Thermalright SK-7 question please

I just bought an SK-7 and plan on putting it onto an MSI-K7N2G-ILSR. The possible problem is that the motherboard came with no mounting holes to give extra support for a heatsink and the SK-7 weighs in at 485g without a fan. Will the socket on the board be able to hold that much weight or am I in for an adventure. I would appreciate any input on this matter before I start lapping the heatsink just in case a return is inorder. Thanks very much.

Well since the SK-7 doesn't use the mounting holes why are you worried about them? If the heatsink was heavy enough to snap off the socket lugs, you can be assured that a company with Thermalright's reputation would never have brought the product to market. That being said, I would definately remove the SK-7 during transport.

The heatsink is a bit heavier than AMD's recommendation, but it also grips six lugs instead of two. I wouldn't worry about it, and I've got one myself. Besides, as you can see, the majority of the mass is in the base, so it's not like it's hung way out there where it has a lot of leverage to fight against the clip.
