This is strange!

My computer will be movin' along just fine, then I suddenly get what I'll call a mini-lockup. The cursor will move but that's all. Nothing will open or close for maybe 5 to 10 sec. Then I hear a slight "tick" in my tower and everything runs fine! you guys got any ideas?

Same here, whenever I open a small program like outlook express, my mp3s or mouse skips, and i have 256 megs of RAM

I have nfi what could cause that, but out of interest, what type of mice are you guys using?

Im guessing USB, but we'll see how i go

I used to have this problem on my old maxtor 13 gig, and run into it from time to time on my 75gxp. It happens when i open a program that like MS office's word, or some other program i dont use too often. I dont know what the problem is, but i think it might be the HD powering up or spinning up or something.... I think the HD goes to a low-power state after i loadup winamp, AIM, IE, etc... into RAM and i only browse the net. Am i right? anyone find a solution for it?

Sounds like you have your hard drives shut down for power savings.

Turn all that power management crap off in the bios and the OS.

You can hear the Hd's spin up after the "tick", but no power saving setup is loaded.

That is most definitely the OS waiting for the HDD to spin up. Power saving is set somewhere.
