I was considering to buy a thermaltake volcano 12
Is it a good value for money cooling solution?
does anyone know about another good fan?

Most people on this forum dislike Thermaltake as they are usually more about looks than performance. The Volcano 12 is an example of this. It is a pretty poor HSF unit.

The Thermaltake Silent Boost seems to be their most popular product recently but some people will still advise against Thermaltake.

If you have confidence, you might want to opt for a Thermalright Heatsink such as the SLK900 and use a fan such as an 80mm Panaflo L1A to keep it cool and very very quiet.

Volcano 12 uses the same heatsink as Silent boost and performs great, as good as SLK800 if not better.
Thermaltake was much worse in the past but new products work very well.

Elcs, I believe you're talking about Volcano 11, not 12, which was quite poor. Volcano 12 performs really well.

I read some reviews and tests on the volcano 12 and it performed really good
but some reviews may be biased and so I posted a message
I think I ll go with the volcano 12 then
and you are right there is a great difference between the volcano 11 and 12

Get a Thermalright SLK-900A/U and a nice silent fan and some AS5, you won't regret it.

The Volcano 12 seems to be a really good cooler, but it's true it very noisy at top speed, thermaltake at least now has very good products in the market, i'm buying a silent boost next week

I just bought one and it seems to be working great - although I've yet to do any serious overclocking!!!

I got the Volcano 12 and I'm very satisified with it. I don't give a *** about the looks as my case is closed anyways and I don't have a side window. But I like the two potentiometers (?) that come aloing with it and it surely is a great performer. I think that the this special TT HS and a TR 900/800 are about to be equal.

Probably. I stopped counting after my Volcano 7+.

Thermalright is still the way to go in my opinion. Ive only had my SLK-900A and Im totally happy. I can overclock to the same level as my V7+ on low speed and with this 80mm panaflo l1a, it pretty much equals the V7+ on medium. Might also have to do with AS3 -> AS5 but its all good if the temps are lower

I can run my xp2600 at stock speeds with the silent boost and no fun, temparature woun't get higher then 53. I installed a fan controler to run it silent, just a little bit of air blowing at it. System is running at 2250 right now, 49 degrees at full load.

Ya know, you guys with the insane overclocking make me ill!!! lol, just kidding....only say that because I recently bought an Althlon XP2500+(333 FSB) and couldn't even get the FSB above 185Mhz. Being new to all this probably had something to do with it....
I think that there are only two of us in these forums who haven't been able to get an Athlon XP2500+ 333Mhz at the 200Mhz FSB!!!!!

I use the Volcano 11, had the Silent Pro before. I like the 11 alot more, it performs much better. It is a good thing I have a set of headphones for gaming though, on top throttle this thing is very loud, is the 12 any quieter?

It's more or less as loud, but you can run it @2800rpm with better performance than your V11 @4800, so it lasts being much quiter.
