Interesting...I can get mine to 4.2, after that, motherboard power delivery becomes an issue. Disabling 4 cores gets me 4.3. 4.4 boots, but freezes once you get to the desktop.
Yes for 4.2. 4.3 now throttles (in prime95 only) with the current beta BIOS release. Previously 4.2 throttled, neither were/are an issue with the CPU, but rather, the motherboard. I've seen a few hit 4.4@1.4375 without issue...though a hard wall exists beyond that. Also, my Enermax can't deal with 4.1 or 4.2 all that well, let alone 4.3, so I typically run at 4.0. 4.2 tends to stabilize around 80C in push/pull config...but then again, 16 cores, 4+ GHz. It is NOT playing well with this setup, array is corrupted; I'm ordering some Intel stuff to replace it. I have backups, but this combined with broken pass-through (the whole reason I bought it) has driven me mad. I've been patient up to this point, but I'm tired of feeling like a beta tester.
I really, REALLY want to like this build, and I really wanted to support AMD; but this platform is broken outside of a windows environment.
So heads up, once the new parts come in I'll be putting my Threadripper 1950x and AsRock x399 Taichi up for sell.

And that is why I stopped at 4.1ghz. Not worth the hassle even though I have the cooling capacity. I'm hoping ryzen+ clocks better. A 2950x at 4.5+ with some IPC gains would be a gem indeed.Hah! I'm waiting for the 2950X. That one is sure to be a gem. At any rate, my machine booted at 4.4 GHz. I had to up the voltages to 1.475V (bad idea I know, I just wanted to see if it would boot). I ran CPU-Z and got a single core score of 519. I tried to run Cinebench, but the system abruptly shut off. I only have an 850 watt power supply, but I doubt the CPU pulled that much juice. I'm thinking motherboard power delivery. An OC would have frozen or the app would have crashed. Anyways, I went back to 4.1 and discovered that in the brief time I had the chip at that voltage, degradation had hit. Each 100 MHz now requires slightly more voltage then the last. where as 4.2 would need only 1.425V, now it requires 1.45V, 4.1: 1.375V vs 1.35V, 4.0: 1.275V vs 1.225V (!). So I'm done experimenting with this chip for now. Back to 4.1 GHz.

for the ASRock X399 Taichi MotherBoard, did everyone connect both 12 volt connectors to the PSU? Or just the 8 Pin? Hmmm, the docs say please hook it up... My PSU has both cords... I wonder if having them both hooked up will cause any problems?
New build... all 32 threads running full tilt! Enermax keeping it cool at 55C! Impressive! About an hour in now... no crashes, hiccups, weird shit... nothing!

But on a serious note: I used the prepackaged thermal paste that came with the cooler. Thinking about trying Arctic Silver.
I use the 32 threads for WCG or Rosetta@home. I use GPU's for F@H, as the PPD is better. My two threadripper boxes are both running Linux mint 18.3, and they work great ! Both boxes EACH have 2 GTX1080TI FTW3 cards, so thats 4 total. Just from this 4 cards I get 5 million ppd, and not sure on WCG, but they do very well.Threadripper is a beast for sure, with these board could take EPYC chips. a 32 core workstation would be beastly.
