Yeah, I really liked it. I know there are some that are nit picking it for no good reason other than because they can. But having read all the books and played all four games multiple times, I am really enjoying it.
Finished Season 2 and I feel the story stands on its own quite well, but deviates too much from the source material for my liking. I understand the complaints as its the books and games that brought fans to the show.
The Voleth Meir demon is totally a new creation and is unnecessary as the books have plenty of monsters and politics. We don't need a new villain. I also don't like the "it feeds on hate" motif as Star Wars already did that "hate leads to the darkside" and its overused. In the end we find out the demon is part of the Wild Hunt, yet in the books and games the Wild Hunt are elves from another sphere, not demons.
- Biggest issue is that the show's creator is whoring his series out with little regard to its integrity. He's in it for the money, and I don't blame him one bit, but he's no George Lucas: holding on tightly to his creation and only allowing his ultimate vision to come through.
If Disney could completely crash and burn on a $4 billion dollar franchise like Star Wars for not understanding what fans are looking for, I don't hold out hopes for Netflix doing much better with The Witcher.
As a filthy casual myself I am sort of mentally approaching it the same way I would something like Star Wars: The books, the show, and the games are all just different narratives told by different (or the same) unreliable narrator (like they're all songs from Dandelion/Jaskier). The story is getting tweeked by the teller for maximum dramatic effect.

Actually, the showrunner for the Witcher Netflix series is a lady.
- Right, but the author and owner of The Witcher IP is a man, who is the person I am referencing in my post. I mucked it up a bit by referencing "the show's creator" but what I really meant was the creator of the IP and the universe of the Witcher, who could ultimately have a ton of say in how his property is managed but honestly just does not seem to care so long as he gets paid.
This is making it really, really, really difficult not to fire up W3.
Busy watching second series. My wife and daughter say it follows the books very well. They both read them in the original Polish. I assume you read the English. In central Europe Witcher has a cult following. It is mostly all new to me.Finished Season 2 and I feel the story stands on its own quite well, but deviates too much from the source material for my liking. Witcher season 3 is coming this Summer! Unfortunately Henry's last season too. Don't understand why he is leaving because no one else can play Geralt better than him?
The YouTube comments are really telling on how audiences are going to be taking this season and next.Witcher season 3 is coming this Summer! Unfortunately Henry's last season too. Don't understand why he is leaving because no one else can play Geralt better than him?

From my understanding, Cavill kept pushing the writers to remain true to the books and they didn't want to which created conflict. This is the first I've heard about The Rock influencing anything in regards to The Witcher. He's getting kicked off.
Its all the Rock's fault.

I'm not really upset that Henry is leaving. For me, the most perfect witch is in the game. I wonder who they'll replace him with?

I've been hoping for years that they take a more creative approach by expanding the lore of one of the other Witchers like Lambert or Eskel or even creating their own from a different school. However, after playing Cyberpunk, I honestly don't think they have the right creative minds to create any functional lore in the Witcher universe without heavily relying on outside sources. At least with the three games they had the books and Andrzej Sapkowski to consult for everything but I seem to recall he said he was done working with CDPR after The Wild Hunt was released. I hope I'm wrong because I'd love to see more Witcher games in the future but I just don't see it happening.I believe the next game will take a "make your own Witcher" approach with a character builder etc given with CDPR did with Cyberpunk and the fact that Geralt's story is done after W3.
Well, I think it's not such a bad idea, if you can create your own character. Although, as usually happens, the idea may be good, but the execution.... not so much)- I believe the next game will take a "make your own Witcher" approach with a character builder etc given with CDPR did with Cyberpunk and the fact that Geralt's story is done after W3.
Character will likely be a new creation from whole cloth, not a prexisting character from Witcher lore if I had to guess.
