ok... So I just saw this commercial about not smoking, blah blah blah... At the end, the little fine print at the bottom says, "Philip Morris USA"

WTF? Why is Philip Morris paying for commercials against smoking? Especially when it had teenagers between like 13-18 in it...

Even though they say it's not cool to smoke in those lame commercials (c'mon, if I smoked which I'm glad I don't, those lame ass ads sure wouldn't make me change my mind)

They're just still targeting teens. They've moved to magazine advertisements. They're using these "don't smoke" to still get the thought of smoking into you're head.

It's all a bunch of BS to get kids to smoke still.

Those commercials rock - my smoker buddies and I always laugh our collective asses off when we see those. Every time I see those Truth ads I want to put my boot in the TV though, they're REALLY annoying.

How exactly do Phillip Morris / RJR fund those ads? I mean do they donate to a group advertising fund, give someone money to make them, or make them themselves?

Yeah I find it funny that we have the major tobacco companies making ads like that.. it make sense that they're forced to. It's a bit like forcing Intel to say how horrible the P4 is in their blueman group commercials.

Toronto just passed a smoke free legislation on pretty much all retail and office buildings (except for bars/clubs). In some places that use to be densely filled with smoke, you can actually see across the room with clarity now... it's amazing! Best part is, restaurants are allowed to have a sealed and well ventilated area for smokers. I look in from outside the sealed smoking section and all I see is a blur of people moving around. Makes me wonder why they choose to live a life like that....

but I guess, to each his/her own.

Best thing New York did was pass their smoking laws. Now I don't have to get exposed to people's smoke.
Interestingly enough though when we were in San Fran last month every time we'd say 2, no smoking, they'd look at us strange. Finally someone explained that there was no smoking allowed in restaurants. Was fine by me.

Been like this in Kitchener for a while, INCLUDING bars. No smoke in any public places. Hell, you can even get fined for smoking in a bus stop and those things are practically wide open.

Smoking is no big deal...studies have shown that living in L.A. or other similiar major cities and breathing the air is equivalent to smoking a pack a day....no one freaked at that finding.

Yet light up one cigarette 15ft from someone and &quot;Oh my God!&quot; they are going to get lung cancer on the spot and die.

What about all the fat people, sorry...the word is &quot;FAT&quot;, overweight is too kind (in the U.S. especially). Medical data has demonstrated that being as little as 25lbs overweight your entire life can reduce your life span by five to fifteen years. Yet I still see people tipping 3 bills in Burger King throwing back the food like freakin swine...no self control.

Obesity is a far worse problem in our country than smoking, drinking, or dare I say AID's.

I'm being kinda harsh cause I myself have to battle not being FAT these days...doing pretty good right now but need to keep it up...

Better yet go to an all you can eat buffet. A favorite story a friend of mine went to one of these things and this fat lady (I use the term unkindly) had her daughter running back and forth to the buffet for her. After a mongo dinner the kid goes and gets her and her mom ice cream cones and returns with them. Her mom, upon seeing that she only got her a single scoop cone sent the daughter back and while she was gone ate hers AND ate the little girls' cone. My friend sat there in horrified shock at the scene.

I said yep, thats the food trough for ya!
