Ive recently reinstalled windows (and lost 120gb of data in the process, but thats a diff story), and I am having trouble getting both my C drive working and my storage (I:\) drive at the same time. Heres the deal:
drive c is an old 10 gb maxtor drive i is an ibm 120gxp i recently formatted.
C: is primary, I: is slave, on teh same ide cable.

When I plug C: drive in alone it works, in both connectors of the cable

Same for I:\, when its alone, in both connectors on the cable.

Now heres whats weird: when theyre both together on the same cable, only the C: drive is detected.

how can i get them both up without rearranging my case?

note: cable select didnt do anything for me either

A bit weird. I would put the drives on seperate busses. Or make sure BOTH drives are cable select, or make sure system drive (the one with OS) is manually set to master. Wouldn't want other drive thinking it's in charge, now would we?

Thats the thing, im POSITIVE that the windows drive is set to master...I went as far as to check maxtors site, and surely enough it was how ive been setting it. As for separate busses, well that wouldnt be a problem except the fact that I have that one chieftec case with the side window (the one everyone else in the world has), and the space between the master and slave connector on an ide cable just isnt long enough for me to run it from a cdrom drive all the way down to the 3.5" hd bays .

are u 100% sure the other drive is set to slave?
Does the storage work if you put it on the other bus?

Yes. The ibm is set to slave, as the diagrams on the back say. When put by itself on ide1 or with a cd drive on ide2 it does work...but that just cant work in my case.

Definately odd. Last thing I can think of to check.. Make sure the master is on the END of the IDE cable, not the middle.
I'm sorry if that doesn't fix it. Sounds like the only option that works, is your only option. Unless you wanna buy an PCI IDE controller, which will give you 2 more busses (for 4 devices).

While that is an option, this drive should be working and I am not paying more money just so it can do its job, I am going to call IBM about an RMA.
