interesting. If you look beyond the details, some of it seems similar to what we have. Some is way off, like all the flying....everything seems to be flying.

Exact technology is hard to predict 20 years into the future, and 100 years even harder, especially given the amount of technological development during the last century. While the methods and tech predicted seem funny, they were right to some extent about globalization and the pervasiveness of consumer technologies. Affordable/quick global travel, telepresence, synthetic food, robotics, etc. were all predicted a long time ago and just recently (relatively speaking) have become realities.

"At School" - The book shredding is a little scary in terms of modern-day censorship, although that's not the artist's intention here.

The "Cars of War" and "Electric Train" are definitely reality.

Some of the predictions here are pretty amusing. My favorite is "Exercise will be compulsory in schools." (Under "Everybody will Walk Ten Miles")

Wow...interesting find. It really is amazing to see how past generations viewed our time in the future.

Edit: Anyone remember the show a while back called "Beyond 2000"? Even 10-15yr out is pretty insane.

Yeah, I remember Beyond 2000. There was another show on the Discovery Channel that also tried to show marvels of the future, but I can't remember the name...

"He will live fifty years instead of thirty-five as at present - for he will reside in the suburbs."

Wow, can you imagine having a 35 year lifespan expectation?

We will be able to telephone to China quite as readily as we now talk from New York to Brooklyn. By an automatic signal they will connect to any circuit within their locality without the intervention of a "hello girl."

FuzzyBabyBunny can haz Hello Girl?

I'm sure you could look at the rate of growth in certain technologies and get some sort of an estimate. It would be harder to predict new things - such as computers - back in 1910.

Exactly. Given a polynomial best fit curve and data on the length of nanotubes produced to date, I could probably give you a rough estimate for how long the longest commercially available single walled nanotube will be in the 2050's, but I probably couldn't predict when we'll invent an FTL drive.

I liked how they had an automated barber, yet the book shredder is kid-powered
