Uhmm.. MOST movies when the camera is in as close as it is here, the voices are as clear and strong as if you are standing right next to them.. because you are.

I don't agree at all. The camera wasn't on their face that close and it wouldn't have sounded like a studio room even if it was pretty tight. I use paradigm speakers and a Pioneer elite receiver with my PC setup, so maybe my setup more clearly represents the way it was recorded. It wasn't about the voices being strong and clear, it was about the surrounding influence on their voices. It wasn't natural to the area the characters were positioned. I admit, I am sensitive to audio in games, so it stuck out.

And I do not often notice large discrepancies in mid to high budget movies. They are normally very well edited.

They play on easy mode, easy mode is like skyrim you can breeze through the game real fast. Play on hardest mode for better enjoyment.

I've actually been doing side quests and exploring with most of my time. Though, I did do the witch part up until the bog--haven't started that yet, and just now finished the Baron part (really awesome that one).

I think much of my time has been spent forcing myself to beat down mobs well over my level--I found a camp of Niflgard deserters, with a few level 14 soldiers and a smattering of level 9s. I'm also still level 8--I probably spent an hour trying to clear those out. Got them down to 3 remaining level 14 soldiers, 2 with shields, and it was the first group I couldn't kill. The problem is that even with constant dodging and parrying, that level 14 sword guy, for some reason, still gets hits in when it seems like he shouldn't. He's constantly parrying off blows when it looks like his guard his down, and impossible to flank, so I just gave up.

I'm still rocking the Temerian light armor chest that you get from the very first merchant you meet (part of the free DLC) at level 4, I think. I'm digging the light armor/high crit setup

ok so I've run into the games first bitchboss, the werewolf (not the flashback). I am actually at level 8 and I can't beat his regen. Unfortunately I have to say this fight highlights all the flaws with the games fight mechanics. The game offers you many forms of evasions all with their positives and negatives, but this also means you have way to many key binds. I offloaded a few onto some extra mouse keys but seriously, anyone who uses alt and ctrl for "HOLD and.." should be flogged, dragged out to the street, and shot. Still everyone is pretty much in agreement that the witcher isn't the most responsive fighter out there, and yet the were wolf has fast run speeds and has no problem quickly turning and swiping at you right after you have dodged.

Anyways.. I can't help but think its the fact that so far I still have the viper silversword.. the very first upgrade. I have updated my steel sword like 5 times now, 4 of them from loot drops. Unfortunately it seems the only guides on the internet are for the viper sword, which seems kind of silly cause you kind of fall into it.

Well compared to what the last guy wrote the major problem with the werewolf was not his regeneration or him knocking you out with every hit but instead that he even gets knocked around somewhat he decides to constantly run away and he has far more speed and reflexes than you do at all.

Anyone get to Skellege island yet? I'm there now but I was wondering at what point (or where) I get the Bear School gear treasure hunt quest. Just hit lv32 and was wondering if I can get better gear than what I have which consists of a full set of superior cat school gear. Doing the master armorer quest line and hopefully it leads to some good armor.

Hmm, I just found a chest in some random monster cave, in Velen, with a full set of schematics for Witcher school superior Ursine gear. Wouldn't that be the same stuff, or do the specific quests unlock a different set of gear?

I got insanely frustrated with that guy (if you look a few pages back), but I never really had a problem avoiding him, it was avoiding him while staying in close to do enough damage to overwhelm his regen.

Anyway, you basically have two options to deal with him:

  • Stay in close using thunderbolt and strong attacks as much as you can. Keep up quen as much as possible, use igni the rest of the time. It's difficult but you'll just have to keep trying until you manage to do enough damage without dying.
  • Put off the fight until you find moon dust bombs and/or cursed oil. Moon dust definitely stops his regen, I'm not sure if the oil does as well, or just increases your damage. I don't think I found either of these until a good while later, however.

All of the "Superior ____" schematics are upgrades for gear that you get through quests. So you have to find the quest gear and craft it first.

I want to like this game because it seems like a terrific RPG... but I SUCK at it. I don't play these types of games often so I'm not afraid to admit that I can't even beat the griffin lol. I use thunderbolt and the shield sign to protect myself but the thing just kills me every time. I try to stay behind it and roll out of the way of its attacks but i guess I'm just witchering wrong.

Also, this game looks beautiful...

I finally got a chance to sit down and play this game last night. It took me some time to beat the griffin on level 2. I suck at these type of games with a keyboard/mouse, but still prefer it over Skyrim's combat model.

You can't just forge in and attack, you have to attack a few times and roll away.

As for how it looks - while I am not really a fan of the overall art direction, it does look great. Even the wife mentioned how great it looked (and she doesn't normally comment).

I just got full Griffin armor and the weapons at lvl 9. Nice upgrades. How are people in their 30's already? Takes a while to lvl for me.

I guess I'll have to give it another shot later. I don't have too much time to play games anymore so getting stuck usually means quitting. I feel like this game deserves some of my time though, so I'll just try to grind as long as I can haha.

You say fast but how many hours are you in? I am closing in on 50+ hours since launch.

There is griffen, viper, cat, and bear as far as I know. Viper is the lowest tier and bear is highest

You don't need the base gear if you happen across superior versions. I hadn't gotten all the cat school base gear but I had a full set of superior cat school.

What level are you? Do some side quests and explore all the ?. I was level 3.5 when I beat him. You use the cross bow when he is in the air then go in for attacks with the sword. Use quen every chance you get. I didn't bother with thunderbolt.

Ah, that makes sense. each recipe requires enhanced version of ___ gear, so I was wondering where those come from.

I seem to get about 40-50 fps on high settings and around 40-48 on all ultra except hairworks on and sometimes lower in certain areas.

How have you put in 50+ hours? That's like working a second job.

Remember when I was playing destiny and how many hours I put into that? Same idea. When I don't have plans or anything to work on, I play the game.

After work every day 4:00pm - midnight I'm on the game. Nearly every day. This Friday I was home at 3:00 and played until Saturday morning at 10:00AM. Pretty much my schedule this past week for gaming.

The base, enhanced, and superior are all separate. You can craft superior without crafting the base of you want but the level difference is huge. I don't remember off hand if the enhanced and superior replace the lower towers as you find them or not though. The only think I will say for certain is that you will find them as separate treasure hunt quests and you do not need to complete the first one to get the upgraded version.

Yeah, just practice. It's no longer the kind of game I play all the time, so I'm spending an inordinate amount of time just finding enemies above my level, saving, and then getting practice in (2nd highest difficulty). After awhile, you should get used to seeing most enemies start moving away, start attack animations, etc., and get a feel for it, leading to responding by reflex.

Back in college, this would be nothing. But, back then, I could hang with pro FPS players without embarrassing myself, even getting some kills in on them .
