyrim, which I loved, but recognized that it was far less hardcore as an RPG than something like the Witcher). Or am I just going to be turned off by the fact that I can't figure out how to kill anything and give up?

Also, I have an older machine, and while it beats minimum specs, I'm wondering if a GTX 680 is enough to really power this game with any eye candy whatsoever (I've heard that it doesn't run particularly well on Kepler GPUs)? I'll admit that I'm a bit of a graphics whore, but I'm willing to sacrifice max visuals when I know that isn't feasible. Still, I think if I'm limited to "Low" settings or substandard textures, I'd probably pass until I can afford a hardware upgrade.

I would say the combat is a bit more like the batman games. Your witcher 'powers' are accessed via a 'pause' menu and you can only access one at a time..so its not like 2 that I remember.

As for playability, I'm playing on high with no issues on a 480.

Is it a pause menu that you access during combat? Or do you have to predict what enemies you'll be encountering in advance?

Good to hear about the scalability for a 680.

Pause menu, and you can pick from any of them at will during a fight, but the pause is....more like extreme slo-mo..meaning if someone is attacking you, they don't stop completely

If you like Skyrim you should like this game

Combat is not too difficult. Basically just swing and roll/dodge. For your magic you just hold down a key and select what sign you want to use (the game slows down when you do this, so you won't get hit...unless someone is right on top of you). You can drink potions during combat also (which i think you couldn't do in witcher 2...could be wrong).

So like the GTA V weapon wheel? Basically enter a slow-mo which gives you a chance to equip something but doesn't stop time completely?

It doesn't. If you look, it's extreme slow motion. Probably running at 1% speed. If you take too long you can get hit
Hmm I guess I never noticed I'm always a good amount of space away from enemies. You will enjoy the game, its not difficult combat, you should be able to pick up on it after a few tries.

What about the thing with switching swords for different enemy types? I had a hell of a time with that in Witcher 2, although that's partially because it wasn't explained very well. Is that still a thing?

Geralt will take out the sword according to the enemy you are about to face. You can use 1 to select a steel sword for humans and 2 for a silver sword for monsters.

No need. In this game different enemies are vulnerable to different bomb types you can craft, different oils you can apply to your sword before combat, and different signs (like igni which is fire for example). This is all explained in the bestiary in the game and you get immediate access to the relevant entry once you discover the clues to the monster you're tracking.

For example. You accept a contract for an enemy in the woods. You talk to the guy who gave the contract and he tells you how people went missing but only one guy might have seen it. You talk to the guy who may have saw it and get some clues. Then you go examine the area of the attacks in the woods for clues. You may discover a dead body and look for what type of wounds there are etc. Then follow footprints to another body with more clues. Then maybe follow the scent of something odd to discover exactly what type of beast it is. At that point your bestiary updates with all the information you need on the monster's weaknesses so you can prepare the right potions and bombs before taking it on.

The silver sword is always for monsters and the steel sword is always for bandits, human enemies, and non-human enemies (bears, wolves etc). It will be drawn automatically when you enter combat. You can add runes to some swords that add things like critical hit chance, armor piercing, and the like.

It's exactly like that. It works that way for both your signs (magic) and your secondary weapon (crossbow, special item, or bomb type).

He will take out the correct sword automatically when he spots an enemy

It's not too hard to grasp though. Silver for monsters, steel for humans/animals.
