This rig runs too hot!

I recently built a rig with a Q9450 w/ Vendetta 2, and two 8800GTS 512s, on a 750i FTW board by EVGA with 4 gigs of 1066 RAM distributed across 4 DIMMS, all powered by the OP850 Silverstone PSU. The problem I have been having is how hot my room gets when this thing is on. It's getting the room so hot, my AC isn't keeping up, with normal temperatures usually of low 70s going to the 80s. Anyone know a way to make this beast run cooler? The CPU is OC'd to 3.2 with a 1600 FSB, but thats without a voltage increase. The GPUs are all at stock. The case is the Thermaltake Armor+.

A customer for the computer store i work at told me a similar story. His solution was to take air in and out of drier exhaust tubes in his house. Basically, the computer took air in and out from a window. That way he wasnt venting his AC out doors, and the heat wasnt coming in doors.

To answer your question more directly, you might have to resort to liquid cooling in order to make your rig run cooler.

Drier Exhaust Tubing? I would think that any tubing would run the risk of heat buildup, but do you have a link to such a product?

I live in a very warm place and cooling costs are going to be outrageously expensive from now on. I, too, have considered doing such a thing. There's no reason why it shouldn't work.

Nearly ten years ago, I had SLI Voodoo 2 video cards. They ran so hot they made the top of the tower case too warm to touch. Another reason why I'd never do SLI again.

Sorry. I miss spelled that. It was Dryer, and by that i mean for laundry. The tube expells hot steam from a washer/dryer, i dont see a reason it wouldnt work for you too. It can be obtained any where they sell appliances i would imagine. Home Depot or Lowes. The guy i talked to said he used screen to keep bugs and birds out. I wouldnt worry too much about heat build up. Dryers kick out a lot of heat. Worse comes to worse, case fans would probably help to assist what youre attempting. Just put the fans at the mouths of the exahaust tubeing.

yikes to cut a hole in the wall. I say just invest in a better cooling case. I have a coolermaster and it runs whisper quiet with 7 silent fans and get great air flow through the case. I'd also suggest in a 50-70 dollar cpu heatsink. I dont think you have to resort to liquid cooling it just takes a more refined interior case setup to make sure you get enough airflow.

yes, better air flow helps computer cool down but op is complaining his room temp due to the computer, so better air flow in the room instead of computer is more important in this case.

You guys just don't get it.
His cooling system is working so well that his room is heating up.

turn up the AC? I mean maybe open a window? There's no real conventional way to fix that. I wouldn't suggest opening a hole in the wall...

Exactly. Unless there's something I'm missing, no adjustment to his computer's internal cooling will change the total amount of heat moving from his processor and video cards into the room.

There are two ways to fix the problem:

(1) Use A/C.

(2) Remove the room from the equation via the dryer tube method mentioned, or something similar. Personally, if my computer generated so much heat that I had to resort to that, I would build a cooler-running computer.

That's why I'm so happy to see how little energy the Intel Core 2 Duo chips consume. It doesn't really affect folks who live in cooler climates, since the heat generated replaces other heating forms (your furnace), but in a warm place, where you can't open up the window, you pay a double penalty. You pay to run the computer, and you pay again remove the heat from the room (via Air Conditioning).

This summer, I'm going to dump all my P4 servers and switch them to C2D boxes. It's amazing how much heat two or three servers puts out.
