Thoughts on large phone.

3 days with the G Pro was enough to know I'll never own another phablet.

I need to be able to quickly and easily use my phone with one hand. I also do have some pants with smaller pockets. Nothing too wide is going to fit.

I don't want to use a belt clip or arm band. Going to the gym or a long walk on the beach with a huge phone isn't going to happen otherwise.

When I'm using my Moto X I don't feel I'm missing out on a larger screen. I can easily navigate all 4 corners. It's an enjoyable browsing size. I can respond quickly to emails/texts with one hand.

I understand the popularity of phablets but like laptops and tablets one size does not fit all.

Not only is it not easy to do, but I have never met anyone that pulled that off and still had full digitizer functionality. It is kinda a baby and bathwater type deal.

It's actually not hard at all (although I don't recommend anyone crack their screen and have to find out. Just treat the phone right and most people will never have the problem.)

I replaced a SGS3 screen and was surprised how relatively easy it is with the right tools and prep. I used a heat gun (not a hair dryer as some people attempt) and applied constant upward pressure with a suction cup from a screen replacement kit, and the shattered outer glass lifted straight off the LCD. The glue between the two feels like that stuff that sticks credit cards into mailers- no match for a little heat gun action, it gives up long before the phone parts will.

There's virtually no reason other than total carelessness to damage the LCD below the glass- it's literally like a small desktop monitor, it's not going to scratch and certainly not break unless someone is just scraping away at it like a madman for some reason, applying ridiculous force, heat in one spot for a long period, or if whatever cracked the outer screen was actually forceful enough to damage the LCD or other vital component underneath. (Would take one hell of a drop, IMO).

My first thought actually on seeing an S3 revealed like this was: "Heck, why not just use the actual LCD screen bare, without the outer glass in the first place? if someone made a replacement frame with no glass in it, I would actually consider it- it'd just be a matte LCD screen rather than a glossy layer over it. The glass is really just a first line of defense (plus it also makes the frame and screen perfectly flush) but it can absolutely be separated from the LCD with no damage what-so-ever to the LCD- quite easily in fact.

Again- not that I recommend anyone finding any of this out the hard way.

Replacing with a brand new undamaged glass front was as easy as attaching the button sensors at the bottom (used like hinges) then laying the glass down, pressing it down firmly, and re-heating the glue for a few seconds. When I was done, the S3 looked good as new, touch screen functioned perfectly.

The process did not change. Its the same for S2, S3, S4, S5, any of the Note series, iPhones, LG phones, HTC, Motorola. LOCA is LOCA is LOCA is LOCA.

Heat up the glass to ~90F, let it set, run wire through, pull off glass. The only real challenge is finding the right glue remover to clean the LCD. Acetone works but it can do damage. I made my own little mix that works pretty well.

Really? I always thought it was a front pocket kind of thing, since if you sit on it it might break.

I feel the bigger phones lend better to girls who have a purse setup. My iPhone leaves a block shape in my front pocket, and I certainly don't wear skinny jeans. So I'd never go bigger, that's purely my experience though. Having both a tablet and iPhone though, I don't see that much room for a middle device.
