I want to like this game because it seems like a terrific RPG... but I SUCK at it. I don't play these types of games often so I'm not afraid to admit that I can't even beat the griffin lol. I use thunderbolt and the shield sign to protect myself but the thing just kills me every time. I try to stay behind it and roll out of the way of its attacks but i guess I'm just witchering wrong.

Also, this game looks beautiful...

You can always level up and try later or get better gear, remember potions help as well like swallow.

Btw if it makes you feel better I got my ass kicked by the Jenny of the woods quest( nightwraith),I'm actually level 11 now and she is level 10 recommended but she is way too powerful for me even with my Griffin gear/weapons all on and potions,I can't even get her health down 60% let alone kill her.

Yes some quests can be frustrating especially if you not one of those players that don't play on hard but still struggle even with the lower settings.

My advice come back later.

As to mine I'll finished it later once I level up more, not got the patience to try it 20x lol,if it takes more then four attempts I leave it until much later.
Jenny of the woods quest needs rebalancing for sure, hardest fight for me so far, even some level 12,13 mobs were easier.
I'm well over 50 so not got the patience to keep fighting over and over the same mob that kills me(especially lower level mob),I play RPGs for the story and exploring.

Update: finally killed her but had to use a guide online.

The base, enhanced, and superior are all separate. You can craft superior without crafting the base of you want but the level difference is huge. I don't remember off hand if the enhanced and superior replace the lower towers as you find them or not though. The only think I will say for certain is that you will find them as separate treasure hunt quests and you do not need to complete the first one to get the upgraded version.

How so? the recipes for the superior set that I found each require the enhanced version of each piece. Or are you saying that you don't need the normal versions to craft the enhanced?

I had the superior set for cat school without getting the base set in full. I could craft the superior set. I did have the enhanced first but I didn't get the base set in full yet.

Just got to that werewolf quest. Ugh he's annoying and I'm only level 4 still. Did a few side quests as many as I could find but I'm still not leveling up much.

Can someone explain Triss Merigold's behavior to me? There seems to be some disconnect between TW2 and TW3 (I carried over my save). TW2 spoilers:

What I remember from TW2 (which I only played about a week ago, but my memory is shot) is that she and Geralt were super friendly, and banged in that cave under the garden. Then she got abducted by that meathead witcher, and a good portion of the quest was trying to track her down. Then Geralt finally found her in the aftermath of the purge at that city and the game ended.

So why in TW3 is she acting all distant like she had fallen out with Geralt in some way?

I was kind of lost too with that bit. I have no real idea why they act so distant.

Bout to start it up for the first time.

Does the game drop you in the open world right away?

Where's a good area to benchmark settings?

The first area after training section is pretty much open world. Benchmarks I guess will vary on sections of the country. I had higher fps in the first area compared to the second.

You are limited to the first area until you finish the main quest in that area. You can finish it in probably an hour, or spend as many as 6-8 hours in that area (although you can revisit it after entering the main world).

This game is just huge, and more importantly, the world is packed with things to do. The side quests are the best I've ever played in a game....the work that must have gone into this must be immense. As for the graphics, downgraded or not, they are still the best in the business RPG wise.

How have you put in 50+ hours? That's like working a second job.

Not everyone is a full time wage slave. :whiste:

That Jenny of the Woods you need to use Yrden to trap her and then whack her whilst on the the Thunderbolt potion. Was difficult but doable. For the armour, Bear is heavy, Griffin is medium and Cat is light. Geralt moves slower and uses more stamina in heavy armour. It also seems Witcher armour degrades slower (maker sure your armour and weapons are close to 100%!). You need to prioritise the armour stats or armour overall protection. I had Nilfgaard heavy armour that had LESS protection than light armour overall but provided 15% more protection against slashing/bludgeoning (or something). So a 15% hit in damage but that light armour had +20 overall. With swords don't hesitate swapping out - Level 12 or so and the silver sword cracks 200 damage. Keep an eye out for any and all diagrams. Cracking 25hrs in, apart from that one glitchy "crash" no issues.

The in-game 30fps vsync feels like garbage.

If you have an Nvidia card, disable the in-game vsync and set framerate to unlimited.

In the control panel enabled Adaptive V-Sync (half refresh) and set Max Pre-rendered frames to 1. It's a much smoother 30fps lock. Then you can go wild with image quality settings and still have a better framerate than console versions.

My GPU goes nuts when I do an extreme close up on Geralts hair with hairworx enabled

not sure if a bug or not, it sure doesnt look pretty enough to justify the sudden 99% gpu usage

I dont think anyone here is looking to vsynch at 30. also hairworks is just more tesselation, it will vary its poly count to your gpu levels.

It's funny I killed a level 15 nightwraith and that was easier then "Jenny of the Woods " one(level 10 recommended) so it does need rebalancing, yes I killed her the right way.

I have 26 hours so far into this game and still got so much to do in Velen(second area) at level 12,had to run away from a few mobs ie level 25 and one hag that was so high had no level number but was virtually one hit instant death,so exploring is fun and can be very dangerous.

Btw I avoid heavy armour, too much weight and want speed of movement, luckily there is no shortage of good light and medium armour around.

I'll say I feel they designed this game for gamepad, mouse and keyboard is not bad ,but you really run out of buttons on mouse and end up having to use keyboard for a few main functions, for example strong attack is not even keyed by default on m/k.

I'm old school Witcher fan ,played them all many times.

Having a great time with the game- a few crashes only - i5 2500K with a 290. One thing is frustrating to me is that you fight your way through a monster(s) or mob only to come to a door that is locked. argggg...

Finally be able to play again over the weekend. I love how you can do quests higher that your level. I am only level 7 now, but did the master weapon smith unlock quest and did part of the quest in Novigrad to be able to get to the +100 saddlebags.

The latest patch was suppose to fix the escaping out of inventory issue but still seem to have that for me.

I reworked my settings to see the difference between High and Ultra. When stationary, I can't see the difference so imagine when you move. So I put everything on High, Sharpening on Low, V-Sync/60fps lock, Blur/DoF OFF, 1080p. Game runs smooth as butter and still look beautiful.

I'm really pleased on the setting options and the performances of the game. Gonna try to DSR this puppy to 4k tonight.
