Thinking of buying a PS4

The PS4 is hardly new. It's well established, and has a great category of games. If you have a 4K tv, the pro lets you play in 4K today. Waiting a year for the PS5 will mean either waiting in line for hours, or praying you can get one online. If you
do manage to score a PS5, you will have privilege to play the one or maybe two games worth playing on day one.

I haven't played a new PS game since the earliest days of the PS3. ...there would be tons of new games for me on the day that a PS5 is released.

Life is too short, get a PS4 pro, and enjoy it today.

I've got a PC that I built last year that is relatively close to what the PS5 will be in performance, so I'm cool. Obviously, going more than 10 years between console updates (I do have a Switch for some reason, but I've played it about 3 times in the last 6 months, lol) means 1 year makes no difference for me.

....more thoughtful consideration of those last statements makes me wonder why I would want a console in the first place, haha!

Same here wii & PS3 totally broke me of consoles. Haven’t looked back either.
wii was fun for a very limited time and only for 2 or 3 games.
PS3 was such a disappointment I picked it up early on because my wife & I had so much fun with the PS1 & PS2. I never bought a game for it, I tried the online thing Sony offered tried a few games out and they were either all shooters which are horrendous using a controller (IMO) or really dumb games for kids.

I agree with you, but you are not the norm. PC gaming is still a niche thing, even though it's been around for decades. Console gaming is where it's at, just ask a developer. This year has been better, but most PC games are console ports.

Now as far you having tons of new games for you to play when a PS5 is released, I'm going to wait and see. They said the same thing when the PS4 was released. Yes, you had some PS3 games that would play on a PS4, but it was no where near the whole catalog. It was in fact a very small list, IMO. It may have improved over time, but I stopped looking.

As for why you would want a console, I can't answer that. I bought a PS3 because my nephew wanted one so he could play with his friends. I bought one for him, and a bit later, one for me. He lived beneath me, and would come up to play once he was done with his homework. He just started college, and took the PC I build for him a couple of years ago. He left his PS4 home.

If there are games you want to play on a console, buy it.

Games though...PlayStation has a lot of nice exclusives. Obviously if you are rocking a high end pc you will be fine for all the Microsoft titles and anything multi platform.

I just saw some leak claiming Walmart will have the PS4 Slim for $149 and the PS4 Pro for $299 on Black Friday. No idea how legit the source is though.

That’s not terrible either for someone who never bought into the ps4. The best 3 games this gen IMO come with it.

Great games for sure, but only God of War would crack my top 3 PS4 exclusives.

1. Bloodborne
2. Persona 5
3. God of War.

Though that says more about how great a system the PS4 has been, as TLOU and Horizon are both incredible. PS4 is probably the second best console I have seen in my lifetime, edging out SNES but still behind PS2 when it comes to game quality.

TLOU is a PS3 game. Part 2 I'm sure will be fantastic though.

I would not get a non-pro version myself as well. PSVR is so cheap now too that you can get a full setup for under $500 easily with some fantastic games.

The PS5 wont be out until 11-2020. That's too long to wait, get the PS4 pro, and enjoy 4K now.

Agreed, especially because after ps5 launch it will be several years until the games catalog is big enough to warrant the investment in the system. I always buy the consoles at their end of life now for cheap when the games are all out, and also cheaper. I just jumped on a ps4 pro during black friday sale.
