Thermalpaste

Building a new unit with X2 3800 and might overclock in the future but not sure yet.

I was gonna get the XP 120 based on people's opinions and reviews.

Question is should I get thermal paste with it? I have never gotten a nice heatsink before, just used factor included heatsink and fan.

I read that it lowered the temp by 5 degrees or so for one person. Is this consistent with what others get?

Yeah, grab some arctic silver 5, and only put a very small amount on. Theres a lot of how-to's on it - just search google. The key is not to use too much. VERY important.

Don't even think about not using thermal paste. Those 5 degrees are compared to the paste that originally came with the heatsink. Not using thermal paste is more than likely to cause your CPU to overheat.

Third opinion: Don't skip the thermal paste! Important ~$10 investment.

more like $5 or $6... don't get stingy, it's a super easy way to keep cooler

no thermal paste = burned X2 3800 = sad brbdc.

In conclusion, get thermal paste. Id say at least Arctic Silver Ceramiqué (my choice goop)

I've aways heard thing about Artic Silver, myself; not to say that there aren't other good thermal pastes out there, but that's the one I hear mentioned most frequently.

AS Ceramique. About 1C less efficient than AS 5 but easier to clean up.

Also the picture guides on the artic silver site is all you need...enjoy
